Drama Journal entry

Today in Drama class we focussed on attitude, relations and status. We did activities that showed that we either higher or lower status than the other. This could also be known as master servant roll activities. The master servant roll is basically one person is the master, this person has a lot of the control. This persons body language will have very confident parts to it that will be easily visible, such as the persons chest might be sticking out due to their very high confidence. Or this persons voice could be very posh and/or could have a very high statues laugh a very ‘put on’ one.I think this has really influenced me in a big way because, this can influence me in my real life situations. For example when we did the game when we had a job interview, one person was the giving the interview and the people that made up the circle were applying for the job. The things we said and some of the questions that were asked could help us when we actually go for a job interview. That one game in particular is a game that can help us trust each other, and show each other that we can work off each other.

We are now working on a bit of improvisation games for our trip to Phuket, when we face BIS in a few drama games. We have been looking a lot into tension and seeing how tension can be seen in every day life. For example the shock of the unexpected is one of the tensions we learned about, a simple one is being asked to marriage. If you really act as the character you will feel the shock as much as the audience, because that who the tension is for. The audience.  We have also worked on this one activity where Jake had a dagger and he was going to attack Shiho. The rest of us stood in diffrent parts of the room, then we stood as a wall behind Shiho and then Jake did a slow walk to Shiho and went for her. Then we made a horse shoe around Shiho, Jake did the same thing. Finally we made a horse shoe around Shiho and this time we snapped our fingers at the same time and went from slow to fast, as Jake got closer. As a group we decided we felt the most tension in this.We also did a listening exercise, where we partnered up. One of the partner was wearing a blindfold, and the other was giving the other one directions, if we touched an obstacle then we would start again. In my opinion, this gave a bit more trust between us all.

Elevator scene

In Drama we worked on a Elevator scene. The four of us: Touko, Jake, Mitea made a scene with four completely  diffrent characters and turned them into a situation where the elevator breaks down and one of them (me) has a panic attack. That was our situation, that is not what we had to do. When we preformed I think that my weaknesses were that I turned my back to the audience a lot and that I did not keep a straight face and I consider that in my eyes to be fairly bad. However my strengths were that I talked loudly and clearly. If I had to change anything if I did it again it would be that I would change my character to someone that is as matured. I would do this because it seems to be I play these kind of characters beter.

Character Status

In the character status we did in Drama class we had one as a boss and one as a servent. I worked with Rishi we switched roles as a servent and boss and then we used many techniques such as: switching roles, diffrent volume. Fast and slow pace. We then worked on how we will change roles very smoothly. And we did we did it very well. I think my strengths were that I talked loud and clear. I think my weakness was that I always had my back to the audience the whole time

Story telling

In the unit we have just done we performed a folk story called old gwyilm in front of the grade 4 class.

I think I preformed very well because I stayed in character the whole time and when I made the sound effects I think I made the correct ones at the correct times. When I made the accent I think it was a very convincing accent considering I haven’t lived there pretty long so I think I did a pretty good job. I think as a group we did very well we made the crowd laugh and one of the people in our group, Axel, played old Gwylim and one of his lines were: “I’m going to go get so cheese!” We had to wait a minute for the crowd to stop laughing, so that was pretty good.

Some of the difficulties were that it was hard for the crowd to understand why only one person had a welsh accent, the reason we had to do that was because only one of us could do a welsh accent propaly and that was what made us think at one point should we have one person have an accent but then we realized that we should have a vocal technique.

I think the group that was most the most succesfull group was

I think these guys were most successesful because they were funny and they were the most interactive with the kids.

Drama Welsh Folk Story

OLD GWILYM.
Old Gwilym Evans started off one fine morning to walk across the Eagle Hills to a distant town, bent upon buying some cheese. On his way, in a lonely part of the hills, he found a golden guinea, which he quickly put into his pocket.
When he got to the town, instead of buying his provisions, he went into an alehouse, and sat drinking and singing with some sweet- voiced quarrymen until dark, when he thought it was time to go home. Whilst he was drinking, an old woman with a basket came in, and sat beside him, but she left before him. After the parting glass he got up and reeled through the town, quite forgetting to buy his cheese; and as he got amongst the hills they seemed to dance up and down before him, and he seemed to be walking on air. When he got near the lonely spot where he had found the money he heard some sweet music, and a number of fairies crossed his path and began dancing all round him, and then as he looked up he saw some brightly-lighted houses before him on the hill; and he scratched his head, for he never remembered having seen houses thereabouts before. And as he was thinking, and watching the fairies, one came and begged him to come into the house and sit down.
So he followed her in, and found the house was all gold inside it, and brightly lighted, and the fairies were dancing and singing, and they brought him anything he wanted for supper, and then they put him to bed.
Gwilym slept heavily, and when he awoke turned round, for he felt very cold, and his body seemed covered with prickles; so he sat up and rubbed his eyes, and found that he was quite naked and lying in a bunch of gorse.
When he found himself in this plight he hurried home, and told his wife, and she was very angry with him for spending all the money and bringing no cheese home, and then he told her his adventures.
“Oh, you bad man!” she said, “the fairies gave you money and you spent it wrongly, so they were sure to take their revenge.”

Singing in the rain

We watched singing in the rain and it was really interesting because it  Gene Kelly was just expresing his feelings and he always had a smile on his face until the police officer came over and just gave a look that said ” if you dont stop there will be some big trouble. So he gets his guts and sings ” I’m dancing and singing in the rain”. That just blew me away and at the fact that he got scared and then not scared. He used his props well especaly the umbrella during the dancing solo that was when he used his prop the best he was the only one in there and he used the umbrealla in every way. The way he used space was he diddnt care who was around he just used the whole street. His rythum seemed to only during the dancing solo with the dancing solo and there was only only one other rythum but that was the music.

The best part in my opinion was just te dancing and sining combined and then it was tied for my favorite was tap dancing.

End of subject 1 Drama

Summative Task: Improv Theatre Sport
Students will engage in summative Improv Theatre Sport Event. 3 theater sport games will be chosen from 6 theater games practised during the unit. Students are divided in 3 teams. Each student has a sheet with rubric to record the minimum of 2 games joined.
