Grade 7 Drama Unit 1 – Mime Reflection

Describe the progress have you made so far. (You may need to review the skills and knowledge area for the unit, either on your cover sheet or at the top of this wiki)
In the Grade 7 Unit 1 about Mime, I think I did a good progress on the skills that are shown in the front page in the unit. In the mime scene, I was able to communicate feelings non-verbally with my group-mates Yong Won and Kate. I also acted my character (a teenager) well by doing actions that are obvious in our everyday life, such as listening to the music; I put my hands next to my ears and nodded myself so that the audience would know that I was listening to the music.

What are the strengths and weaknesses in your summative piece of work?

My strength in my mime scene was manipulating imaginary objects. I think I showed that I was listening to music to the audience well in our scene. In the other hand, my weakness was my facial expression, such as when I was being scowled by Yong-Won (the person who’s wearing a gray shirt) I think it is because I don’t change my facial expression much, as you can see in my scene (Our scene starts from 8:30 in the movie, and I’m the one with the white shirt). Another weakness in my scene was that I didn’t show my reactions clearly when Yong-Won was being angry at me in the scene. My face was almost normal, and not exaggerating. One more weakness for me is that I didn’t exaggerate my expression and my movement.
Is your scene successful? Why or why not?
Our scene was half successful and half unsuccessful, from my perspective. To tell the truth, we suddenly changed our scene on the day we had to perform, even Mr. Curkovic, our drama teacher advised me how to perform better in the old mime scene we (Kate, Yong-Won, and I) discussed first. Sorry Mr. Curkovic… But still I used some advises that Mr. C told me and used in the mime scene. But still, I was satisfied after we finished our mime scene, because we somehow planned and practiced our new mime scene in 30 minutes.
What could you do to further improve your artistic process?
When I watched my mime scene and other people’s mime scene, especially the mime scene whose setting was in the airplane, I had some things that I would improve on my mime scene if we could do this again. For instance, I can improve on being more realistic just like in the airplane. One example that I saw was really good at being realistic was Keigo in the first group on the video; he was realistic by shaking the crops (chair) and his body when he couldn’t fasten his safety belt. I can also improve on exaggerating my feelings.
