These are the pictures of my collage. In this unit we are making a collage of our last line drawing. We are allowed to change color of each thing. I chose to make black to white and white to black, I think this will be challenging but I will try.

In this unit of “making a mark”, line drawing, I have completed a line drawing of Himeji Castle at the background, the Ishigaki (Japanese stone wall). Our unit question was “How can we communicate visually?” and our significant concept was “line can be used to convey shape, texture and tone.”
I had huge confidence when I finished this drawing, but I think there are a lotos improvements for me to make with my art skills. As shown, I think that this part of the trees does not show the difference of the tone. I think that if I showed the tone a little bit more, like the other part shown, I think that it would be able to predict easier that there are different trees and not the same tree. Also, I think that the shape of the tree is not that tree like. I think that the shape of the tree is too mixed up. Next time I would want to improve the shape of the trees, and the difference of the tone of the tree.
I started off drawing the background first. I only used the picture of Himeji Castle as a reference. I think that I succeeded in drawing the background even though I only used the picture as a reference. I think that I was lucky enough to succeed with the background with only the photo as a reference. Because when I used the Van Gogh line drawing as one of my references for my mid-ground and fore ground I was able to get a better idea of drawing the picture. When I started to draw my mid-ground it was way easier drawing for me. I was able to get a better idea of which line drawing techniques I should use for that particular part. Also, what helped me in helping me draw my art was, blur my eyes or looking it from further. I think that stopping for one moment and looking at the picture blurred was really important for me to successfully complete this project. I think that made me realize which parts I had to make it darker or which kind of overlapping line techniques I should use.
If I had another chance drawing line drawing I would use some strategies that were effective in drawing this picture. One of the effective strategies was, not drawing the line in the same way as the object or side next to it. This helped me by, even though you are not drawing the outline of the object, the person who is looking at the drawing can know the difference. I think by using this technique it looks more natural. Also, another technique that really helped me was, changing the tone naturally. I think changing the tone little by little it looks more object like.
This project was really enjoyable and fun for me. If I had another chance of doing this, I would want to challenge with a different colored marker, and see what will happen. Also, I think to make a better drawing I have to become better at choosing the best type of line that will mach with the object.
This is my plan for my next art work.
Background: Himeji Castle
Mid ground: Wall
Fore ground: Trees, pond
Where: Himeji Castle
Season: Spring
Time: morning
smell: Trees
mold
Things to add and take off from the picture: Add Lake, clouds, guards at the lake
Take off a little bit of the cloud,
Firstly, this is the pictures that I am going to draw. I am going to contrast these pictures and make one interesting picture.
This is my rough plan

My group that gave me feedback was 17tanakak, and 17miyamuram.
The feedback that I got was that I needed to work better on the mountain. They said that the lines on the mountains were too unclear. I think that I have to work on lines that mix together.

I found doing this journal fun and hard at the same time. I was able to have a fun time expressing my ideas on a blank page. I was also able to choose the subject from what happened that day so I was able to get freedom to draw. I also had to think how to mix the happenings. For example in page 7 it was really fun mixing the bike and the raft. But also when there are fun things there were hard things. One of the hard art work for me was the summary page. I had a hard time of thinking how to mix the things we had done within the 5days. Then I was now able to think and express the things with each color expressing it. I think that through this art journal no I know my strengths and weaknesses on doing an art journal. I think my strengths were I was able to express the feeling of the image with a color. And I also had a weakness. I think my weakness is I get scared of mistakes within drawing the body of the picture. I always drew with a pencil and the pencil made the art work look so complicating. I think I should think more simple.
Now I am finished with my second last project, making a stamp and making connecting and positive and negative patterns. I made a design that would make a leaf at the middle, and I imagined when it falls on the pond the water makes little waves.
I used some negative and positive space, and created a design. In my stamp I used a lot of curved lines more than strait lines. I thought of the leaf thing, because I thought that it would look more calm and the colors could be really colorful. I was a little stupid that I forgot to think about the balance of the leaf. So when I finished and was able to connect all the parts, the line started at the same place, but the balance was really bad, and it does not look like a leaf until you really know that it is a leaf, it is like, “oh I see” kind of thing.
In this project as I said, it was difficult because there were things that I could not notice until I got the finished work. I think I had my best work in my mind but not in real life. It was difficult because I had to imagine how it looked, about the connecting part. Also in this project I had another difficulty. It was making the design. It sounds easy to make a design, but it was hard. I had to fill in most of the spaces, and have some patterns too. At first I did not really have a good idea, until I got my leaf idea.
I think that I had improved on my carving skills and making patterns skills. I think that my carving was quite good in this project. I think I had carved the stamp clearly and was same as my original design. I used the way Mr. Mural told us, making the carving utensil parallel to the stamp, and then I was able to make a clear line. Also, in this project I was able to make a good design that include, various types of lines. I was able to mix curved and strait lines. I think that by mixing these 2 types of lines I was able to make positive and negative spaces.
If I had to repeat this project I will, think of balance more and look at my design as one, and not as separate peaces. And I will add, one more main thing in the middle of each design.
