Why does the world play?

1. Create your own definition of Internationalism (small paragraph).
Internationalism is becoming one community. People from lots of other countries world wide come together through sports and events to learn other country’s culture, religion and their tradition. This explains my life in an International School too. I go to an International School where students from different countries come together and create a community. Parents send us to this school because it’s a good opportunity to respect and learn about other country for example,  about racism.
2. Create your own definition of Sporting Spirit (small paragraph).
There are lots of sporting spirit within any games and sports. By having and playing the unit about international games, I knew a lot about sporting spirit. Sporting Spirit can have these: Playing fair, caring, respecting and supporting others. In “tour de france”,  a bicycle race, if a person who is leading the race at the front falls or get injured, rest of the people following stops for the person until the person gets up. Also in rugby, the players might play rough but they respect their referee by calling them “Sir”. Another example of sporting spirit is in soccer. It’s when a player takes out the ball to the side when a player gets injured or tackled on the other team. By this even it was that team’s foul, they can give it to the other team giving them a message of thank you. There was a bad spirit today when the egypt soccer team lost and where the audiences charged through the fields killing people. I think that’s not a good spirit for their country.
3. What role do you think sport plays in building internationalism and spirit (small paragraph)?
It helps building internationalism.  World being in one same community can build this up by coming together to play a sport such as tournaments which can build a chance for people to learn other countries culture, religion and to respect and understand countries. Sports can also help to build up spirit. In every sports, there might be some mistake that players can have or a player getting injured. But what you can do is to support them by cheering or helping them get up. This is an example of a sprinter from a country called “Tuvalu” from a small country in South Pacific nation of America who had a little time to practice sprinting 100 meters. For people public, this might have been funny but in the situation at the stadium, people were cheering until the end. This can bring up sporting spirit.

4. With internationalism and sporting spirit in mind , what are some more benefits of the world coming together
through sport?
There can be lots of benefits of money that comes to the country having Olympics by lots of people visiting the country. We might use money to repair and to show good examples and culture to other countries but we can earn more when people can visit even after the events because the country showed a good culture. In my country in winter break there were lots of construction going on for the winter olympics in Korea in 2018. Also by playing other countries there are lots of strategies and rules that you can earn by playing each other.
5. Describe an example (and show it if you like) that you have found of an international sporting event where internationalism / spirit was evident.
I found an example of a sporting event that spirit was evident. This is a video about a cricket player who hit her first home run with two runners. But it appeared to be a short term of her dream when she missed first base, started to go back to tag but end up collapsing injured her knees. She tried her best to crawl to first base but couldn’t move no more. The umpire said she would be called out if the teammates helped her. And also she would be called in but the score will count as 1. Trashing the dream of the opponent that the could win, they helped out the runner by holding her and go around the bases so that it could count as 3 runs. When she reached the final base, everybody were in tears. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yaXVk5GBx-s&feature=related
6. Do you think internationalism/spirit is the main reason why people watch sport? Why why not?
I think it’s yes and no. Most of the people watch sports as an entertainment to have fun enjoying and cheering their favorite teams. But sometimes people watch sport to think of internationalism and spirit to see the two countries interact.
7. Millions of dollars are spent on international sporting events. Do you think it is wise for a country to spend this amount of money on sport? Why why not?
I think it’s a good and a wise decision to spend a massive money for sporting events. Even though we might not get or earn money from events, but there can be benefits on when if we can show a good example of our country for the visitors, they might come even after the game leaving good memories of the country. Also by this, the country can have a better culture by having better machines than they did before the events by setting up a good example of the culture.
8. Concluding paragraph: Why does the world play?
There are lots of reasons that the world play. The world played to interest with other countries by learning their cultures and tradition but they also have these events to have better economy of the country from visitor who comes to watch the game. By this, players can learn new rules and strategies from the opponent and use it to fight off and win.  Also there is a movie called “Invictus” where racism were everywhere and Nelson Mandela trying to bring whites and blacks together by rugby and try to make them interact together. Like this it’s good to understand other country’s cultures and religion.
9. Complete the A, C and D reflections (Give yourself a level plus one or two sentences explaining why)
Criterion A: I want to give myself a 7 because I understood and learned a good knowledge about internationalism, culture and sporting spirit and also explained and showed my knowledge in theses questions with a deep description.
Criterion C: I would like to give myself 7, because I think I did good on making space. But my kicking and the passing skills wasn’t good since the beginning of the unit. Though I have improved a lot. I am highly developed in ball handling but want to work harder in skills. I would like to be more aggressive too.
Criterion D: I would like to give myself 7 again because I think I was pretty good at attitudes and enthusiasm.
