<div>A Historian is a person that looks for information, preferably something or someone in the past, using the information that is available to him/ her. How they would do this is they would try to trace the source of the information just to get to whatever they are trying to find.</div>
<div>Not only do historians look for something in the past, it is also their job to record and properly interpret their information or findings. They have to write why they think that this or that is the answer based on their findings. It is their responsibility to explain and lay out all of the facts so that there is clear reasoning behind the results.</div>
<ul>
<li>Include the work you did as a historian for the generations project? What did you have to do? What challenges did you find? What was your message?</li>
</ul>
<div>For the project, I had to go back in time and think from my grandfather or father&#8217;s point of view to express hardships or just emotions in general. I had to pretend I was in their shoes just to be able to explain in detail what it was like for them. There were many things that my grandfather and father told me, but I had to find somethings through researching things based on what they said. For example they gave me the date or a few things that were big back then, and based on that I had to find other things that may have linked or related to that.</div>
<div>I found it challenging to relating a lot of things in detail, especially for my grandfather. It was such a long time ago and often I found it difficult to relate some things to the past. For example it was difficult to find what kind of things were popular in that time where he lived. So that was the main challenge.</div>

<li>How might technology change the way history is recorded and remembered?</li>

<div>Technology definitely helps us research and record history. Before technology, everyone would have to heavily rely on primary sources. Now with internet, we can find information using secondary sources. Primary sources are of course better, because you can be more specific, but it is easier and you can be more efficient in what you do with the internet overall.</div>
<div>You can store and share information a lot more quickly and easily. If you want to send the information to someone who cares or relates to the topic, the internet is arguably the best way to do it.</div>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p><span style="text-decoration: underline;"><strong>What I know about probability:</strong> </span>Probability is the likeliness or unlikeliness of something happening. In the case of mathematics, it is displayed through ratios or fractions.</p>
<p>For example, person 1&#8242;s results tend to be 3 times better than person 2&#8242;s. What is the ratio of person 1&#8242;s results to person 2&#8242;s if person 2&#8242;s result is 4 points. Answer: 12:4</p>
<p>I did ^this kind of activity before in previous years, although it was simple, I found it useful when understanding what probability was about. The rest of the unit or time we studied probability was based on these kind of equations.</p>
<p><strong><span style="text-decoration: underline;">What I want to know: </span></strong>I want to explore what other kinds of probability there are. Because what I did before seems overly simple.</p>
<p><span style="text-decoration: underline;"><strong>Probability is important because&#8230;: </strong></span><strong></strong>When not being sure about something, it helps to estimate your answer. When you have general results to find your exact answer, you can use probability to find a close answer to the correct one.</p>
<p><strong><span style="text-decoration: underline;">What I don&#8217;t want to do: </span></strong>I don&#8217;t want to going into stats and taking notes to find an answer. I think that that is one of the main factors of probability is to get results to find a probable answer presumably something close to the actual answer.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>In some ways, yes copyright does damage the use of creativity. It limits people to only what they create themselves instead of expanding upon an already great idea. Although creating something yourself is the base of creativity, I think that there is a lot more to it than what one can come up with.</p>
<p>Creativity can also be to come up with a new composition using things that have already been created. This can actually be more difficult for you to do if the original is already so good and it has already. Looking back at Faden&#8217;s use of clips from Disney movies, there are many occasions that it would not have been interesting if it had not originally been part of a Disney movie. Sometimes artists like Faden can tie certain things into the mashup from the original to make an interesting sort of contrast for the audience to think about.</p>
<p>As I mentioned earlier, copyright affects the use of work from other people for your own mashups, but it can also drastically affect the amount of ideas you can put into your own creations. Say you think of something but one small factor had to do with another movie or something that has copyright protection. As we have already seen many of those movies, we subconsciously think of those things, which honestly is not our fault.</p>
<p>Overall I think that copyright should simply be toned down to some factors. For example it is alright if it is not for commercial purposes, if you give them credit or if they give you permission directly. Although permission is something that does not come by very often, it is still definitely the most reassuring way to know that the owner is alright with the idea.</p>

<p>Hinton shows this by many people classify others by their social and economic status. Hinton shows that many people are tricked into the idea that the rich are kind and pleasant while the poor are vicious and treat others badly.</p>
<p><strong>2. Do narrators always tell the truth? Is Ponyboy a reliable narrator?</strong></p>
<p>Ponyboy shows his perspective, his point of view. So I would say that it is not a lie, but it could be different for other characters because his opinion is completely subjective.</p>
<p><strong>3. Is <em>The Outsiders</em> relevant to you? Can you relate to it? Why or why not?</strong><strong></strong></p>
<p><strong> </strong>It could in some ways, although there is not as much discrimination or violence as there is in the outsiders. In our grade there are separate groups but rather than defining us socially, it just defines what kind of people or just who are our friends.</p>
<p><strong>4. Should <em>The Outsiders</em> be taught in school? If so, at what grade level?</strong></p>
<p><strong> </strong>Yes, because it helps show how diverse cultures can be, and I think that it appropriate for 8th or 9th grade.</p>
<p><strong>5. Who is your favourite character and why? Who is your least favourite? Explain your choice.</strong></p>
<p><strong> </strong>My favourite would probably be Two-bit because he is a loyal kind of character but at the same time he has authority to make decisions to make sure that the gang stays alive. My least favourite would probably be Johnny because I don&#8217;t like his scared, defenceless sense of not being able to make smart choices. I found that there were a few times that what he did was due to this.</p>
<p><strong>6. Which character impacts you the most? What emotions do you feel for that character? Does he/she remind you of someone else you know? Of yourself?</strong></p>
<div>Probably Randy because he really feels bad for what he did unlike any other character. He wants to change and reform his life and start over. He found it in himself to apologize to Ponyboy and try to find some sense in what he did. I liked because he went from a mindless boy causing trouble to a caring, yet apologetic human being.</div>

<ol>
<li>Improve my trumpet playing skills.</li>
<li>Achieve good overall grades</li>
<li>Take part in more activities</li>
<li>Become better at cross country/ running in general</li>
</ol>
<p>Reflection on them:</p>
<ol>
<li>I improved overall, although there are still a few small factors that I feel that is very important to improve. Although this was what I wanted to achieve by this semester, it is something that I know is going to take a lot longer than I had anticipated. Although on the whole, I feel happy with my progress.</li>
<li>When I saw my report, I was satisfied with my scores, although I think that I could have improved on one or two subjects that I wanted to do well on. This is definitely something that I should set as a goal for the next semester.</li>
<li>I took part in 2 activities in the first semester, but I was still very happy with the improvement that I made through cross country which leads me onto my next goal. Overall this goal was well completed on my part.</li>
<li>I was very happy with my improvement in running last semester. After taking part in the cross country activity, I had become a lot more able to run and I could endure running for a lot longer. I think that I can safely say that I completed this goal.</li>
</ol>
<p>As I mentioned earlier, I was quite satisfied with my report card results. Although I was, I found that I could have improved upon a few classes. I found this unfortunate, I think that to improve in these classes is definitely something that I will set as a goal this semester.</p>
<p>My goals</p>
<ol>
<li>Achieve better grades than I did last semester.</li>
<li>Continue running and make sure that I do not drag behind in cross country in HS.</li>
<li>I also want to practice tennis more and improve so that I can make it into the team next year.</li>
<li>Organize my locker a little bit more.</li>

<p>I had to show that I was a different kind of person from my partner. In this case you could see that my partner&#8217;s character and my character had a very different kind of life, which probably comes from the different types of lifestyles and background that our characters have. You can also see that I am in a rush and somewhat under stress. On the other hand my partner is more relaxed and seems to be in a calm state. I had to be aware of how he was acting in order to make my character&#8217;s personality believable.</p>
<p><strong>How did I approach creating the character? Was it successful - if so how? </strong></p>
<p>I had to make my character believable, meaning I couldn&#8217;t make him too elaborate. I couldn&#8217;t make him peculiar because then I would have to add some sort of background to the person, which would be difficult. I think that the character was a success, because he is a normal person getting groceries, perhaps as a chore for his family, or maybe he is a cook at a restaurant, either way he needs to get them and he is in a rush. At the same time, he is not completely closed into this because he does ask for a soda, making him a more believable person, maybe he just wants something to drink on his way back home or on his way back to the restaurant.</p>
<p><strong>What needed improvement? Make a suggestion?</strong></p>
<p>I think that what happened could have been made more elaborate, instead of going too in depth with the characters themselves. By making the storyline more interesting, the people don&#8217;t have to be altered; this is what I think that my partner and I didn&#8217;t quite interpret that as well as it would have helped. I think that that is something to be aware of next time.</p>
<p><strong>How can I use these skills in performance</strong></p>
<p><strong></strong>I think that these are very significant factors in actual stage performances as well because I think that you need to be able to differentiate characters and their background. Overall I think that it is definitely one of the most important factors for a character in an act, So I think that this will be used when creating characters in general.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>In general, I think that my presentation was easy to understand. I tried to make my reading fairly simple and short, so that people would not lose interest over time. This was an aspect that I had to pay attention to when I was creating my video, and I think that I did well to maintain that element.<br />
Investigate<br />
I think that I did well to explore my options and find different ways of presenting. I wanted to present my video in RSA format in the beginning, though after trying it out it was too difficult to control the lighting. This was part of my investigation and I thinked that the investigation was worth it because I did not make the mistake while I was creating my final project.<br />
Design<br />
I think that I did well to make a unique and interesting kind of presentation. My design was different to everyone else’ s which I think helped make it more interesting to watch. The design of the presentation itself was difficult to decide because originally, I wanted to draw each page as I recorded the video but that was too difficult so I went with this design concept.<br />
Plan<br />
I think that my plan was somewhat off track because I had my presentation plan set for another type of presentation format. I had to alter my plans when I had to change the way I was going to present. For example I planned that I was going to draw on a large canvas with a black marker in a brightly lit room as I recorded but I decided to make it a dimly lit room with a spotlight when I was going to draw beforehand then record.<br />
Create<br />
I think that my creation turned to be fairly well done, because I think that I did well to make people interested. I think that this was very largely dependant on the lighting or the way the presentation was formated.<br />
Evaluate<br />
Overall I am satisfied with the project and the research that I was able to complete. The video itself was built upon all this and I think that I had a good and accurate ‘base’ to build upon my research and eventually create my project.<br />
Attitudes in Technology<br />
I feel as if I did well to engage to my work and try my best to create the best that I could out of my available resources. Overall I enjoyed creating the video itself.</p>

<p>Monday, 15th of October, 2012<br />
Day 1, First of five days:</p>
<p>5:30am. That was when I woke up. I took all of my last minute things, I put on my shoes and leave for Haneda Airport. I went to Terminal 1, Clocktower 4 where I met up with the rest of my grade.<br />
As a large group all of us had to be careful not to disturb other people who might also be travelling to somewhere by plane.<br />
On the plane it was somewhat more calm and orderly than I had expected so I think that most of the people on board the plane with us had a reasonably comfortable flight.<br />
When we arrived at the the Niseko airport we collected our baggage, and almost as if it was a team effort, we managed to get onto the bus in an orderly manner.<br />
The bus ride took 2 hours before we arrived at the NAC, where we were greeted by a lunch of hamburgers. Even though the burgers were already quite cold, they tasted good and gave us the energy that we needed to hike to our campsite.<br />
Straight after we had our breakfast all of our luggage that we didn’t need while we were in the campsite were all stored in a room until we returned.<br />
About 10 minutes after that, we started to hike to the campsite. It started to grow dark rapidly as we moved from NAC to the campsite. The hike was 8 km long and it took quite a reasonable amount of time. It was difficult to tell where we were going, especially because there was a lot of foliage under our feet, not a specific road. As a group we moved quite quickly and as soon as we arrived at the campsite, and we separated into 2 groups.<br />
One of the groups made dinner while the other set up the tents for the night. After about 30 minutes, all of tents were set up and shortly after, all of the vegetables were cut up and the fires were started.<br />
As the blue evening sky turned into the empty pitch blackness of the night, it grew colder and the need for warmth became greater. Getting a larger fire started or even getting some hot curry to eat seemed so more important than ever.<br />
At last after waiting for about an hour the curry was ready to eat. People were racing to get their bowls, so it did not work out as well as people might have intended it to. Maybe if we had formed some sort of line, people might have had an easier time getting organized.<br />
After our dinner of curry we went back to our tents, where some people got ready to sleep and others went to the onsen to take a warm bath in the cold weather. No-one in my group went actually, meaning we had to experience the chaos outside of our tents.<br />
My tent group and I stayed inside our tents, though that was not the case for some other groups. Although at times it was somewhat hilarious to listen to them clown around outside, it gradually became obnoxious when we were trying to get some rest. We aren’t sure what exactly happened, but eventually everyone calmed down and we got some rest.</p>
<p>Tuesday, 16th of October, 2012<br />
Day 2, Depart from the campsite:</p>
<p>We woke up in our damp, unstable tents as the bright sunlight passed through the thin walls of the tent. The ones who were already awake and I woke the others who were still asleep. We were actually woken up by the sound of other people laughing and talking from other tents. I went outside to see what was going on but I was simply informed that it was earlier and that there was still an hour and a half until we had to get up from bed. This may have been a good opportunity to get an extra hour and a half’s worth of sleep, but we took advantage of the time we had to warm up before we had breakfast.<br />
Sandwiches with ham, cheese and all sorts of other foods is what we had for breakfast. I was relieved to have eaten something after that long enduring night. All of us sat by a fire eating away at our sandwiches.<br />
We met up with the whole grade and we got ready for the morning hike. We climbed up an already trodden path up the mountain that led to a road that was wide enough for two cars to go up. Everyone co-operated well to follow the field studies advisor, which was quite beneficial when we didn’t have a lot time.<br />
Although the campsite was lot’s of fun and there was plenty of things to do there, I am sure that I was not the only one who was aching to get into the warmth of the bus.<br />
The bus picked us up at the bottom of the hill of which we were camping on, and took us to NIS (Niseko International School) where we met Mr. Reynolds, our former PE teacher from YIS. It was very nice of him and his wife to prepare a laid out lunch for us. For the first time after the airport, all of us were in a straight line and no-one seemed to be rushing in front of others to get in line. So I would say that lunch at NIS worked out quite well.<br />
After that we were taken to another school, where we were taught how to make Ikebana flower decorations by the students there. They were very helpful and fortunately, very understanding of our limited knowledge about creating these decorations. I think that overall everyone enjoyed and everyone left satisfied with their effort to make their Ikebana flowers.<br />
The bus took us to a pumpkin farm that is owned by a lady who had agreed to let us help her take down her greenhouse skeletons.<br />
Each class had a specific greenhouse that they had to dismantle, so that it would be an efficient process. We all co-operated well to help each other unhook parts, carry the main stems and overall just to take down the green house.<br />
After each class had dismantled 2 greenhouse or so, we were given a pumpkin to make into a jack-o-lanterns. There was a limited amount of knives that we could use so we had to take turns in using them. Again I think that we helped each other well by giving each other the knives every time we were finished with a step. For example when we had emptied the insides we would pass it on to another person.<br />
Shortly after we had taken photos and thanked the woman, we headed to the NAC and had dinner. After about an hour there we went to the hotel that we would be staying at.<br />
It was a relief to finally get indoors and be able to wear new clothes. It was difficult to organize each room because of the little space we had.<br />
It was lights out at 10 and it felt great to finally sleep in some form of blanket.<br />
Wednesday, 17th of October, 2012<br />
Day 3, Biking and Rafting:</p>
<p>We had our first breakfast at the hotel in the morning. There was quite a nice variety of foods to choose from, which was a nice change from the meals we have had at NAC or at the campsite.<br />
The whole grade went to NAC again to be divided into two activity groups. Group 1: Kayaking to an island and hiking on the island assuming that we get to the island in the first place. Group 2: Mountain biking and whitewater rafting.<br />
I was put into to group 2 along with a few of my friends. Straight away we collected our rafting suits and dry suit boots. We also were assigned our bicycles and a helmet as well.<br />
As a group, I think that it was quite unbalanced overall, because of how some people were slower or otherwise faster than others. So the line in which we were going along with was somewhat broken. I don’t think that worked out very well. So some of us had to go slower so that the others could catch up. The whole bicycle ride would have been around 24 km long, though it had to be reduced to about 14 km because of the time shortage that we had.<br />
After the 14 km stop, we headed straight for the white water rafting meeting area, where we met another field studies advisor. We dropped off our bicycles so that he could take them back to NAC for us. Shortly after we had done that a bus picked us up and took us to a nearby soba restaurant where we had a lunch of soba noodles.<br />
Whitewater rafting required more of a team effort overall than biking. White water rafting was also very interesting because if someone had fallen off your raft, it was your responsibility to help them back onto the raft. I think that one of the main reasons why rafting was great to do was because it is an activity where you can never really be let off of your guard, especially because often it can be intense and you can fall off of the raft easily. Although this may have seemed like a difficult activity for everyone I think that everyone did quite well in keeping themselves and others on the boat.<br />
We returned to NAC cold and wet by bus and to make matters worse it was raining hard. Quickly, but not quite as efficiently as we would have liked it to be, we took off our dry suits and a lot of us were surprised to find that the clothes that we wearing under had been affected by the water. After we had changed we went indoors to keep and dry and to warm up.<br />
We ate dinner at NAC again and we all headed back to the hotel with group 1.<br />
The night was difficult to make sense of apart from the fact that many people kept other people up, which to be honest was overall quite annoying. Though I still do see it this way, my roommates too were making noise so I think that everybody was not doing so well in keeping quiet.</p>
<p>Thursday, 18th of October, 2012<br />
Day 4, Kayaking, Last full day:</p>
<p>In the morning after breakfast, we went to NAC again to get prepared for Kayaking. We collected dry suits, boots and a life jacket. The ride to the kayak site took about an hour and a half. When we got there we had to collect a paddle, choose a kayak and get a teammate to go on the kayak with you. I paired up with Pascal, and soon after we were on the water. Kayaking is another sport that requires teamwork in between you and your partner. And because teamwork is so essential, we both have to work just as hard to move from place to place with the kayak.<br />
Eventually Pascal and I were taken by the tide and we were almost 100m or so away from the group. We even had to get an advisor helps us get back because we were so far out that it was difficult for us to get back.<br />
After a while of rowing hard and at a steady pace, we managed to regroup with everyone. By the time we had, the advisory crew had decided that it was best to head back straight away without going to the island. I think that that was probably a good choice because the wind was getting strong and the waves were getting bigger, meaning that it would have been harder to get back later when the wind is even stronger.<br />
From that point on Pascal and I had no trouble getting back, because we were aware of the danger of getting too far out. We often had to change directions so that we did not strafe off to on side and then getting pulled further and further away. I think that kayaking is one of the hardest team effort activities that I have ever done, especially because two-man kayaking is something that I am not familiar with.<br />
We had lunch of tuna or chicken burritos by the large lake we kayaked in. It felt great to get my stomach filled after the tiring efforts of kayaking.<br />
While we waited for staff to pack away the kayaks, or anything else that needed to be packed up, a group of people including my friends and I went for a walk in a nearby park.<br />
This was a great way to explore the outskirts of the lake, and a great way to use time.<br />
Later that day we had our last dinner at NAC, where we thanked the NAC staff for the activities and the food, as we left for the hotel once again.<br />
My roommates and I performed a short skit which had to mostly be improvised, though I think that worked out quite well. We also watched the skits by other people which was also quite entertaining.<br />
We had lights out at 10:30.</p>
<p>Friday, 19th of October, 2012<br />
Day 5, last day &#8211; Going home:</p>
<p>The morning was actually quite a rush, because we all had to pack up our bags and put away all of the futon mattresses. This again was a team effort kind of thing, especially because of the time shortage. After about 30 minutes of piling mattress on mattress, we got everything packed away and the bags ready to leave. The bus ride again was about 2 hours long until we arrived at the airport.<br />
It was a rush to get lunch at the airport because we were running quite a few minutes late. Though fortunately my friends and I managed to get back to the group on time.<br />
The plane ride was more peaceful than the way to Hokkaido, of course taking into consideration that everyone was quite tired. We made a last effort to organize who was going home and where and how and then we all left to finally, go home.</p>

<p>This poem is about the sorrow of a man who departs from his apartment, which seems so dear and precious to him. To renew his apartment room so that other people would have a new room to live in, he had to paint the walls, window sills, the ceiling, the floor, etc. His compassion for this home seems to have developed over the ten years that he lived there, and it is a difficulty when it comes to leaving the place. “Ten years of fears, unrequited loves, odd jobs, of night phone calls.” This shows that all of his hardships or difficulties that he had in his ten years living there has been somehow softened by the single place where nothing would ever change, where he could always feel safe and the same. Also, the apartment seems to act like some sort of guardian.</p>
<p>It is not completely clear why he had moved out of the apartment, however there are certain details that help unfog these questions. “Here on a March day in ‘89”. Through this you can tell that this takes place on a day of March, 1989. This is simply the time, of when this happened, but I did some more searching, looking for the place of where this happened. “All my furniture has been sold, or given away to bohemian friends.” Bohemian was a term used for people of the Western side of the Czech Republic. This was before the English word Czech was put into use. Bohemian could also mean a socially closed person, which could be people like artists or writers who are devoted to their work. There is no evidence that this character is a writer, or an artist. Even though the character in this poem is painting the room, he does not seem to be painting with passion, rather painting through sadness.</p>
<p>Going back to the location of which this poem takes place, it is also evident that this character is in a foreign country as shown here, “An immigration visa in my pocket.” After searching through an article on Wikipedia (<a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Czechoslovak_Socialist_Republic">http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Czechoslovak_Socialist_Republic</a>), I found this under the immigration area, “ It is estimated that between 1948 and 1989 close to 1 million people left communist Czechoslovakia.” This person in Kapovich’s poem probably left with everybody else. 1948 to 1989 was when the communist and planned economy of the country started to developed, which was a good reason to flee from the country. So all this evidence narrows down this took place on a March day 1989 somewhere in the western part of the Czech Republic, and he fled from his home which he had lived in for ten years because of the rising communism is the western part of the Czech Republic.</p>
