In drama this year we had a lot of exciting days. We had the LAMDA (The London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art) exam, at the beginning of the school year we had our improvisation unit, we did dance performances in front of the class, and now we are working on poetry reading.
During these exciting events we nearly never had any classes, because we often had school holidays on Fridays. We also had the big Tohoku earthquake which happened during our drama class. But other then that we had time for all the exciting events.
The challenging bits this year about drama was the LAMDA exam because my English isn’t that good and I had quite a hard time deciding on a topic that I was going to talk about. Thinking about what I was going to write about my topic that I chose was also a challenging bit for me.
I found that the improv unit was the easiest unit to me because during this unit we played some Theater sports games. These games were much fun. The types of games we played were based on drama and helped to improve our drama skills. These games that we played I thought, were easy to play and to understand the rules. Some of the games we played were also games that I knew pretty well like “Grandma’s footsteps”.
During the dance unit I was still in Germany because of the Fukushima / earthquake situation.
The poetry reading we are still doing it at the moment. So I cannot write a refection about it .
That was the end of the year refection and I am looking forward to seventh grade drama lessons. See you next year.
Gene Kelly used his prop (umbrella) really wisely. His rhythm was really good because he did tap dancing and he is really talented at tap dancing. Gene Kelly had tone of different expressions and the most expression I like was when he noticed that he splashed the police. Gene Kelly moved though his space a lot, he used all his space wisely and he made funny moves like him jumping up on a post. I liked Gene Kelly’s “singing in the rain” because it was funny and also serious. I alsoliked it because Jene Kelly is really talented and he is an awesome tap dancer.
Here is the video I am talking about. Gene Kelly’s “singing in the rain”:
My body language for the lamda speech practice my body language was pretty good in compair to other videos of my self. The audibility in my speech was pretty clearly to understand even with the noise in the background. I had to focus on making my speech longer and to not get stage fright or video camera fright the next time.
6C finished their first unit in Drama on improvisation. This has been a great way to start the year. Please see the details of our unit below and go to the Grade 6 page in this blog for more about assessment of the unit. Please view the videos of the our Theatre Sports Event.
Significant Concept: Responding to an external stimulus, one needs to have immediate action where there is a suspension of thought.
Guiding Question: How can I suspend habitual pondering and re-act without thinking?
