1. What are you most proud of in your semester one results? Why?

I am most proud of my chemistry, geography and math grades because I got high grades for them.
2. Given the comments of your teachers, what do you most need to work on?

I think that most of the teachers basically told me to participate more in class by asking more questions, answering more questions and to improve on my presenting skills in public.

3. How will you work on #2 above?

I could work on the above by talking more and taking more time on trying to present for a project.
4. How do you feel about your Approaches to Learning (ATL) feedback?

I feel that my approaches to learning feedback is overall average. In some subjects I have very good feedback, and in other subjects the feedback is not so good.
5. Review the learning goals you established in Semester One. In what ways have you met them? What remains to be done?

My learning goals were to do better in japanese, to know more in chemistry and to never forget my laptop. For japanese, I think that I am doing as usual. I think I should participate more in class and I should be more organized. For chemistry, I am doing well. I am learning new things all the time. I have approached this by reading the textbook for question given from the teacher. I think to continue learning new things, I have to continue listening in class and researching stuff. I have never forgotten my laptop. I have always brought it to school.

  Goal Setting in Grade 9-10

     Yokohama International School

Step 1: Identifying strengths and areas for improvement

  • Think about your achievement last year in school and in the first few weeks of this school year and make a list of your strengths as well as areas for improvement.
  • List them in the table below.
Strengths:Example: I work well with others

  • Handed homework+ work on time.
  • Concentrated well on my work
Areas for improvement: Example:  I need to pay more attention in class

  • Sleep more
  • Don’t rush
  • Manage time better
  • Take more notes

Step 2: Organizing the information

1.Sleep more.

2.don’t rush.

3.manage time better.

Looking at the table, identify the top 3 strengths and the top 3 areas for improvement.

1.  handed homework on time.

2. worked well with others.

3. concentrated well on homework.

Step 3: Identifying my goals

Over the next semester, I want to …. (Insert goal here)

—  Aim for three achievable goals over the next semester.

—  Be very specific in your goals.  Do not state, “I want to do better” or “I want better grades”.

—  Be specific about what you would like to improve.  For example, “I would like to improve my understanding of the concept of change in Humanities or “I would like to learn 100 new words in French.”

Goal #1:

Over the next semester, I want to ….

Do better in Japanese class.

Goal #2:

Over the next semester, I want to ….

Know more about Chemistry.

Goal #3:

Over the next semester, I want to ….

Never forget my laptop.

Step 4: Developing strategies to achieve my goals and ways of measuring them to know if I have achieved them.  For example:

Goal# 1:  Over the next semester, I want be less distracted by my computer.

To achieve this goal I will … (these are my strategies)

  1. Make eye contact with the person who is speaking
  2. Close the computer down even if the teacher hasn’t told me to do so because I know that I listen better that way
  3. Never have anything open which the teacher hasn’t asked me to open

I will know I have reached my goal when…

  • These are how I will measure whether I have achieved it
  • See Y Chart on PPT slide to help you

 Step 4: Developing strategies

Goal # 1: To achieve this goal I will…

Step 1

Speak more

 Step 2

Try to understand more

 Step 3

Write better

I will know that I have reached my goal when . . .

 It feels like…

I’m a native speaker in Japanese.

It sounds like…

It looks like….

I’m better at Japanese.

Goal # 2: To achieve this goal I will…

Step 1

Study more

 Step 2

 Step 3

Listen in class more.

I will know that I have reached my goal when . . .

It feels like…

 It sounds like…

I can answer all chemistry answers.

It looks like….

I can complete the exams well.

Goal # 3: To achieve this goal I will…

Step 1

Check every morning that it’s in my bag.

Step 2

Put it in my bag after I use it every night.

Step 3

I am going to charge it when it needs battery so I can use it the next day.

I will know that I have reached my goal when . . .

It feels like…

I can survive 9th grade.

It sounds like…

I can succeed when I try.

It looks like….

I’m organized.
