Presenting Naked Tech Reflection
December 2, 2012 by 17jacobsn
Hey World,
Over the past few weeks in tech we learned about how to present naked. Presenting naked is when you talk about a topic without cue cards or notes. First we were investigating on presenting naked. I learned that there are many types of presentation ways such as pecha kucha, ignite presentations, RSA and TED presentations. For a good presentation you also need to make your presentation very well organized and your slide should be that if the audience looks at your slide that they know exactly what they are talking about. I learned about the 7 steps to building up a presentation (1. Gather your supplies, 2. Write down your thoughts, 3. Arrange your story, 4. Design your story, 5. Put it all together, 6. Create the handout, and 7. Practice makes perfect {Last Step!!!}).
In this unit I had some weaknesses and some strengths. I think that one of my main weaknesses was that in the investigation stage I found it a little hard to realize the main difference between all the different type of way how to present naked pecha kucha, ignite…I think that one of my main strength are to design all the sildes and make them easy to understand.
In conclusion I think if I got to do this project again I would like to memorize my speech a little better and choose a different topic because after doing Photography as my topic is a little hard.

Grade 8 Drama Character Formative
December 1, 2012 by 17jacobsn
In drama we had to get in to pairs and we had to come up with a place (Mc Donalds, etc.). My partner was Katie. Our place that we chose was the hairdesser. I was a kind hyper kind of crazy hair dresser and Katie was the costomer.
What is the skill(s) I used?
During this small time I was think of how a hair dresser would act and what kind of thing you do in a hair saloon like washing the hair, cutting the hair or coloring the hair. I tried fitting all these techniques with a mime kind of thing since we didn’t have any props. Katie and I then put this all together and then we practiced it a few times and then we had to preform.
How did I approach creating the character? Was it successful- if so, how?
I tried really putting myself into a hairdressers shoes and I was tring realy hard to act like a hair dresser. I think that the way I was acting like a hairdresser could have been better when I was inviting Katie to the hair saloon.
What needed improvement? Make a suggestion?
I think what needed improvement is that we could have done the scene a little bit longer and showed very close detail to where we were. Next time we could spend a little more time on practicing and thinking a little more and maybe research a little more on how to preform as a hairdresser. As a suggestion I next I would comunicate a little more and research a little more on hair saloons or hair dressers.
How can I use these skills in performance?
I can use these skills in a performance because then if I do use these skills such as researching a little more on hair dressers. Also I would use these skills because then you can make a more realistically hair dressers.
Here is the preformance of me and Katie:

Japanese Poem (Japa Poem)
November 7, 2012 by 17jacobsn
Hi Guys,
In Japanese class we have been writting japanese poems about ourselves. Here is my final draft of my japanese poem:
Translation of my Poem:
I am kind often
I try to push myself
I am learning Japanese and French
I can speak 3 different languages
I am annoying
I am loud
I am not tall and not short
I get distracted very easily
I have blue green eyes
I am 156m tall
I am from Germany
I have dark brown hair
I don’t like carrots
I don’t like fish
I am terrified of earthquakes
I don’t like hot weather
I like reading books
I like to swim
I like to play volleyball
I like snow
I would like to play the guitar
I would like to go to Hawaii
I would like to go to LA
I would like to play tennis
Rationale:
I think that the hardest part of writing this poem was find good adjectives that best represent me. Also another hard part was that while writing the poem and I didn’t know a word in japanese I had to look it up in the online dictionary but the hard part was finding the correct japanese word when there were more than one to choose from. The easy part on writing this poem was after writing the poem in english translating the english into japanese especially the words that I already know. Next time if I were to do it again I would like to use more advanced volcabulary and more Kanji.
Thank You!!!

French Cafés as social institutions
February 2, 2012 by 17jacobsn
JAMES & NERISSA

Le Café De La Paix
Feburary 2nd 2012
Madamme Maeda
- Historical Background of Café de la Paix?
The Café de la Paix was designed by Charles Garnier and was opened on June 30th, 1862, to serve the Grand-Hôtel de la Paix. In the time when the café was built, Napoleon III wanted to make changes in the whole architecture of Paris. This café is also the setting of a poem “The Absinthe Drinker” written by Robert service.- Names of the famous people who frequented your café.
Jules Massenet, Émilie Zola and Guy de Maupassant all visited the Café de la Paix. During the Belle Époque, visitors to the Café included Sergei Diaghilev, and the Prince of Wales and future King of the United Kingdom, Edward VII.
- The reason or purpose for these people to go to Café de la paix. Did they have a particular activity going on in this café.
The famous people who went to the café de la Paix are artists. Jules Massenet was a French composer, Émilie Zola and Guy de Maupassant they were both writers and also friends. I think they enjoyed being in this café and could relax to get inspired for new ideas.
- Has your café been at the origin of some changes in french society?Has it had any impact on any impact on any aspect of French society?
As I said Napoleon III wanted to make changes in the whole architecture of Paris. He ordered that most of the buildings of Paris should be knocked down. He wanted to build impressive buildings. Before there were wide avenues replaced small curvy roads, and them. In this time when all the changes were made the café de la paix was also build. In this time Paris was very well known by composers, writers or visual artists. These artists liked to come to Paris to meet other artists to exchange ideas. That’s why the French society existed by many artists.
- Is this café playing the same role nowadays and why/why not?
The café was once a very elegant and special place with very nice interiors and frescoed walls. With the time it was very hard to keep up the elegance of the Café. In 2003 café and hotel was completely resorted. Nowadays the hotel only has half the number of rooms.- If you can have access to some figures, would you say that the number of cafés in France is generally increasing or decreasing? How would you explain this trend? What future developments can we foresee? Are there any new types of cafés that you are aware of?
The number of café’s in France is decreasing. In the 1880’s in Paris there were about 45,000 cafés. Nowadays in Paris there are only 7000 cafés left. I think that a lot of cafés are closing because a lot of people nowadays don’t have as much time than before because both the couples and parents are working long hours. I don’t think that all the cafés would shut down. The cafés are still relaxing place for the French people and also for the tourists. A lot more cafés nowadays are changing their look to try and catch younger people and hipper crowds. There are three Starbucks in Paris and this is a very modern and American style.
- French cafés have existed for more than three hundred years. What is it that makes cafés still a popular tradition? Explore several aspects of your café and report on its location, its atmosphere, its menu and prices. From your results, what would you say contributes to making it a popular place?
Cafés are a relaxing and an enjoyable place to drink some coffee or tea, also to meet other people or getting inspired as an artist. The café is located at the “Place de l’Opéra” and it is in the 9th arrondissement. The café is still very famous and the atmosphere is still very luxurious. That’s why the prices are quite high which you can see on the menu. The café is restored and has a nice atmosphere so it is still very popular for the French and also visitors. The terrace is a good place to sit and watch people walking along the street.

Cross Country Unit Homework
November 17, 2011 by 17jacobsn
Here is my table for my times of all my practices and how I felt after the practices.
Date Route Time Feelings 3/10/2011 Negishi (2 laps) 19:28 I felt really exhausted because I always forget how hard it is. 6/10/2011 Negishi (2 laps) 18:51 My foot really hurt because I have a flat foot and I got orthotics (support for my shoe). 8/10/2011 Not PE Negishi (2 Laps) 18:10 I felt really good at the end of the run, but also a little tired. 11/10/2011 Negishi (2 laps) 18:35 My pain in the foot got less but it was still there a little bit. 13/10/2011 Negishi (2 laps) 16:16 Awsome! I ran as fast as I could because I saw how a lot of kids stoped and I told myself “you don’t want to be one of them. Keep going”. 16/10/2011 Not PE Negishi (2 Laps) 17:28 I felt very tired and also proud cause I am trying my best and I run at my own pase no matter how fast others run. 29/10/2011 Not PE Negishi (2 Laps) 19:30 I was a little bit rusty in running because I have not been practicing for two weeks. 31/10/2011 Negishi (2 laps) 18:30 It was very painful today because we had two weeks holiday and I only practiced once. 3/11/2011 Negishi (2 laps) 18:28 I had a lot of pain in my foot. 6/11/2011 Not PE Negishi (2 Laps) 18:24 It went a lot easier then the last two practices. 8/11/2011 Negishi (2 laps) 18:19 I was upset with my time because I tried my hardest but am very far in getting to my outcome goal. 10/11/2011 Negishi (2 laps) 15:15 I am so happy I was number thirty and when I found out what time I got I was even more happier because I beet both of my outcome goals. - Reflections of how you felt during and after the run. Did you feel good, sick. Any injuries? Proud?
The unit cross country has always been one of the hardest P.E units for me. This year I knew what I wanted to do and I set me some goals and tried really hard to achieve my goals. The first run I think is always the hardest run for me. But after I did more and more practices for cross country I found it getting easier. On the real cross country day I felt really nervous and also determined to achieve my goal that I set. I didn’t really have and real big injury’s in this unit except that I once bent my foot the wrong way and that really hurt. When I came in the goal on cross country and looked at my number I was so happy that I came under the first 35 people. I was the number 30. After the run on the cross country day I felt really tired but also very proud of myself of get a good number card. In the next P.E class I found out what time I came in and I was so happy that I beet both of my outcome goals.- Your two goals- Outcome goal- What you wanted to achieve after your first run and your Process goal- how you will get to your outcome. Did you need to reassess them?
Outcome Goal- I would like to run under 16 minutues on the real cross country and also I want to try and come under the top 35 students.Process Goal- Everytime I run I will keep on stopping less and try to talk to myself to keep on going. I will also try to run my hardest in every practice.- Discuss the strategies you used to help you improve your times and meet your goals, for example did you use any psychological techniques such as self talk?Music? Breathing techniques, better shoes. Did you do more practise on your own?
The technique that helped me and motivate me to run faster was that while I was running in the cross country race I was wearing new shoes and I herd all these voices saying “keep going” or “Don’t give up”. Hearing all these voices encouraged me to run faster. But on the cross country practices there are no cheering people except at the very end when I run in for the last meters. But I think that there were some strategies that I found very useful throughout this unit. First I found looking at the ground motivated me to run faster cause when I looked at the ground the ground was moving so fast under my feet that I ran even faster. I also used this technique on some of the hard parts of my real run. The second technique that I used was self-talk. I used self-talk when I really wanted to give up and walk the rest of the way. But when I self talked my self into keep on going it made me run further. Lastly the thrid technique I used was using new shoes. Those shoes were real running shoes and I found them to be more comfortable to run in then my normal day shoes. I think that these were the most powerful techniques that I used. For the first practice race that I did use my IPod to motivate me but it didn’t really work out that well, so I stopped using it.- A visual representation of your times and progress for example a line graph.
- At the end of the unit you need to provide a score out of 8 of how you felt your performance was in the unit.
I am probably going to get a 5 or 6 because I only practiced a few time on my own. Also I think that I cought a little off gard when I answered some questions.Category Uncategorized | Tags: | 1 Comment
