Connection Between Galileo and Copernicus (Contribution)

ornate_w_24353_mdhen Copernicus’ theory was first presented to the world, only a few astronomers took interest into it, but  a famous Italian scientist, Galileo Galilei, became devoted to Copernicus’ theory. In the early 17th century, Galileo made the telescope, which he is very famous

for, and proved Copernicus’ theory. He proved the theory by stating that he saw four moons orbiting Jupiter, which proves that the not everything is orbiting around the Earth, which was the first proof. The second proof was that he saw phases on Venus, just like the Moon, which meant that the Sun was the stabilized sphere in the center of the Universe or else there would be no phases on Jupiter.

ornate_e_24347_mdven though Galileo’s telescope was not trusted at the time, since many people thought that Galileo had drawn or painted the planets into the telescope, the finding was important. When Galileo proved and wrote about his findings, he was declared heretic by the cardinals in Rome in 1513. This was because Catholic teachings back then were based on the idea that the Earth was the center of the Universe. Threatened by torture, Galileo was forced to deny that the Earth moves and that the Sun was the center of the Universe. The Catholic Church did not take back the sentence until Oct. 13th 1992.
