Unit 1: Mime Reflection

What did I explore?

During this unit I explored a new unit called Mime. Mime is a type of performance in the world of theater where you can’t use any objects, talk or speak or make any sounds. In class we learned different techniques such as expressing emotion with your face (facial expression),body language, pretending as if there is an object in your hand or pretending there is a object, posture, and gesture. Also, for this unit we had to do a task where we had to perform in front of class and mime. My group was Jennifer,Yuki,Kento and George. Our assessed mime task was about a crazy and loud person in the library and getting the person out to make a peaceful library.

What did I learn?

I learned that in Mime even though you are not talking or making any sound you can actually tell your feelings or what you are doing. Also, I have learned in class that you can describe well even if you mime your acts if you do the acts in slow motion and in detail for the audience to tell what you are doing. From my teacher, I have learned that 70% of communicating is by  body language which I thought it was very important that I learned.

How can I use this in performance?

I can use Mime for performing something funny or when I want to over-exaggerate and express my feelings. I can use this for funny performances when I want to make someone laugh.

What did I know before?

I knew before that we couldn’t talk or make any noises. Also, I knew that we had to have some way of expressing our feelings to the audience.

What do I want to know?

I want to learn how to make my movements in mime more clear so that the audience can tell what is going on and what I am doing.
