Why does the World play? Assignment

1. Create your own definition of Internationalism (small paragraph).
There are many definitions of Internationalism. Internationalism is where 2 countries, regions, ect, come together and play together. In this assignment Internationalism, means to come, or unite together and play each other. They cooperate with each other and understand their region. They play sport by doing this.

2. Create your own definition of Sporting Spirit (small paragraph).
Sporting Spirit is a very big and good thing to me. Sporting Spirit is like: e.g: If a fat man is running in a 100 meter dash and he goes slower than everyone else, people cheer on for him. I think that is like sporting spirit. It is really good to hear this.

3. What role do you think sport plays in building internationalism and spirit (small paragraph)?
Sport plays in a big part. It’s where 2 nations come together and battle. The reason of this is because, when people play against other countries they learn from the other country. It’s also good because they can learn from each others culture while they are playing which is a good thing. Soccer is a good example. E.g: Derp trips Herp on the soccer field. Derp doesn’t walk away. He instead, shows Derp his hand and Herp takes his hand and goes up. Then they might say sorry. Derp and Herp then has fun time playing soccer for the rest of the game.

4. With internationalism and sporting spirit in mind , what are some more benefits of the world coming together through sport?
The benefits of the world playing together are the money that a stadium gets. People love to watch the world play together and people would pay a lot of money to see the world play. With this happening the stadium will get rich and the culture will keep on developing throughout this process. I think it is very important to see this happen and if this keeps on happening, the world will be happy.

5. Describe an example (and show it if you like) that you have found of an international sporting event where internationalism / spirit was evident.

I chose this because I thought that it shows spirit in sport by giving 1 minute of silence by a dead coach. This is really touching for me and I wish that this will continue to happen. This is the coach of wales: Gary Speed. The coach of wales. A legend. People really started to cry because he died.

6. Do you think internationalism/spirit is the main reason why people watch sport? Why, or why not?

I think yes and no. I think yes because it is really good to hear this from 2 nations. Sporting spirit is a big part of why we watch other nations play each other. It is not a waste of time and I think that soccer has many people watching for sporting spirit. I think soccer has the most sporting spirit. I also think no because people want to cheer on for their country by being there and supporting so they watch them play and cheer for them. It is really nice when people paint there skin and put on the same colour shirt as the team colour.

7. Millions of dollars are spent on international sporting events. Do you think it is wise for a country to spend this amount of money on sport? Why why not?

I think it is wise to spend money on such sport. I think this because it makes the country more happy and the world also. Without this, sports would have a big impact with the rules they have now. With the money they spend they use it for good. But the money can also come back as well. People around the world come to watch matches against teams. To do this they need to spend money. With the money they get from the people they can use the money from them to give out more sporting events. This creates the cycle. They use the money for good use.

8. Concluding paragraph:

Why does the world play?

The world plays because they need to know each other better. They learn their culture, their experience, their rules of sports, their strength and ability with the ball. It is very important for them to play. The more stadiums they make the more people they will have. The world plays because they want to join and make new sports together. Learning from other countries can help build their economy. With playing each other you can make new friends from the world we know. I think it is amazing the way we respect countries with their sport and the way they play their sport.

9. Complete the A, C and D reflections (Give yourself a level plus one or two sentences explaining why)

Criteria A: Out of 8 I think I got a 6/8. I thought this because I have a good understanding of internationalism, sporting spirt, and so on. I thought that I had a good understanding of it and I think I know them well.

Criteria C: 5/8. I think this because I have showed very poor effort with the ball underpressure but I am still good at kicking and tackling. I think I should still improve my strength in tackling.

Criteria D: 8/8. I think I showed very good listening skills and I have always showed good concentration in class and I am always listening to what the teacher says or does.

Hi Michael,
A – 6
C – 8
D – 8
Your assignment displayed some good understanding of the concepts and whilst some more depth at times would have been helpful, I thought your initial thoughts were strong.
Michael, you are a skillful athlete, especially with a ball at your feet. I disagree with your self assessment. You showed that you operate at a level 8 for International Football. Your games sense and ball skill is very strong, along with your attitude. …and I think you should play soccer for the YIS team next year!
