PE Assessment Why does the world play?

1. Create your own definition of Internationalism (small paragraph).

Internationalism is a thing that two nations come together and collaborate. Also Internationalism makes nations, forget that they are different nations. I think that internationalism is a huge power. It can connect two nations, that are far apart in one moment.

2. Create your own definition of Sporting Spirit (small paragraph).

Sporting spirit is a spirit shown during sports. It is a spirit to respect the opponents, referee, and fans. It is a spirit that gentlemen have. Sporting spirit is something to be proud of as a person and as a person playing sport.

3. What role do you think sport plays in building internationalism and spirit (small paragraph)?

I think that sport connects nations by giving excitement. By sharing the same excitement that sport gives I think that it is able to connect nations. Also sport builds spirit by all of the people who play the sport is able to give respect to the other people who connect with the sport. I think that this is really a important role that sport plays. Also I think that excitement leads to sporting spirit, and the same thing from sporting spirit.

4. With internationalism and sporting spirit in mind , what are some more benefits of the world coming together through sport?

There are a lot of benefits of the world coming together and playing a sport. One of the benefits that the world playing together is that countries can get other ideas of tactics. By the world getting ideas from other countries the level of the sport will become higher and higher. For another example from the attractiveness of the sport a lot of people would come to watch. By a lot of people coming, the side who prepared for the sport would gain a lot of money. And also by a lot of people coming to one place, sponsors would think that it would be one of the best spots to advertise, and the side who prepared the event would gain more amounts of money. And lastly I think that the world comes together and play sports because, it would be one moment where the world comes together. I think this is really important because I think there needs to be some kind of moment that the world thinks or feels the same thing, excitement.

5. Describe an example (and show it if you like) that you have found of an international sporting event where internationalism / spirit was evident.

This video shows the fans doing a standing ovation to one player called Ballack. Ballack is playing for a team in Germany, his home country, called Bayer 04 Leverkusen. He used to play in a team in England called Chelsea. The 2 teams played in a match called the UEFA champions league. When Ballack was changing with another player, the fans of both teams did a standing ovation, and showed respect to Ballack. I think that this shows internationalism because even though Germany and England is at the same continent, I think that these 2 countries do not really respect each others favorite sport. I think that this shows how sport could connect 2 countries.

6. Do you think internationalism/spirit is the main reason why people watch sport? Why why not?

I think that sporting spirit is not the main reason why people watch sports. But also, I think that sporting spirit is one of the reasons why people watch sport. But I think that the main reasons why people watch sport is because people want excitement, and another reason why people watch sport is sport is more than something. I think that sport gives excitement, because sport is unpredictable. There is always something in your mind, “something might happen”. This feeling makes sport one of the best things to watch. Also I think that sport is something that it can not be explained. I think sport is something more than a game.

7. Millions of dollars are spent on international sporting events. Do you think it is wise for a country to spend this amount of money on sport? Why why not?

I think that it is wise that the countries spend money on sporting events. For example, the soccer FIFA world cup is prepared with a lot of money, but is really worth it. For example the last world cup held at South Africa made a huge influence to the country itself and the perspective toward soccer. Before the FIFA world cup South Africa was a dangerous country and also they weren’t so much into soccer. But after the FIFA world cup throughout the money the country got from tourism the economy, I think that it became safer for people to visit. Also by fans seeing the world cup, soccer is now more popular sport at South Africa.

8. Concluding paragraph:Why does the world play?

There a lot of reasons why the world plays. Throughout playing sports the level of the sport would be higher and higher and would become more and more entertaining. By a sport becoming a higher level new tactics would come out, and would make it watch sport fun at any generation. Also another reason why the world plays sport is because a lot of money will be put into sporting events. But I think the main reason that people play sport is because it is fun.

9. Complete the A, C and D reflections (Give yourself a level plus one or two sentences explaining why)

Criterion A
I would give my self a 7. I think that I understand Internationalism and sporting spirit well.

Criterion D
I would give my self a 7 again. I think that I have a great attitude, but I sometimes get selfish when playing.

Criterion C
I think I would give myself a 9. I think my handball and my kicking skills at are a good level, but my moving skills are not good as much. I think I sometimes get lazy.

P.E Cross Country

Hello, this time I am going to talk about cross country at school. We run around Negishi Park that is 2.8 km. It is a really good challenge for me of being faster and getting better in soccer and make my strength, running. I am starting to get faster and faster through more practice. This is my time in Cross Country running:

  1. Oct.3rd         10:53
  2. Oct. 6th        10:28
  3. Oct. 11th      10:30
  4. Oct. 13th      10:24
  5. Oct. 17th      10:41
  6. Oct. 31st      10:35
  7. Race             10:09
  8. +Runs with the YIS cross country club
  9. +Runs in Yamanakako 1km, 5laps
I was only able to remember some, not all.
Outcome Goal: run under 10 minutes
This goal is really challenging for me because I have never ran near 9:00, I don’t care if I can’t achieve it this year but I would like to achieve it between this year and next year.
Process Goal: My process goal is to run in a faster rhythm. I think that this would make my outcome goal possible and able to do it between next year.
Reflection
Throughout this Cross Country unit I was able to encourage my self and I got my best time that is 10:09. I think I was able to encourage myself by always thinking that there was someone right behind me, and someone in front of me. And at the race I was able to encourage my mental and physically because there really were people in front of me. This had encouraged me a lot. I think there is a huge difference in the mental part of having someone in front of you and running and having no one in front of you. And in this race I did not only have people in front of me I was able to have a close distance between between with the person back of me. I think I had learned that the sport of running, stamina is also important too, but like other sports the mental gives a huge difference in running and time. I also thought that conditions was another big part of running. I was always slow when it was week B’s first PE lesson, which was monday morning. My muscles weren’t woke up at that time so I was not able to run fast. I think that sleeping fast and waking fast could easily affect the run.

I think that I was able to achieve 7.

Cross Country Reflection

APPROACH SELF SCORE
How did you feel you were able to utilize some of the mental strategies such as self talk into your running and understand the importance. (A2) 8/8
How much training we’re you able to do outside of your scheduled PE times? (A3) 8/8
How seriously did you take your goal setting? (D6) 7/8
How do you think you performed during the whole XC unit? (C1) 10/10
I am aware of my strengths and weaknesses in cross country running and I aim to develop this area of learning. (D4/5) 8/8

How did you feel were you able to utilize some of the mental strategies such as self talk into your running and understand the importance?

I think that I was able to go over mental things by not putting my watch on during running. I think that some people are able to keep it up looking at there time and seeing if they are going fast, but for me I think that not putting the watch on would make me faster because I have no idea of what the time is during running so I think that I should go more faster to get a better time. And I had not noticed that after I forgot my watch about in the 4th lesson.  So I think that I was able to utilize some mental strategies by not putting the watch on.

How much training we’re you able to do outside of your scheduled PE times?

I was able to practice running for about 3 times a week. And I ran about 2km each time. So I think that I did a good job of practicing outside of school too.

How seriously did you take your goal setting?

I think that I had not take the goal setting seriously at the start. I was just writing it because Mr. Noon said, but after 2 or 3 lessons I started to notice that goal setting was really important. I started to take goal setting seriously and tried to do it. I have finished my first goal but I was not able to finish my second goal, so I think that next time I should think of goal setting more seriously so I could finish my second goal too(finish under 10:00).

How do you think you performed during the whole XC unit?

I think that every time I was able to run my best at that time. I think that I was able to finish under 10:30 at the race because I had good practices.  But I think that I was able to run under 10:30 at least 1 more time and get a better time at the race.

I am aware of my strengths and weaknesses in cross country running and I aim to develop this area of learning.

I think that my strength is that when somebody is in front of me and they do not pace up I am able to stay with them. I think that my weakness is that I can not speed up whenever nobody is near me. I think that I can fix my weakness by mental, and how I think. So from next time I think that I should start my pace really fast from the start.
