Does copyright hinder or cultivate creativity?

In my opinion, copyright hinders creativity for producers before/while producing their product, however, cultivates creativity for producers after producing their product. Before/while producing their product, from a producer’s view, they will experience limitations creating their product because of medias they wanted to use were in the fair use policy. However, after they finished creating their product, they will not hope for other pupils using their products without permission much less copying their entire idea. Because of copyright, however, the government protects the producers artifact via copyright, and if someone else takes the idea without permission, they will be arrested (range between a year and three years) or pay a fine (approximately a range between ¥300k and ¥3,000k) for stealing their idea.

8 Technology – Presenting Naked Reflection

Over a couple of months in technology, we have been talking about how we can present nakedly. We started out the unit with creating a simple brochure, without including any words. This activity showed us the basic design cycle when creating a project: Investigate, Design, Plan, Create and Evaluate. Afterwards, we started to investigate/explore the presentation techniques and uses of visuals (image, video) that will provide a significant concept in our summative task. In the Design stage, we were brainstorming ideas for the topics our summative task might be, and different styles to present it, such as TEDx, PechaKucha, RSA or Ignite. In the Plan stage, we planned out our topic for our summative task, while considering the possibilities and the limitations of the styles we chose. We also considered the limitations, regarding the length and the slides of our presentation in this stage. In the Create stage, we created and delivered our own unique presentation. Where is the Evaluate stage then??? It is reflecting back on what we did, and state several improvements per stage, which is this reflection post!

Onto my next-time improvements for each stage. In the investigation, I achieved a 5 out of 6. I personally think this is due to the fact that I didn’t write that much detail in the “7 steps to building a presentation”. I also think this is because I didn’t research considerably for my technology investigation tool “Issuu”. So if there was a second chance to redo this project, I would improve these two tasks.

In the design stage, I should have added more possibilities and limitations per tool, and write a short summary of some comparisons and contrasts between the three. Personally, the second task was the worst due to the fact that I have only written a sentence per question. If there was a second chance, I would explain more in detail.

In my plan stage, I was quite impressed with how I have planned out my presentation. However, on the other hand, I didn’t create a storyboard for it, which I should have done for my first priority.

In the create stage, I didn’t have any facts that I should have improved more, however, I should have written my reflection more, in detail.

Overall, I had some difficulties and improvements for next time in each stage, however, I still have enjoyed the unit of “Presenting Naked”, due to the fact that my presentation was slightly successful. I should have made more eye contacts to the audience, though.

Criteria Reflection

1. How many criteria do you think it is useful to have?  Why?  Can you have too many or too few?
I think all of the criterion are useful. It is because it is all the key to make a great trailer. I can have a lot of criterion, since it makes me pressure, which forces me to make a great trailer.
2. Which of the criteria the class came up with do you think is the most important?  Why?
I think No.3:  Tell the audience roughly about the story in the least amount of time, is the most important criteria which the class came up. It is because we have to tell the story descriptive, but in a short time so that everyone won’t be bored.3. Do you feel that the class left out any really important criteria? What ones?

No. Our class didn’t left out any really important criteria.
4. Do you think the process we used (research, small group agreement, then whole class agreement) is a good way to develop criteria – why or why not?
I think it is a good way to develop criteria. It is because then each people can check the criteria, and fix it when it is not good.

Resource Reflection

1.  Which applications do you think will be best to create a trailer?  Why?
I think iMovie and Adobe Premiere Pro CS5 will be best to create a book trailer, since they have advanced tools, such as moving texts and putting one moving video into a picture.
2.  Which applications do you think will be the least useful for creating a book trailer?  Why?
I think Powerpoint/Keynote will be the least useful for creating a book trailer, since it uses still pictures, and not that attractive, comparing with videos and images that moves around.

3.  Do you already feel confident about using the application?  If not how much will you need to learn?

No, I don’t feel a little confident about the application I used, “Adobe Premiere Pro CS5″. It is because I didn’t know how to move texts so my friend helped me moving texts.

4.  Do you think it makes more sense to choose an application and then start designing, or to design your trailer first and then choose an application to make it?  Explain.

I think it makes more sense to choose the best application you think, and then design the trailer. Because if you design your trailer first, then you might later think that there are some parts that doesn’t match to the application, so you have to think again, which then takes a long time to finalize the plan.

Yay :D !!! Finally our whole unit “Teachers for the future!” has completed. But before I say this, I need to finish typing this reflection to show that this unit is 100% done. OK. In Evaluate (+ Attitude and behavior), we did one thing; filling the survey that our teacher gave us. The content was about Thinking skills, Collaborative skills, Organizational skills and Reflection+Communication. And you have to tick (circle, cross, or whatever things that were suitable for us) one out of five boxes which were; Always, Usually, Sometimes, Beginning/Ocassionally, Rarely/Never. I circled almost everything “Always” because I anticipate that I did all the entries written in the survey very well. Also there was a survey on the other side which was almost the same text as we did in the first one, so I don’t need to explain this one since if I write it, it would get longer ;)

I think “Approaches to Learning” out of the five “Areas of Interaction” (I think I’ll call it AoI later on) fits best with this project because there were organizational skills, Problem Solving skills and other abilities that we require to make an effective tutorial video. The reason is that if I wasn’t organized when I was screencasting my video, there would be some mistakes made like speaking too fast and forgetting the script of what you were going to say. Also, when I was stuck at my work, I needed to solve the problem to fix and make the tutorial more successful. There were also Communication skills, which I also needed to because when I was stuck at my work, I had to communicate with my friends to advice me some points to fix it. In addition, the skills listed in the “Approaches to Learning” was really suited and had a very important role in our project.

A combination of organizational skill and blog

The most important thing I learned during this project was to prepare, prepare and prepare. The reason is that if I wasn’t prepared for my tutorial (e.g. Not enough items ready for the tutorial), the finalized tutorial wouldn’t be high quality or good (to say it easy). Also, if I was not prepared for my script when recording the tutorial, I would have made mistakes or skipped some important words when speaking into the computer. Another significant thing that I learned in this unit was to always see the tutorial in different people’s perspectives. The reason is that, even if you think your finalized tutorial is perfect for you, some people might not believe that the tutorial’s perfect. To summarize this paragraph, these things helped me to make a successful tutorial (for me :D ).

In the Approaches to Learning, I used and developed my organizational skills & attitudes towards work during this project, “Teachers of the Future!”. I used the organizational skills in this project almost all criteria (Investigate, Plan, Create, and Evaluate). In the Investigate section, I used my organizational skills when I was making my tutorial research. The reason is that the tutorial storyboard was the first step of the project and we had to write some good points and some bad points about a tutorial (not ours!!!). So if the tutorial storyboard wasn’t organized, then the teacher and I wouldn’t know what I’m talking about. In the Plan section, I used my organizational abilities when I was creating my tutorial storyboard. I had to use my organizational skills so that the tutorial storyboard would be easier to see than a messy tutorial storyboard (kind of what I said in the Investigate section…) Well in the Create section, I used my organizational skills a lot because we had to create our own tutorial neat and organized (kind of like the same meaning… :( ) For instance, if I was not organized when I was screencasting my tutorial using Quicktime Player, then the tutorial would not be in good quality since I wasn’t ready for getting my things for the screencasting time.

I think I learned “Investigate” the most in this project because I learned a lot of things to make a successful tutorial video by watching some tutorials (what you want to know) and recorded in our own tutorial research. To say it in detail, we had to answer “List the things in the tutorial that would help you improve your skills?”, “What did the creator do well? Why was it good?” and “What was hard to understand? Why wasn’t it helpful?” & answered it in our tutorial research. So after I finished it, I learned a lot of things to make a successful tutorial.

My strengths in this project was to do my tutorial research. The reason is that I think my tutorial research has a lot of of details in. Also, I did the tutorial research concentratively without disturbed by someone. On the other hand, my weaknesses in this project was to edit in iMovie because I didn’t put any good effects in to make a catchy tutorial. Another thing is that I did it quick so there would be some mistakes in.

I think I demonstrated Risk-taker during this project because I challenged a lot of new things. For example, I experienced how to screencast the tutorial on Quicktime Player and how to add some credits into my tutorial video using iMovie. Besides, I learned how to make a successful tutorial video using the tutorial research, and making my own tutorial video using the tutorial storyboard (Wait, did I put so many links of my tutorial research?) Additionally, I learned a lot of other new things in this project, so this demonstrates me that I was a Risk Taker.

OK. During this project, I think I grew up as a “successful” learner because this project made me a person who don’t give up even something bad happened. One example is that when I finished my

Never give up!

Never give up!

tutorial, I made a mistake (I put my last name on the google docs+speaking it!!!) so I had to start all over again. But because I didn’t give up on this accident, I fixed the mistake during class and exported it to vimeo. So I think that this not-giving-up shows that this learner (or people :) ) is a proper person because they didn’t forfeit even some big accident has happened. I think I will use this in other classes like Humanities, Science, and other subjects.

Phew~ :o . I have finished my reflection!!! But don’t read just the Evaluate Reflection only, read other reflections that I wrote during this project:

My hands are REALLY tired now because of writing this lo~ng reflection. WOW! 1258 words :D !!! Oh no, our 2nd units has finished! I am a little sad now because I like Technology :( To summarize all of this unit, I have learned a lot of things and I’ll going to use this when I’m in High School, University, or an Adult! Create Reflection

How to solve math problems with “x” in from YIS Academics on Vimeo.

OK… for me, I have finished my tutorial and exported to Vimeo (using YIS Vimeo Account) already. The reason is that I finished screencasting, editing and final checking my tutorial, using Quicktime Player, Imovie and final check by Mrs. Cofino. Well, this unit’s Create was quicker than the last unit’s Create. Well, the last thing we always have to do is this reflection :D

When I was creating my own tutorial, I learned that setting deadlines and time management was important. The reason is that if youdeadlinedidn’t set deadlines, you might forget and wouldn’t finish the project. It is also the same reason that time management was important. Additionally, I learned how to screencast the tutorial, how to make “starring” in Imovie. When I finally knew how to screencast the tutorial using Quicktime Player, I was surprised how Quicktime Player was useful when making a tutorial. But on the other hand, there were some easy parts when I was creating my tutorial.

I am very happy with my finished tutorial about how to solve math problems with “x” in. The Screen shot 2011-05-09 at 6.19.59 PMreason is that I did this project seriously and concentrated on my work, and the tutorial shows that I did my work positively. Another reason is that I liked editing and deleting some NG parts carefully by 0.1 seconds such as when the recorder appeared. Additionally, I am also happy because I had fun experiencing new things like screencasting the tutorial and exporting it to Vimeo (with Mrs. Cofino’s help).

Well in my opinion, it was both difficult and easy to create my tutorial. The difficult part was to screencast the tutorial using Quicktime Player because there were some interruptions or some voices in with the failure one and I had to do it a couple of times, which took 3 days to finish screencasting it. Another difficult part was when explaining with the time I set in my tutorial storyboard. Sometimes, I took tutorials that were way shorter than the time I set on the tutorial storyboard so I had to do more than 7 times in some parts of the tutorial. But abnormally, there were some easy parts when I was creating my tutorial. One instance is when editing my tutorial using Imovie. The reason was that this progress was really quick! It took me about 30 minutes do finished it. The contents of this progress was to insert in all the parts of the tutorial, edit/delete some NG parts in Imovie, and adding the “Starring” in the last part. Another easy section was to put into Vimeo. Although Mrs. Cofino uploaded the tutorial, there was a part that is called “Description” which you define you tutorial (what’s the content, etc). That description was one of the easy parts that I was talking right now ;)

So, the next paragraph is about which criteria does my tutorial meets to my class which is 6C’s tutorial criteria. Well, my tutorial meetsScreen shot 2011-05-09 at 6.24.10 PM almost everything in the tutorial criteria, except for Title, Zoom and Relevant. The reason that my title of the tutorial ‘How to solve math problems with “x” in’ doesn’t meet with “Title” in the tutorial criteria is because since this tutorial is about math, I had to be serious. In my opinion, if my tutorial’s title was not serious the audience will also not going to be watching my tutorial seriously, and would still not know how to do the skill that I said. Secondly, I didn’t zoom in my tutorial because I made the font big to size 24. Since I made my todo-listfont size to 24 which the audience could see the words, there was no need to zoom in. Thirdly, I didn’t put relevant in because I was typing and saying numbers and math symbols, so there wasn’t any description like “upside down u”. Since I spoke some negative parts, now I’m going to talk about the positive part of my tutorial. I think I meet with these criteria(Organized, Correct Grammar, Length, Voice, Visuals, Focused, Time Lapse, Clear of Obstructions, Topic, Be positive, Specific, Detailed and Simple) because I was conscious to add almost of our tutorial criteria when I was editing my tutorial.

Even I think that I learned enough to make a successful tutorial video, I still need to learn a lot of things to make a tutorial video more successful. For example, how to make colorful backgrounds while screencasting the video with Quicktime Player. Also, I want to know how to zoom in with the speed equally when screencasting. The reason is that I already know how to zoom in (control+scroll in with the trackpad in mac) but I can’ t make the zoom in speed equally like one second is slow and another second is fast. Overall, I need to learn more to make a successful video that no one ever made before.

Phew. I have finally finished my reflection :D How many words? Wow 800 and more!!! Well, this was the reflection for Create, the Criterion D of our 2nd unit, “Teachers of the Future!”

Plan Reflection

Well, we have finally finished our second criteria of “Plan” in our second unit since there was a M9.0 Earthquake on March 11th, 2011 that struck Japan. But in my opinion, I still have a feeling that should we continue to go to school because there were a lot of people 400km Screen shot 2011-04-14 at 9.08.50 PMaway from our place who still can’t go to school :( Back to the Plan Reflection, we first did a Tutorial Storyboard of our topic. My topic was “How to solve problems with x in”. I made 8 clips for the steps including the title and the ending. We then had to add outlines. It means the background information of the tutorial we have chosen like the length of the clip and the script (what you are going to say in the tutorial video). After the outline, we then had to plan out the tasks and setting the deadline using the Tutorial Plan Template. I set out the deadlines using the calendar and sorting out using my brain. Finally, we are reflecting about this unit, which is this reflection :D

My planning or my tutorial storyboard demonstrates excellent tutorial design since IScreen shot 2011-04-14 at 9.13.25 PMhave Specific Details, Big Fonts and Correct Grammar in our tutorial criteria. Also, I made the clips neat and organized so that it would turn into a proper tutorial video. I wrote specific outlines included in the tutorial storyboard such as each clip’s length are different which could also turnout to a successful video :) To finalize, these are the things Screen shot 2011-04-14 at 9.40.16 PMthat proves that my tutorial storyboard demonstrates excellent tutorial design.

My plan ensures that the viewers of the tutorial will definitely learn the skill by the neatness and simpleness of the plan that I did. I made the plan neat and organized so that the viewers would 100% understand the process of how to solve problems with x in within few steps. Also, you won’t waste time when screencasting the video if you made it neat. I also made the plan and the storyboard simple because it will just distract the audience in the video if the plan’s complicated.

Even I feel very OK with this tutorial unit, I still need to learn a lot of things. For example, I want/need to learn how to screencast the video using the computer. I need to screencast because it is easier to type how to solve math problems with x in rather than to write and erasing the numbers. Besides, I also need to learn how to import the finalized tutorial video into Youtube. The reason is that don’t have an account for Youtube, so I have never imported a video into Youtube. To summarize, I need to learn a lot of things to make my tutorial video successful! :)

Investigate Reflection

Wow, that was quick! Our Project 2 in Technology “Teachers of the future!” Criterion A: Investigate has finished!!! That criterion Screen shot 2011-02-14 at 8.45.02 PMtook about 3 weeks. In that three weeks, we did 3 things. First, we did a tutorial research which we saw 3~5 tutorials and filled in the questions. The questions were “List the things in the tutorial that would help you improve your skills”, “What did the creator do well? Why was it good?”, and “What was hard to understand? Why wasn’t it helpful?”. I think I putted in lots of detailsScreen shot 2011-02-14 at 8.51.12 PM and made it fantastic. The second activity was to embedded your favorite tutorial from your tutorial research to your blog post and typed why you chose it. Then, you go to two other student’s blogs and comment their tutorials answering three questions in the assignment sheet. I commented on Leo’s blog and Yong-Won’s blog. After we did that, we had to make a presentation of a technological skill that people needs help with. I mad a presentation about how to add a pet widget on your blog because some people asks me. Finally, we need to write a reflection, which is this :D

Just I mentioned before, I commented on Leo’s blog and Yong-Won’s blog. Watching those two tutorial, I learned how to backflip in Leo’s and how to ollie in Yong-Won’s. But if it was a technological skill, I learned that using high-quality camera and detailed advices will make a successful tutorial video in Leo’s, and speaking in clear voices will make a good tutorial video in Yong-Won’s. I think these things could support me at my final assessment :)

I learned lots of things in the Investigate. I think it is because it is my first time to make a tutorial to help people/audiences/viewers. For example, I learned that making tutorial is a hard thing to do… but making tutorial is also fun. Also, I learned that using clear voices and other things can lead to a successful tutorial video. I can use these points to make a great tutorial by using these points in a proper place. Because if you don’ t put it in a proper place, there is no point of inserting it in.

Comparing with the best tutorial video I chose in my tutorial research and the presentation above, I now need to learn to give specific details to the audience so that the audience would be 100% sure of how to do it. Also, using voices because we didn’t use voices in our presentation. Additionally, making the background more attractive so that the viewers will have a interest in the tutorial video. To summarize, I need to learn more of making a successful video ;)

The Best Tutorial in my research

I would choose “How to throw a screwball in baseball” because the creator instructed to the viewers politely, and also told us some advises to throw a screwball. Additionally, most of the parts in this instructional video are positive, and only some parts are negative for my opinion. For example, the part that was positive in the video was that he was showing us the grip of the ball a long time so that we can remember. But on another hand, the instructor was mumbling a lot so that wasted some time, which is a negative part. To summarize, I would watch his video of throwing slider, curveball, screwball, etc to improve my throwing skills.

Evaluate Reflection

The part of this project that I like the most was the Plan Reflection because that was the time that I started succeeding my blog. Screen shot 2011-01-25 at 2.14.51 PMFor example, we did activities like making our blog template and how to grow a blog sheet which supported me to make a good blog. Also, the reflection has lots of details and have pictures that helps explaining it. On another hand, my least favorite one was the Investigate Reflection because at that time, I didn’t know what kind of things should I do in the blog, so Screen shot 2011-01-25 at 2.22.44 PMwhen I look back now, this is the worst one. Additionally, it is the least detailed reflection I wrote in my blog.

My strengths in this project are to complete the tasks with details. For example, my reflections, how to grow a blog sheet and my best blog template. Also, adding pictures and videos to entertain the readers, but also to support my blog post. My weaknesses during this project are not finishing my tasks before technology lesson ends.

I think I grew a lot during this project by learning more technology skills used in blogs. Some examples are adding links to your blog, adding your friends, inserting a screen shot which if you click it, it will open at a new window and changing your blog and post titles. Also, I become a learner of time management. I wrote this because over the past few years, I was really bad at managing my time whenever it is a project or not. And once, I thought that we don’t need time management. But because of this tech project, I learned that time management is really important for us right now, or even in the future.

Photo on 2011-01-25 at 18.37To summarize this reflection, I really loved this project since my technology teacher, Mrs. Cofino, encouraged me. Since I like using electronic devices, I worked hard at trying to make my blog successful, and made it to this step. Thank you to Mrs. Cofino, and other people who helped me when I was stuck at my work.
