Personal Fitness Program (Week 12)

Date: 18/05/13

Today’s run was a big improvement from the previous run. I felt much more confident running and I felt that my running has greatly improved over time. During this run, I did not feel that tired or exhausted and I was also able to maintain a fast pace throughout my run. I also felt very good during my run, and felt much more confident running for longer distances than I did before. I think that by now my body was grown used to running for around this long, so I am really happy that I cam able to run around 4.5 KM confidently and well. I will try to beat my time of around 24 minutes and 14 seconds for next time, but for now I will continue with my runs and try to continuously improve on my running time, performances and overall run. I do have concerns that I have not been able to go to the gym for a while now since I have less time now, but hopefully I will be able to make up for this in the following weeks by making sure I have a few hours during the week to go to the gym to improve my fitness and stamina.

Running Stats for 18/05/13

Date: 19/05/13

I was very impressed and happy about my run today as I was able to run and beat my time from my run on Sunday the 18th of May. It was a very good run as I was able to keep a very fast but constant pace throughout my run and since I was able to keep my energy levels high. I did not feel too exhausted after the run, and I think that my fitness levels have improved because of this. I also felt that my body was slowly become used to running more frequently. and I would like to challenge myself more next time by running faster and trying to beat my time of 24 Minutes 1 second and maybe reach around 22 minutes or so in the upcoming months. For now I will try to work on my stamina levels by continoing this running program and making sure I keep on having regular runs  every month so that I will be able to improve my stamina levels and overall running speed.

Personal Fitness Program (Week 11)

Date: 12/05/13

This week I was only able to run once as I was feeling sick on Saturday. I wasn’t feeling too good, and decided that it was best for me to stay indoors and rest instead of going out running and maybe worsening my illness. My run the following day was quite a success though as I felt quite good about running. I was able to run without stopping the whole way, and I didn’t become too tired like before. I was also very happy with my time, which was at 25 minutes since I think that I put a lot of effort into my run. I do wish to continue with my regular runs, and maybe catch up with running at least 3 times a week since for a couple weeks I have not been able to run three times each week. For this week, I think I need to work more on my speed rather than my pacing as I have learned to run for a continuous  period of time. I need to begin running faster and at a much faster pace in order to get better times during my runs, and to ensure that I become more fit and allow my stamina to improve. For next week’s run, I will try to run at a much faster pace and try to make sure I get a time of around 23 minutes.

Personal Fitness Program (Week 10)

04/4/13

Todays run was quite an enjoyable run as it was the first run that I was able to successfully complete after suffering my injury. It was a very successful run for me I felt very comfortable with my running and I was satisfied with my pacing. I was also really happy that I was able to run continuously throughout my run. My time was also very satisfactory although it was slower than my previous runs since it was my best time since my injury. I hope to continue my running, and hopefully improve on my time though. I will also try to improve my pacing, and make sure I run at faster throughout all my run.

Running Stats for 4/04/13

06/04/13

I was really happy about my run today as I able to run at my faster than my previous time on two days earlier. I was also very pleased with my running, as I did not become tired or weary too easily while running and felt very good at the end of my run. I was also very happy about my time, but intend on improving it and maybe getting a faster time by one minute or so. Overall I felt my run today was very successful, as I was able to pace myself very well and I was also able to ensure that I didn’t become too tired at the beginning of my run. I must improve on my time, and will try to beat my time of around 23 minutes and 30 seconds, to around 22 minutes or so. I will try to work hard on this goal in hopes that I will also improve my fitness and stamina levels. For next weeks run, I will improve my time by working on my stamina and will try to run at a faster pace. I will also begin going back to the gym to resume my fitness training there as well.

Personal Fitness Program (Week 9)

28/04/13

Sadly, I was only able to run once this week, as I felt that my ankle was still aching and decided against running in fear that I would worsen the injury. So for my only run of the week, I was quite pleased with my performance as I had vastly improved since last weeks run. I still felt that my ankle hurt a bit, but hopefully by next week all my injury would have recovered and I will be able to go running again at my full potential abilities. Even though I tried not to run too fast in order to not hurt my ankle as much, I was still happy with my time as I had much performance than last week. I was really happy to see that I had improved and hope to continue to run, in hope that my injury will soon be over. I have also been very satisfied with my overall fitness levels, as I am now much more comfortable running 4.4 Km, than I was a couple of months ago. I hope to work on my pace next week, and ensure that I keep a fast but steady pace throughout my run, as well as making sure I don’t wear myself out.

Personal Fitness Program (Week 8)

Date: 20/04/13

After around 2 weeks without going running, I resumed my personal fitness program today. I still still slightly injured, but I felt good enough to begin a bit of running. After not having being able to run for a long time, I was expected my time to be slower than before and I was not completely fit. When I begin my run, I felt quite queazy and found the running was quite difficult. After running for a bit however, I became more accustomed to running and became much more comfortable with my running speed and stamina. I was still quite disappointed at my time though, but I did expect my time to be slower from the start as I had not been running for quite a long time.

Running Stats for 20/04/13

Date: 21/04.13

Today’s run was a disappointment compared to my previous runs I have completed over this month. Although I expected that I would not be able to run very well after taking a while off running, I did not expect my fitness and stamina to be that bad. During my run, I felt very bad and sick and after running for only around 10 minutes I felt that I needed to stop as I could not continue running any more. I think that I shouldn’t have rushed myself into running right after an injury to my foot as it might have not been the most intelligent decision to take. I plan to slowly begin running again, but I also want to make sure that I don’t force myself to run too quickly as I need to be slower with my recovery.

Personal Fitness Program (Week 7)

Date: 30/03/13

Unfortunately, my application for recording my run was not able to record any data for my run, but I did feel that it was still a good run for me. I felt very good at the beginning of my run, and was able to maintain a steady pace throughout my run. Although it was quite difficult for me to maintain my pace, I was very happy that I was able to finish my run with amy steady pace. Although I was not able to record any data from my run, I was still happy that I could see a vast development in my run, from the previous weeks runs.

Date: 1/04/13

Today’s run was a good run for me, as I was able to run at a good pace and I was also run a quite a fast pace as well. Not only did I feel very good about running, I was also felt that my body was much more accustomed to running long distances, something that I wouldn’t have said 4 weeks ago. I felt very comfortable during this run, and felt that I could continue running for longer duration of time than before. I also improved on my stamina, as I did not feel very tired throughout my run, and was able to run with the same amount of energy throughout my whole course. However, I think that I must try to improve my speed and fitness in order to improve my running time, as I am still reaching around 23 minutes each time I run this course. I hope to lower this time to around 22 minutes next time I go running, as one of my goals.

Running Stats for 01/04/13

Date: 02/04/13

Today I went to the gym, to improve on my fitness running. It was a good session, as I was able to run 5.02 Km in 30 minutes which I believe is quite an improvement on my fitness. I really wanted to concentrate on trying to conserve energy throughout my run so that I wouldn’t burn out halfway through the run. I think that I was successful in accomplishing this goal, as I did not feel completely tired during my run and I felt that I still had enough energy to continue running even when I reached around 25 minutes. I think that if I keep up the effort in the gym, it will help a lot during my runs, since I would have improved my fitness and my stamina.

Data from the treadmill regarding my run

Personal Fitness Program (Week 6)

Date: 23/03/13

Today I went to the gym, to help improve my stamina a bit more. I think that it was a good training session as I was able to run 5.05 KM in 30 minutes. At the start of my run, I felt quite nauseous and had a slight headache, but I persisted and I felt better when I began running. I think that the greatest weakness I have when I run on the treadmill is my stamina and my pace. I often get very tired when I reach around 18 minutes or so, and need a lot of energy to keep on running. I think that if I constantly run, this will soon disappear as I become more used to running for a longer stretch of time.

The images below show the data that was collected during my run on the treadmill.

Data from the treadmill regarding my run

Date: 24/03/13

Today’s run was not my best run this month as I was quite slow running. It took my around 26 minutes to complete my usual course, which in my eyes is not something that I wanted to achieve. I usually want to aim for around 23 minutes for each of my runs, so seeing that I had 26 minutes was a bit discouraging. I think that I had a slow time because I did not keep a constant pace when I was running, and often would run fast for a few minutes and slower for the next 10 minutes or so. This is a major weakness in my running that I must improve in order to ensure that I can achieve a much faster time. I also think that I need to improve my preparation for running, and stretch more because I often felt that my body was not ready to run as I was often in pain in the beginning of each run.

Running Stats for 24/03/13

Date: 26/03/13

Today was a really good run for me as I was able to run and finish my course in 23 minutes. After having a few runs where I finished at 26 or 27 minutes, I was very glad that I was able to improve on these times. I think that I was much more prepared during this run, as I had stretched and prepared well before I went running. This meant that I was much more energetic and did not feel any pain during my run. I also made sure that I kept a good pace during my run, so that I did not become too tired easily and become weary throughout my run. I was very happy with my run today, and I wish to keep improving my runs like this one, and hopefully work on the weaknesses of my running and stamina.

CAS and Reasoning Assignment

CAS and Reasoning Assignment

Below is an essay which uses elements of reasoning to prove my view that I have addressed the two CAS criteria of  Engaged in issues of global importance and Considered the Ethical implications of your actions, by joining the MUN and Cambodia Service Activity at Yokohama International School.

I have adressed the CAS criteria of Engaged in issues of global importance and Considered the Ethical implications of your actions by joining the school activities of Model United Nations and the Van Der Poel Club. I have ample evidence why I have addressed these CAS criteria points.Model United Nations has helped me engage in world issues while the Cambodia Service Activity has helped me consider ethically implications when taking an action, when trying to help someone who is struggling and facing hardships in life.

Model United Nations is a clear activity that covers the first criteria as MUN deals with issues in the world. Since we deal with world issues such as water shortages and poverty in improvised regions, we are actively engaged in issues of global importance. We also make resolutions to try to solve these problems, and because we are actively engaged in solving this world issue, MUN covers the CAS criteria. Therefore, by being involved in MUN, I am engaged in issues of global importance since we address these kind of issues within the activity. I also go to MUN conferences where I become a delegate of a country and talk with other delegates from different schools about important issues of the world, such as water crisis and lack of sustainable food. We engage in these when we make resolutions and discuss possible answers to these issues. By also going to these conferences, I am also engaging in issues of global importance, and also cover the CAS criteria.

I have also been able to adress the second CAS criteria through my involvement in the Cambodia Service Activity. During this Cambodia Service Activity, I went for a visit to Cambodia and helped build wells and schools there. Many children in Cambodia do not have access to water, and by helping build well, I am ensuring that the children we met did have access to water. This is an example of how I had to consider my ethical implications, as I had a choice whether to help these children or not. I did help them, and this was what I believed was ethically correct to do.  I was also able to show my consideration for the ethical implications of my actions when I was walking around the towns we stayed at in Cambodia. When we visited Siem Riep, many children and poor families  were asking us to buy their goods or give them a bit of money. Since they were poor, and they did not have a lot of things with them, I bought the goods they were selling to help the family in need. Since there appearance made them look and seem poor, by buying their toys or books, I was helping the family in need, afford food or allow them to receive medical assistances for their family members. This is where I thought it was unethically wrong not to give them money, so instead I bought the books and clothes they were selling to give money to go buy something  It shows that I did consider my ethical implications, as I thought it was not ethically right not to buy something from the families. Therefore, by giving them some money I was helping their lives and it was ethically correct to do such a thing.

These are the arguments why I should obtain my CAS approval for these two activities I have been involved within school. Activities such as MUN and the Cambodia Service Activity are clear activities that help me show that I have achieved these two CAS criteria, which is backed by my use reasoning and evidence I have shown.

Personal Fitness Program (Week 5)

Date:16/03/13

Today, I went to the gym to improve my fitness and stamina. i firstly began my training by running for 30 minutes on the treadmill. I was very pleased with my efforts, as I was able to improve my stamina from last week. This time, I was able to run 5.69 KM in 30 minutes instead of 5.6 KM which is quite a large step. I also improved the speed at which I ran, and was able to run at this higher speed for a longer period of time. I was quite satisfied with the slow improvements I have made, and hope to keep up this hard work on the treadmill.

The data from the treadmill regarding my run

Date: 17/03/13

Today I went out for a run during the morning, to make sure I wasn’t tired or weary when I ran. It was quite a good run, although I do think that I could better since I got a longer time than I usually get when I go running. Although I did feel tired during this run, it was much better than before and I felt much more prepared to go running. It was quite difficult to begin running, because I had to become accustomed but after running for a couple of minutes, I became more and more used to it. I also tried to keep a constant pace during this run, and I felt that I was quit successful a this since I did not try to slow down during any part of my run. Hopefully, I will continue to run like this so that I can keep increasing my stamina and fitness levels. I hope to improve my time and my average speed for the next time I go running.

Running Stats for 17/03/13

Date: 20/03/13

Sadly, I was not able to go running twice a week this time, as I had a few time constraints which prevented me from running during the weekdays. I hope that next time, I can be ready to run twice and week and make up for this missed running day. Although it has been hard to try to be persistent with my running, sometimes I find it very difficult to find time for my running schedule with homework and other activities to attend to. I will try to ensure that I can run twice a week next time by organising my time more and allotting myself times where I could go running and to the gym more.

Personal Fitness Program (Week 4)

Date: 9/03/13

Today as an addition to my regular Personal Fitness Program, I began going to the gym every week. I hope to go to the gym before I run twice a week, to help me become more fit. During this gym session, I used the treadmill and ran for 30 minutes. I had already been to the gym before last year, so I was quite used to running on the treadmill. It was quite a relief to use the treadmill to improve my stamina, as this is one area that I must improve in my running.

I also worked on improving my lower body strength, and mostly my legs. When I was at the gym, I worked on strengthening my legs using a exercise equipment. I hope by going to the gym on regularly, my running and overall fitness will benfit from this.

Date: 10/03/13

I began this run during the midday of Saturday, and I think this hindered my run immensely. I felt quite tired and exhausted during this run and I think that this was because I was not sufficiently prepared for this. When I began my run, I felt quite energetic but as I went along, I began to feel more and more tired. I think that if I want to run well and with a good stamina, I must learn to continue running throughout my run and not stop halfway through my run. However, during this run, I had to stop periodically as I felt very tried and dizzy during this run, and this might be partly due to not consuming enough fluids and food.

My stats for the run were strange as there seemed to be a problem with the GPS tracking system. Instead of recording my regular distance of running which is around 4.3 Km, it recorded a much longer distance which was a mistake. Therefore, my data for this particular run may not be completely accurate as I hoped it would be.

After returning from school, I immediately went running to calm myself after all the homework that I had to do that week. It was a really helpful that I was running after school since it gave me a long of energy as I was feeling very exhausted after spending all day in school. I had a decent run and although I did not have my best time, I was quite proud of what I achieved on that day. It was quite an enjoyable run, and I did not feel as exhausted as before, like I usually feel when i go running. I think that this was partly due to that fact that I had something to eat and drink before I ran, so I was quite hydrated and energetic. I think that I should always remember to eat something or drink before I go running so that I am more ready to go running and I can improve my stamina in this way.
