My Father
My dad, Masaki Shimomura was born in Toyonaka in Osaka on November 3rd 1959. When he was 8 years old (1967), he moved to Chicago because of my grandpa’s researching in the University of Illinois College of Medicine. He went to Chicago one year after my grandpa had. He came back to Japan in 1969 and lived in Toyonaka until 1976.
He then moved to Nerima, Tokyo, when he was a 2nd year high school student because of my grandpa’s job. He stayed there until he graduated from university, Tokyo Institute of Technology.
Then in 1983, he moved to Michigan to get his master degree in the University of Michigan (U of M). He graduated in 1985.
In 1986, he got a job as a construction company project manager. Because of this job, he moved a lot and learned many languages. First in 1988~1990 he moved from Japan to Portugal. Then in 1990~1992, he moved to Pacific North West (North America and Canada) Seattle and Vancouver. He met my mother in Seattle. Then after marrying my mother in 1993, he and my mom moved to Panama. Then in 1994, he and my mom moved to Hong Kong. In 1996, I was born in Hong Kong. Then in 2003 we moved to back to Japan, and started living in Yokohama.
