Due Date:- Thursday 22nd September 2011

You have found this assignment on the PE Blog. Please copy and past the assignment and rubric into you’re blog. Do the assignment and assess yourself on the rubric. Email me you’re blog when finished… by Thursday the 22nd.

    1. Watch at least one half of a game from the Rugby World Cup (Schedule). Which game(s) did I watch?
    - The game that I watched was the game Japan vs. France on September 10th. France won with 47 to 21.
2 Write a brief introductory paragraph (about 4 sentences) starting with “The aim of Rugby Union is to….”
-The aim of Rugby Union is to be in a good spirt and encourage the team on to make a goal. In rugby there are 3 ways to make a goal. 1. Rugby players kick the oval shaped ball through the H shaped goal poles from a specific spot. If they make a goal by kicking the ball from the specific point the team gets 2 points. 2. If rubgy players run to thier goals and let them selves fall and hit the ball on the ground two times that is called a touch down. If the team makes a touch down the team gets 5 points. 3. If rugby players get to shoot a penalty they get 3 points.
    3. The world cup running at the moment in New Zealand is the game of Rugby Union. Briefly (no more than 4 sentences) describe the difference between Rugby Union and Rugby League.
-The difference between Rugby union and rugby league is that in rugby union is a full contact team sport each of the rugby union team has 15 players on its team. Rugby League is a full contact sport played by two teams with thirteen players on a team. So to sum it all up the difference between Rugby Union and Rugby League is that in the one it is just a team spot but in Rugby league it is a sport played by two teams.
    4. List the teams who have won the RWC in its entire history.
    1987: New Zealand
New Zealand VS France. New Zealand won with 29-9 in 1987.
    1991: Australia
Australia VS England. Australia won with 12-6 in 1991
    1995: South Africa
South Africa VS New Zealand. South Africa won with 15-12 in 1995
    1999: Australia
Austraila VS France. Australia won with 35-12 in 1999
    2003: England
England VS Australien. England won with 20-17 in 2003.
    2007: South Africa
South Africa VS England. South Africa won with 15-6 in 2007
    5. Choose one of the following to explain in detail: Knock on, Offside, Scrum, Line Out or Hooker.
Lineout- When the ball falls to the side of the field a lineout is given to the team that toughed the ball last. The players in the forwards position from each team lines up a meter apart from each other, verticlely from the touchline. The ball is thrown from the touch line down the center of the lines of the forwards players and then the game continues.    I chose the lineout because first of all I want to know a lot abut rugby and what the rules are and how the game acctually works, because the half of the game that I watched I didn’t really get how it worked, so that’s why knowing more about sports will make me better if the teacher asks question in class about one particular sport. I also chose this because it was the first one were I really said yes that’s the one I want to research about.
    6. In brief (no more than 4 sentences), explain where Rugby Union originated and how a pacific island nation came upon it.
William Webb Ellis “invented” by mistake. The sport “Rugby” in England in 1823. He was playing football (soccer) and caught the ball in his hands and started running towards the opposite goal. I think that England’s empire occupied a lot of countries and one of them was Australia they got really interested in rugby so it became the third most popular sport there.
    7. What examples of Internationalism are evident throughout the RWC?
The countries that participate in the RWC can bond and get to know on anothers cultures. Also the “fans” come to the rugby game which are held in one country. The fans meet new people while they are chearing their own country on. Also know you can see the RWC all over the world and their are clubs where you can sit and watch game and bond.
    8. Identify an occasion in the RWC where an opportunity to learn about another culture was evident.
All these different countries that participate in the RWC have their own sort of traditional dance at the beginning of a game. For example the All blacks (australia) has their aborigines song that they dance to.
    9. Give evidence of an occasion in the RWC where two or more communities have come together in good spirit?
Even though the teams are competing with each other they are still play fairly. Even though the team that won will say “nicely played” to the team that lost.
    10. Millions of dollars are spent on this event. Do you think it was money well spent? Yes/No, Why/Why Not
Yes. I think that the money is well spent because whenever there is the rugby world cup in a different country the players not from that country can taste different kinds of food. Also while the rugby players are not playing they can wounder around see how all these people from different countries live. The money that the country spends will come back to them through the guest that buy tickets to see a RWC game and also the guests pay money for the over night stays.
