  1. Line Drawing Technique Reflection

    In art this unit we were working on line drawings. This unit was for about 10 weeks. We had to make a line drawing with as many different line techniques that we knew and then we had to mount it. Our art unit question is “how can we communicate visually?”.

    At the beggining of this project we looked at different kinds of line drawings. We looked at two drawings, one from Vincent Van Gogh (Cottage Garden) and the other one from Albert Dürer (The Navity). Check Mr. Curkovic’s page for more detail.We talked about how these line techniques that the artists used makes a good drawing. We also looked at the various line techniques for example stippling, cross hatching, hatching etc. We filled in this paper with a lot of shapes and I had to choose one line technique to make these shapes look 3D. In class we also started to draw a picture from Van Gogh, I chose the drawing Fishing boats on the beach.

    My progress during this unit was that I learned a lot more about line drawing. What I learned about line drawing is how to do the stippling, cross hatching, etc. I also learned how to lay out my image better. In the beginning I found it very hard to lay out my drawing so it looks like a photo that I took. I didn’t use any images for ideas how to draw specific objects in line techniques, that could have helped me with my water. Next time I really want to try and do this so I could see different types of waters and I could choose the line technique that I like.

    My weeknesses in this project is that I have to work on making parts of a picture more realistically by making parts of the picture darker to show were the shadow is. Another part that I need to improve on is not to draw my sand so perfectly straight. Another weakness that I had in this drawing was that I made my water look like a wall so you couldn’t see the distance. To improve this I would like to have fewer waves and big waves up front and tighter and smaller waves at the back. If I work on these three things next time if I do another drawing like this it might turn out better.

    My strength in this unit is the line technique in my dock and also the clouds. I think that I did a good job on these parts because for the clouds it is not like perfectly planted clouds, also I think that made it look really realistically by making the lines closer and further apart so you could see the puffiness of the clouds. For the dock I think that I did a good job because I tried my hardest to draw the wood lines. I found that this was one of the hardest parts of the drawing.

    Overall I think that my drawing turned out very nice and just with the mounting part it was really hard because some of my springs were smaller than the others and also in the end the paper ran out so I used some other paper from my house and it wasn’t as thick so it didn’t really hold up my mounted part. I hope that I will become better at that and make the mounting spings about the same height.

  2. Humanities Project on Child Labour

    In this unit we have been looking at child labour. Child Labour is when children are forced to work in dangerous or non dangerous to earn money for their family. I have learned that this is a very sirious matter because many of these children get killed when working in factories. The children working on the farm are known to have a lot better health and not as many die a day. At the begging of this project we worked in partners and talked about what children do in these factories or farms. We were assigned a job either Doctor, Child Worker, Lead Aturnaty, Loyer, or a Factory owner. I was a Doctor named Harry Smith and my loyer was Aki. We had to make questions and I (the doctor) had to answer them with true information.

    After this stage we went in to groups and decided to be either on the Awarness group or the Action group. I decided to be in the action group. I got in to a group with Marii and Jennifer. We wanted to raise money to spend to the kids that have to do child labour today. We would still need more time to do this. Other people in my class made a Facebook site. Please click.     1. What are Isabelle’s plans for tomorrow?

    She is going to go to Dance.

    2. What day and time of day is it?

    It is Friday and the time of day is mid-day.

    3. Can you name three places where Mathieu suggets they go?

    The three places that Mathieu suggest are to go to a concert and to go to a zoo and lastly to go to the Louvre museum in Paris.

    4. Can you name three things that Isabelle prefers to do?

    The three places that Isabelle want to go to are the eigel tower and the harbor and lastly to go to the Sacré-Coeur.

    5. What do they finally agree to do? What problem remains?

    In the end they decide to go to the Movie theatre and the problem that remains is that the movie that they chose is playing on a different day.

    How would you react to Mathieu and Isabelle’s suggestions for the weekend? Which would you choose to do? Why? Compare your answers with a partner’s.

    I would react to some of them very interested and then other not so interested because some of them are really boring. I would choose to either go to the Eiffel tower, Louvre museum, and to the harbor. I would choose these activities because the Eiffel tower in Paris is one of my top things to visit in my life and I always wanted to go to the Louvre Museum because it is the only museum with the mona Lisa and I also really like the triangle entrance. I would like to go to the harbor because this harbor from the picture looks pretty interesting to me.

     


  4. My Goals, My learner Profile and My Values

    My Goals,

    I want to make sure that during French Class that I will try my best to not get distracted by class mates and concentrate on my work. I also want to make sure that I hand in some homework in on time and not 1 day late or so. I would really want to try to improve on my reflections because that is always were I get a bad grade in. I want to try and work on my goals for the next weeks until the summer break and onwards.

    I want to try and be a thinker in terms of thinking of my actions before I do them and also to think about others before me.

    I would like to try and be more caring of others and try and make everyone around me happy.

  5. Process of my Humanities Work

    What is Your project?

    My Project is to raise and then donate money to child Labour. I am doing this with Jenny and Marii.

    Why did you choose?

    I chose this project because I saw how people in my school had bake sales and raised money to go to Cambodia and make schools. So I decided that I want to do the same but instead of going to the places with child labour I thought that I could send the money to a site that is against child labour and helps these kids to get out of child labour.

    What stage are you at? What do you still need to do?

    We (My group) are at the organizing stage. We still need to plan out which company we are going to send this money to.

    Anything difficult about your project?

    I think that it is going to be difficult to find a company to send the money to.

    Do you think your project will be effective?

    I do think that our project will be effective because all these children are working for money and if we send them some money maybe some kids will stop working and have enough money to buy some food.

  6. Tech Reflection

    1.  Which applications do you think will be best to create a trailer?  Why?

    I think that IMovie and Screenflow will be the easiest applications to use because they seemed to be the easiest applications to use to make a book trailer.

    2.  Which applications do you think will be the least useful for creating a book trailer?  Why?

    I think that Keynote Presentation (Powerpoint) and Finalcut pro will be the least useful applications to use to make a book trailer because for Keynote Presentation (Powerpoint) it seemed like you needed a lot of skills to make a movie and for Finalcut Pro it is not useful because you have to buy it and not many people have Finalcut Pro.

    3.  Do you already feel confident about using the application?  If not how much will you need to learn?

    I am very confident using IMovie because it seemed like the easiest application to use and also I don’t need to learn anything about this application because I learned about it during my test movie.

    4.  Do you think it makes more sense to choose an application and then start designing, or to design your trailer first and then choose an application to make it?  Explain.

    I think that it is makes more sense to choose the application first and then design because then you can see and think about how you are going to use this application and in wich ways.
