1. Create your own definition of Internationalism (small paragraph).
I think internationalism is a type of act where you show your respect to other countries.  Because if you didn’t show your spirit and making them feel unwelcome, that is not good example of internationalism.  By showing your respect, people will respect you back and consider you as good person to play sport against
2. Create your own definiition of Sporting Spirit (small paragraph).
Sporting Spirit means to show respect to the opponent team’s country.  Showing sporting spirit is normally to shake eachother’s hand after the game, and give complements to eachother.  But, in this video below, it shows good sporting spirit and internationalism.
Ireland and Wales rugby team gave silent tribute for Japan’s 2011 March 11th earthquake.  And also for those unfortunate people who had past away from the tsunami.  And I say that it is a good spirit because maybe they could have just concentrate on winning the game and shaking hands after the tournament.  But, since the game was the next day after the 11th and cared about Japan, they decided to do the silent treatment.  And to be very honest, I am very happy that the country all around the world cared about Japan that much.
3. What role do you think sport plays in building internationalism and spirit (small paragraph)?
I think sports helps build internationalism by encouraging fair play, sportsmenship and consistent ruleplay.  Both teams play by the same rules, which makes it fair and can encourage cooraporation.
4. With internationalism and sporting spirit in mind , what are some more benefits of the world coming together through sport?
Benefits of world coming together through sport is that you get to learn how to respect other country, to play fair and get to know each opponent’s team.  If you show your good sportsmenship and respect the country your rival came from, the rival team will respect you back and play fair.

5. Describe an example (and show it if you like) that you have found of an international sporting event where internationalism / spirit was evident.(obvious)

Opening ceremony parade of nations at the Olympic games are one of the best example of international sportsmenship.  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KfIBT128fNM&feature=related

6. Do you think internationalism/spirit is the main reason why people watch sport? Why why not?

I would say yes.  Because it’s really exciting to see your home country playing against another country, and you feel like you want to cheer and shout out you country’s name.  For me, I would cheer for the U.S.A. whenever I see them compete in the Olympics- I always shout “U.S.A.! U.S.A.!” and go really crazy.

7. Millions of dollars are spent on international sporting events. Do you think it is wise for a country to spend this amount of money on sport? Why or why not?

It’s acceptable because the countries have a chance to make stonger bonds and tighten their friendships.  But, on the other hand, undeveloped countries should use money not for the sports, but for the citizens who is suffering.  The people comes first, then sports.

8. Concluding paragraph:
Why does the world play?

World plays because countries want to get along very well with eachother and get to know, respect eachother’s culture, tradition and rules.  Without sportsmenship, each team from different places would play by their own rules, and might not respect other country’s way of playing the game.  Because the world plays, nowadays, we get to know eachother better, and learn to play the sports game fair.

Also, when other country is in danger, those countries which is playing the tournament will have moment of silence.  When humungous earthquake hit Japan, before sports team would play the game, they would have 1 or 2 minute silent treatment for people who was unfortunate and past away.  And that is also the same for Haiti, and New Zealand’s earthquake.

9. Complete the A, C and D reflections (Give yourself a level plus one or two sentences explaining why)

A:  Probably 6 or 7/8.  Because I did use the word ‘Internationalism’, ‘Culture’ and ‘Spirit’ many times.  And also, I looked throught the videos to show what I was talking about.

C:  6/8.  Because I do respect and try to communicate with my team.  Although, I do show my emotions of frustration and disappointment whenever my team mates doesn’t pass, or kicked the ball to me.  So, I think I should hold my feelings behind and play on.

D:  5 or 6/10.  I don’t do well on hand-balling and space-awareness.  Although, I try to find an open space so that goalie or my team can pass the ball to me.  And whenever I have a chance to get a ball from my team mates, I always try not to let that chance go.  And when I pass the ball to my team, I tend to throw it normally.  I think I should improve on that.

Date                           Route                          Laps               Time          Feelings

6.Oct..11               Negishi park            2                       12.05        My knees hurt a bit, but this is my personal best so far :)  I hope I can keep this up.

11.Oct.11                   Negishi park            2                      12.24        This time, my knee and my thigh’s pain wasn’t a pain I had in past.  It hurt a lot, I couldn’t walk properly.  But, later on, I got better.  I wanted to quit in the middle, but I kept on doing it because I wanted to continue running.

13.Oct.11                    Negishi park            2                       I wasn’t really happy wih my time today.  It wasn’t what I had expected.

1.Nov.11                        Negishi park           2                       My knees was shaking.  I was able to walk, but it pained to walk step by step.

3.Nov.11                       Negishi park          2                       I got beaten by Kate today.  I was happy for her, but I was sad at same time.  Also, my pace slowed down and I got serious cramps on my stomach.  Today was the worst time yet.

8.Nov.11                   Negishi park         2                      Kate and I got in at same time.  It was pretty weird.  I tried my best today.  I thought deeply about my running and breathing.  I realised that Kate is getting stronger and I am getting weaker.  So, this weekend, I would like to practise extra hard.

10.11.11                     Negishi park            2                       11.41         This was my fastest time.  I was so surprised, but proud of my self too.  I am really glad that Ishinomaki students came and visit Y.I.S.  I hope they enjoyed visiting here and partisipating on cross country.

DURING RUNNING:  To be honest, I didn’t feel tired.  I felt very numb as matter a fact.  My legs started to hurt when I was running up the hill on the 1st lap.  Then, that pain got stronger.  But gradually, it started to soothe little by little.  On addition, I didn’t have hard time catching up to my breath.  In practise run, I got heart burn 2 or 3 times in 1 l

ap.  At the 1st lap,  I was the first middle school girl.  Of course that felt great!  I thought I was going to be the first middle school girl.  Although I had that strong feeling in my mind, my body didn’t seem to listen to me.  Finally, the pain bounced back on my joints of my leg.  One of Ishinomaki girl went past me.  To cheer her, I said ‘がんばって下さい’ meaing, ‘Let’s go!’  From that untill the goal, she was first and I was second.  I was amazed how fast she was running.  I ran faster, despite my pain on my back and my weak knee cap.

AFTER RUNNING:  After running 2 laps, my breathing was very fast and my mouth tasted like a metal: which I don’t like.  I congratulated the girl in front of me.  As whole middle school girl, I was 2nd and 1st in 7th grade.  I was blushed when my name got called to get the Gold medal.  I was really proud of myself.  I looked down at medal.  I am complaining, but to be honest… I didn’t really like the design of the medal.  It looked a bit… fake.  Aside from the ‘looks’, t

he Golden medal shined upon my hand.  And that’s what I wanted for this year’s cross country this year too.

WHAT WAS MY STRATEGIES TO IMPROVE MY GOAL?:  I have three starategies.  But, I can tell one strategy I used do improve my time and process goal.  I don’t really want to tell what my 2nd and 3rd strategy is because it’s a secret strategy and I wouldn’t really appreciate it if some one took my ide

a and use it for them selves.  That starategy I can tell you is that I practised every Saturday around the park near by my house.  I would go out and run 8 laps around the park.

OUTCOME GOAL:  My outcome goal was to always be in time of 11 to 13 mintues.  But, it seemed like my goal started to crumble a bit at the 2nd last running practise.  Kate beated me and I was 2nd girl to finish.  On the last run, me and Kate got in the goal at same time.  I decided that I need to dicipline myself and had to push my self even my leg pains.

PROCESSING GOAL:  To reach to my outcome goal, I needed to concentrate on the track and make sure that keep my pace up.  Because if

I stop, I know that my pace will go slower and slower.  Except that even though I stopped, my pace was still the same.  I needed to push my self not to stop.  Now, I think of the way I was running before, I am amazed that I could still be the 1st girl even though I stop and walk.

OUT OF 8…:  I think I would get 6 or 7 out of 8.  Because I know that I did my best and pushed my self even though I didn’t want to run since my knee is weak.  At the same time, I think I won’t get a full, 100% 8/8 score because I wasn’t confident in myself.  I was always worried about my knee and my breathing, especially the knee.  I didn’t want to give more damage to it.  That’s why I think I would get 6/8 or 7/8.

I think this year’s cross country was great!!  I think we really digged into practice except for 1st time…  I think I ran really slow at 1st practice because I didn’t think how much energy we need in order to run whole 2 laps of big park.  Also, I think I couldn’t  ran as fast as I was thinking in my mind.  I really nervous because again, it had been a long while since I had been to this park.

2nd time, we really burned to run.  We ran as if it was real competition.  From there to real competition day, we worked hard, set our goals and making it to our goals.  My goal was to run 2 laps without stopping.  But, I didn’t stop, but instead, I jogged (slowly) and got back my energy.  I was disappointed that I couldn’t keep the goal, but at least I was happy to get a medal.

I really like this year’s cross country.
