Science Essay Reflection

First of all, below is my Science essay about H1N1.
H1N1

This essay explains the preferences about the terrifying disease H1N1. This essay also explains the effects to us, in different ways. This disease had an great impact politically, socially, environmentally, culturally, and in other various ways.

Although this H1N1 disease is really terrifying, it is really easy to be transmitted. First of all, the first people infected were found in Mexico City in Mexico, as well as California, and Texas located in the United States. Then, this disease quickly spread around the world, and it also reached Japan. The process of transmitting is basically the same as other flus, and colds. As mentioned, similar to colds and flus, when infected people coughs or sneezes, (even when they exhale, and talk) particles called viruses spread and flow around the air. Soon, people around will probably catch the disease by inhaling the air containing the viruses. Some symptoms are coughing hard, sneezing a lot, high fever from around 38 to 43. In some cases, it even got higher than that. Also, if the feces from your body contains or has mixed blood in it, it is one symptom of H1N1.

The scientific understanding of H1N1 gave an impact politically. After the H1N1 disease mostly stopped its invasion towards us humans, the Government modified its vaccine systems. There were 2 vaccines for the H1N1. The pre-pandemic vaccine, and the pandemic vaccine. The pre-pandemic vaccine, was the vaccine before the vaccine occurred, and the pandemic, was the vaccine which was used during the time H1N1 was spreading. The government was panicking, because the vaccines weren’t made as fast, so the Government had to set up a precedence system on people taking the vaccine. The first priority went to people who has the ability to prevent further infection and further affection to humans. The second priority was people who measured all about the disease issue, and this category included the Prime Minister. The third went people who has the ability to treat the infected people, and have a relation to medical care, as doctors, nurses, etc. From the normal citizens, first were babies and senior citizens. Then went elementary students, middle, and high. One of the last people were the adults. There were many claims on how the Government chose the priorities, so the Government changed the system on how the vaccines were made. Every year, there are diseases (flus) called 季節性インフルエンザ, meaning season diseases in English. The scientists are currently working very hard studying the similarities on the viruses, and the diseases. The new vaccines will contain advanced medical nutrients demonstrating the prevention of estimated-future diseases according to recent cases and season diseases. This disease had helped the Government to modify the system to the right thing.
This disease also affected the world socially. I will use Japan as an example. The masks ran out in all shops. This is one way of a demonstration of Japan reacting from the H1N1. (The masks ran out when the H1N1 flu was occurring) This shows how Japan was aware of the damage this disease gave to the world. It means that Japan took an action, and the people contributed on preventing the progression of damage and infection of the disease.

It is accurate that not all of the disease has ran out. It may be that there are the same disease as 2009 right now, and we always have to be aware of any diseases. From our perspective, we only know when diseases are occurring when someone is infected. Mostly it stopped in Japan, but still the rumors about pig meat is spreading somewhere in the world. These rumors include the false statement to not eat pigs and never buy pigs. I think that not only this will affect the consumers, but the farmers and people who raise pigs. Not scientific, but we have to be aware of different perspectives, and ideas of different people.

This deadly disease, H1N1, has infected more that 1,206,078 people, and has killed 9,933 people. From also Japan, 127 people has died from this awful disease. The studies of this disease may spread the awareness, and how we should react now on when these tragic diseases happen again. The scientific understanding of H1N1 can help us from now on from the experience and the examples of measures.

Also, below is my reflection for Science.
I am proud of my research skills. I think I was able to research well about the impact from the disease, how different perspectives reacted, what helped socially, politically, environmentally, and culturally. I also included brief information about the damage from this disease, and what happened after, during the disease occurred. I am also proud that I handed in my work on time. It is because in the previous project, I couldn’t hand my work in, because there was a computer error, and my assignment file disappeared.
It was difficult to show how H1N1, the disease has an impact on the world, as well as governmentally, culturally, politically, and socially. It was difficult to organize the sentence structure, and the order of putting information in.
I think this time was a better way of learning, because it was a better opportunity to expand my knowledge, as well as researching what was needed. As mentioned, this way of learning expanded my knowledge. Also, I was able to research what I wanted to know. That way, I would get better information, and find out what I wanted to create a good essay.

French Reflection

Mainly the students like soccer. It is not only for boys, but also for the girls as well. It seems like mostly everyone has a favorite soccer player themselves. Also, swimming was also popular. For example, the professional swimmer from Japan Kousuke Kitajima was famous and was a favorite swimmer to people just like me. Not much people enjoy running, but I really enjoyed Cross Country in November 10. We Japanese boys are serious baseball fans. First of all, there a 2 leagues, Central and Pacific. There are various fights going on, each other being a fan of different teams in the same league. My favorite team is Softbank Hawks, and player is Pitcher Toshiya Sugiuchi. Luckily, my favorite team is in the Pacific league, and the serious fan love Hanshin Tigers, from the Central league. It means that big conflicts do not occur. I am happy because recently in November, Softbank Hawks won the Japan Series against the Chunichi Dragons, and reached the top of Japan. Moving on, baseball was not really liked by the girls.

In cross country, I wore proper kits, and waited on the start line. Last year, my best time was 13.06, but then this year I improved to 11.51. More than 1 minute. It was really challenging, because I did my best, and achieved this time. I was constantly motivated by my friends and my rivals. Last year the friends I saw on the other side of the course (means way faster than me), were now running in front of me. I did not have interaction with the boys from Ishinomaki, because they were both 8th graders. They were really fast. I sometimes went to a Japanese public school, and the Japanese students are really fast at running. In our grade, the Ishinomaki students were both girls, Misaki and Rinka, but I didn’t talk to them. My Japanese teacher, Mr. Kashima, was complaining about how the girls were full mark in a test they participated, and how to report it to them. I learn that the Japanese people were really fast, and I, as a Japanese human, would like to improve more and more on my running.

One of Japan’s famous traditional sport, is Sumo wrestling. It is just my opinion, but I think that the current sumo is boring, because Yokozuna Hakuhou (白鵬) is always leading himself to victory. Recently, there was also a Yokozuna called Asashouryu (朝青龍), and these 2 Yokozuna’s battles were famous. In the sumo world, my fan was Asashouryu, and when he fought with Hakuhou, Ashashouryu’s motivation reached its climax, and won the matches. Currently, I wish that the weaker sumo wrestlers start growing and be a Yokozuna. Another sport is soccer. In Japan, there is one league called the J league, obviously standing for Japanese league. In Yokohama, the team is Yokohama F. Marinos, which home stadium is Yokohama Stadium, which is located in Kozukue, really close to Shinyokohama, and Kikuna. Japanese players are getting really strong, and one SB (Sideback, wing defender) called Yuto Nagatomo went to the famous soccer team Inter, in Italy. Inter is a very famous soccer team which is made by the key players from different countries. The name Inter is for International. The last sport is baseball. Baseball was brought to Japan in 1872, from the United States, by Horace Wilson. As mentioned, there are 2 leagues, Central and Pacific. Each league contains 6 teams, with a total of 12. Below is a list.Central league: Chunichi Dragons, Yakult Swallows, Yomiuri Giants, Hanshin Tigers, Hiroshima Toyo Carps, and DeNA Yokohama Baystars.Pacific league: Softbank Hawks, Nippon Ham Fighters, Seibu Lions, Orix Buffaloes, Rakuten Eagles, and Lotte Marines. In this school, Nippon Ham Fighters, Yomiuri Giants, and Hanshin Tigers is the most famous baseball teams, and there are lots of fans from the following teams in the school. Although, I like Softbank Hawks, this year’s most valuable and powerful team is Japan.

I think I work well at home. I think I really did a good job on remembering vocabulary, and working on the actual french phrases and sentences. I think I needed to improve on organizing work, as well as changing my attitudes towards the subject.

Drama Speech Mini Reflection

First of all, above is a group of students in a video performing each other’s speeches. These speeches were taken by Mr. Curkovic.

When I reflect back on my speech, I think my hook was appropriate. I asked a question about the iPhone, and I remember people staring at me when I asked the question. I think my strength there was my tone of voice, and how I started off the speech. It was only temporary, but my tone of voice was clear until the last part. I think I started off the speech well. I consider that the beginning is the most important part in a speech, because the beginning sets the mood and the atmosphere. I think my weakness was that I lost concentration towards the end of my speech. I lost my words, and eventually had the worst conclusion. Even though I didn’t do a good job on this speech, I always start off a speech well. I don’t want to pat myself on the back or criticize myself, so I will attempt harder on the actual speech. Although I was really nervous when I performed and I failed in this speech, I think this opportunity to practice performing a speech was a great idea. From this, I have gained a lot of experience, learned various techniques. A lot of speeches inspired me to talk with more enthusiasm, except for when I am not talking about a fun speech. The actual reason why I lost my words was because my idea was too small.

Overall, I can improve further more in my speech techniques by having a larger idea, and talking more about a topic.
