Science- Helmet Questions
a) How helmets reduce harm when the head is hit during accidents (hint: momentum)
The helmet reduces force because the helmets help disturb the force over a large area and slows down the impact. It reduces the force applied to a single area, however, the overall force applied is still the same. The helmet helps the force applied to head to even out the force that was applied. The mass is slightly increased by the helmet, but does not make up for the distribution of force and slower acceleration (deceleration).
b) Whether or not the government should mandate safety measures.
They should because it does help reduce the amount of injuries. If would be better to take the chance to reduce the injury before it may lead to death. As you can see in the graph, as the law was applied it reduce the injuries.

♡ Art: Painting Project Reflection ♡
For this painting unit, we first started of by looking at artists work and techniques. The artist I concentrated on was Aleksandr Kosenkov. I was inspired to use his techniques to my artwork, which was using variety of colors and different tones fo colors to once specific part of the artwork. I tested this in my practice ones, and decided to add them to my final artwork. I decided to paint a photo of a ocean with some mountains, trees, and houses in the foreground.
You can see how I used these techniques in my ocean, as I added some green, white, different tomes of blue and yellow into the ocean. I added some purple, blue, white, to the end of the ocean, to create some depth and to make it blend with the ocean. I also added different colors such as, red, brown, black, purple, blue, to create the brownish redish mountain located at the back. I think researching about artists helped me extend my knowledge throughout my artistic skills.
The difficulties I had while creating my artwork would be, getting the end of my ocean right. I had difficulties with this because sometimes I would have too much colors and and they would not be blended. This caused me some problems because it made it seem like it was not a whole set of ocean and it would seem like the ocean (blue parts) was going on top of the white parts (the end of the ocean). I tried to overcome them by creating different patterns to the the end of the ocean, but I finally go it right when I looked more closely to the original photo and made it more like it. I also blended and added less white parts in order to make it look more natural.
My strength would be the variety of colors I used for the ocean and the mountain, and the texture I created for the sky. I think I got an better understanding of how to use colors to create darkness (by mixing, etc.) and how to use variety of colors to make the painting have more of your style (making it unique). I think I improved on painting more realistically. This also brings us back to the colors, but the colors helped me a lot to make the drawing more realistic and deep. Although there are strength I also had weaknesses. My weakness was trying to balance my drawing as sometimes my ocean would look too overwhelming and as I was not sure how to balance the the house on the top right corner. Since most of the colors (besides the house) were all similar, I needed to find a color that would balance all of the painting and I feel like I could have done a better job at finding a better color for the house.
To further develop and improve my artistic process, I would research about the topic and artists who are famous for that type of art, as this helped me with the art I have done for this project. I would also try to find techniques that I could use for the project as this can also help improve and take your art skills to another level, throughout your working process.

Pastel Project Reflection
For my last pastel composition, I decided to draw a photo which contained a temple in the foreground and a colorful fall season colored leafs and trees in the background. To create this piece, we needed to chose a pastel between soft and oil pastel. To know which one to chose, we first researched about their structure and what techniques we can use with them. Soft pastels are very smooth and soft. When you draw with soft pastels, it is very easy to smudge it and blend it. Unlike soft pastels, oil pastels create dense artwork, although they are harder to blend. As I tested them out, during our practice work time, I came to the conclusion to use the oil pastel, since it helped me create clear strokes, showed clear techniques, which I wanted in order to show different trees in the background, and also because it was easier for me to use techniques which was found during research (such as, linear strokes, dots, blending with your fingers or creating layers to blend, changing the pressure you put in the pastel).
While creating this art work, I ran into some difficulties, such as the pastel crumbs, drawing trees, and drawing the background. As I was working through the art work, I realized that some of the pastel crumbs (crumbs that comes out of pastels after you press it against the paper) was pressed into the drawing. Big crumbs and small crumbs was compressed into the drawing and it took away some time from me to peel them off. I tried overcome this problem by trashing the crumbs more frequently. Another problem I had with my drawing was my tree. I drew a tree in the middle of the background and I found it difficult to draw this because it would always look too perfect, too round, or the colors needed to be more rough and mixed. I tried to overcome this by looking at my whole artwork from a far, so I would know how to balance out the tree to fot the background. The last problem I had while working through this project was drawing the background. It took me a lot of time to do the background because it had variety of colors and a lot of different trees. I overcame this difficulty I had by taking some time to come after school or taking it home to finish it and also by looking up even more techniques so I can use it to create variations of different trees.
3. What are the strengths and weaknesses in your work? What do you think you have learnt or improved on? Provide specific examples.
Looking at my finished pastel drawing, I came to the conclusion that my strengths were using different colors to create details (also, colors to balance the drawing) and being able to use different techniques. I believe this is my strength because as you can see in my temple, I used variety of colors, such as purple, dark brown, light brown, orange, light yellow, dark yellow, peach, skin color to create the details I needed to draw the temple. I also saw my color strength in my background, as I was able to bring out and show the ‘fall season’ theme. My weakness was definitely the tree in the center. It took my a lot of time to get the tree right because some parts would always look odd. Even though, weaknesses are something your usually not proud of, I believe that from this I learnt to take my time so I would know what techniques I should use to create the tree and also to take time to practice your difficulties so then you would be able to get it right. That would be something I could improve on for my further artistic process.
Overall, to improve my further artistic processes, I learnt that I should manage my time more properly, as I found myself rushing through the art work and to search even deeper, to find more techniques to use for my drawing. I found it very important to plan everything out, because then you would know what you should take time on and what you should practice on, so you would get it right. For my next art project, I would like to use what I have learnt to take my artistic skills to the next level.
Lacrosse
Similarities between Lacrosse and another invasion game
• Both lacrosse and ice hockey games last 60 minutes. A hockey game is a game of three 20-minute periods, where a lacrosse game is divided into four 15-minute periods.
•Hockey and Lacrosse games begin with a face-off. The referee will drop the game ball and when one of the players gets the ball begin the game begins.
•All men’s lacrosse players wear gloves to protect their hands and helmets to protect their heads just like the hockey, where they where them for the same purposes.
Volleyball assignment
In volleyball, there are 6 different positions you can play in the game.Three positions are located at the back of your court and the other three positions are found in front of your court (near the net).

The 3 front players are all hitters, people who spike the ball, but usually the player who is in-between the two front player, becomes a setter to set a ball for the others to hit. The side hitters are usually called the ‘outside hitter’, ‘back hitter’, or ‘right or left hitter’. The middle hitters are usually called a ‘center hitter’. They also have to block (go up to the net and jump with your hands up) the other teams ball, if they are spiking. The 3 back players are positioned to bump the ball nice and smooth to the setter, so they would be able to set a nice high ball, for the hitters. They are also required to try and get the ‘trouble ball’, which is the ball that got bumped once, but went out of position. The middle back does the role of ‘tip cover’. Tip cover is when you bump the ball that the blockers have failed to block or to bump the ball that the other team has tipped.
Whoever is in the right back position always serves the ball, to start the game.
Looking at my playing ability, I think I would be a good back row player because during some practices, I was able to get ‘trouble balls’ and was able to bump it back so we would still have the chance to win the point.
I can also spike, so I could also play in the front row, but I would be the outside hitter, since I am not the tall to be a center hitter.
I also may be able to be a setter, but since i am not that tall, I would take position in being the back row setter.

Book Trailer
The youtube link at the bottom of this is a trailer a made for Sophie Kinsella‘s novel, “Remember Me?“. The novel is about a woman named, Lexi Smart, who got into an accident and lost 3 years of her memory. After her recovery, she realized how much everything has changed. Her new beautiful body, her new job, and her perfect husband, she doesn’t even know. Do you know what else she found out? She found out that she was having an affair and that man might be her true love… Will she ever remember about her past? Will she remember about her husband or about her true love?
This is my shelfari. This is just a shelf of books I am planning to read. Even though, I did not read these books yet, I would recommend the books because reading from the summary, all of them seems like a fantastic book to read.
Observational Drawing Project: Art reflection
For the observational drawing project, I decided to draw a drawer angled from bottom right. Even though, this was a hard photo to draw with different tones and drawer placed in different places, i decided to draw this to show my improvement on proportion and measurement, since that was my weakness for this unit (as you can see on my practice drawings).
Field Studies
For this years field studies, we went to Phuket and we stayed at BIS (British International School). After finishing this amazing trip, we learned a lot about the ecosystems, the environment, and what we could do/ what we did to help (learnt this from the hike, snorkeling, and planting mangroves). We also learned a lot from helping the Burmese Work Camp and working with the orphans. For my first reflection, I want to talk about what I learned about the ecosystems, the environment, and what we could do to help.
From hiking through the rain forest, I learnt about the ecosystem such as how vein goes on trees and uses them to get closer to the sun. Mr. Jones, teacher from BIS, also taught us about natural adaption and bio-diversity. We learned that when we cut down trees we are making a big difference to our environment and to the creatures that live in it. Trees and nature provide a habitat for creatures, provide us clean air and reduce carbon dioxide. So what will happen if we keep on cutting down trees? If we keep on cutting down trees, one day we will end up with no trees, and we will lose our best oxygen source. We will have more carbon dioxide and less clean air. The animals will lose there habitat, and like what Mr. Rossing taught us in our Natural Selection unit, animals cannot change their form to fit their new habitat (quick enough; it will take time) because they are born with what they have, so most of the animals will extinct. Mr. Jones also taught us how we can prevent the world from losing trees. We can always join a community, donate, recycle, participate or do what Mr. Jones did, tell the story. Just by telling what is going on, you can inspire others to make a change. Mr. Jones inspired, us, me, to share this with others so maybe in the future someone or I will make a change and try to make a world a better place.
After we finished the mangrove planting and snorkeling, we made posters about the Food chain. We all made different posters about different food chains and I made one about the coral reef. Coral reef food chain goes like this: The coral reef gets energy from the sun (photosynthesis), and the fishes eat the coral reef and bigger fishes eat the smaller fish. The way it works is easy, but the process is being harmed and the death of the coral reefs has increased. The cause of the harm and death is because of us. Many tourists loves to come here, to see the beautiful ocean, but when they do, tourists sometimes feed the fishes (human food) or throw their waste out in the sea, which causes to ruin the sea and changes the diets of the fishes. Just because of our mistakes, a lot of the reefs has been damaged and dead. When we lose coral reef, not only the fishes lose there natural food, but loses its shelter. When they lose there shelter, it will be hard for them to hide from predators and to hide there eggs. If the fishes can’t hide, the predators will eat them all, and one day they won’t have anymore little fishes and the bigger fishes will starve to death. Just by harming one of the livings from a food chain, can harm the whole living. The way to prevent this is like the way we can help the trees.
Helping the Burmese Work Camp and working with the orphans was one of the great experience we experienced in this trip. We learned how to communicate with people who speak different language, even when we went mangrove planting. We gestured the movements and when we wanted to teach the children from the orphanage, we did an example. I found it interesting when we tried to understand each other who speak different language.
Helping the Burmese Work Camp create school, probably made all of us really happy because we were being part of helping children get education. From this, it also made us reflect on ourselves, how lucky we are to be able to educate in a school like ours.
After this, we went to a village to hang out gifts. This village seem to be facing poverty and we noticed that by the difference between the houses that are built here and the houses that are build around the main road. When we were handing out the gifts, some of us communicated with children and the parents about which gift they wanted and some of us even made a hang shake with them! Seeing the children smile was the best thing that happened during field studies for me. The smile on their faces was so astonishing, it made me cry. It made me really happy to give joy to the children.
Overall, it was an amazing experience and I do not know how it can be better than how it was. I really wish we can go back next year.
The activities and how we cooperated with the people that live there was just so indescribable and I think that this will be those breathtaking memories that stay in your mind, forever.
Health, Fitness and Wellness Assessment Task
Health and Fitness
Health and Fitness is when you are able to eat well, to be able to do sports for a long period of time (to be able to keep on going), and to sleep enough. To be healthy, you need to balance these out; eat, sleep & move (sports). Being fit means, you can do sports without stopping much or to be able to do it for a long period of time.
Components that can make you fit are:
• Flexibility
• Body composition
Balance between different parts of your body
Agility: The ability to rapidly and accurately change the direction of the whole body in space.
Balance: To be able maintain balance while stationary or moving.
Coordination: To use the senses and body parts in order to perform motor tasks smoothly and accurately.
Power: The amount of force a muscle can exert.
Reaction Time: The ability to respond quickly to move.
Speed: The amount of time it takes your body to perform a specific tasks.
What is the difference?
The difference between the components of Fitness and the components of skill related fitness are that components of Fitness is how you can use these components to check how fit you are. The components of skill related fitness are the skills you need to be fit. Components of Fitness are different ways to be fit and components of skill related fitness is what you need to achieve those fitness components.
How do athletes analyse their fitness levels?
| Level 8/9/10 | My Cardio Vascular Endurance is strong I run very often and do not get tired. I am very motivated to do CV fitness during the week at least 4 times. I feel very strong in my chosen sports from a CV perspective. I feel great after I run I think I would score very highly on a CV endurance test. My Vo2 max is above 40 |
| Level 6/7 | My CV endurance is good. I run regularly outside of school. I am usually motivated to run and feel good afterwards. When it starts to hurt, I dig in deep and find that extra stamina to keep going. My Vo2 max is above 30 |
| Level 4/5 | My CV endurance could be better. I can run for a small distance without getting tired but then want to stop. Maybe my motivation drops or my heart hurts and I get out of breath. I don’t really do much for my CV endurance fitness outside of school. My Vo2 max is above 20 |
| Level 1/2/3 | My CV endurance is not very good. I get out of breath easily. My heart hurts, my head hurts and I get dizzy. My body struggles to cope with the demands placed upon me. I feel very bad after doing CV endurance exercise. My Vo2 max is below 20 |
12mins run- P.E
For this 12 mins run, i got average. I think i did well, but i felt like i could do more since i started to feel sick after a couple of miles because of the meal i ate. After the last run, I pushed myself to keep on running, but i did stop, so i would like to work on that.
