Activity  6

How would you react to Mathieu and Isabelle’s suggestions for the weekend? Which would you choose to do? Why? Compare your answers with a partner’s.

First of all I would be tired of having a conversation like this. I would just agree on Mathieu, and go to the zoo. We would be probably going, because there is a majority that we would be going to the zoo, because Mathieu and both agree. Well it depends whether Isabelle agrees/disagrees.

“Make your Mark” reflection

Unit Question: How can we communicate visually?

Significant concept: Line can be used to convey shape, texture and tone.

In our Unit, “Make your mark”, we have been doing line drawing. We were introduced on the techniques of a famous drawer Vincent Van Gogh. Our assignment in the unit, was to do a line drawing, divided with fore, mid, and background. My drawing has a mountain (mountains) in the background, the ocean and a boat in the middle ground, and sand in the fore ground. I used a black marker (sharpie and prockey) to complete my drawing/project. I used 3 pictures of my Ishigakijima trip that were actually used in the drawing. I also looked at the website Mr. Mc Crory provided us about the

I have shown good progress by definitely improving on my artistic skills. The main reason, was that I gained more understanding towards line drawing, and Vincent Van Gogh’s techniques. My first drawing had no techniques, and was gradated too dark, but currently I am able to create a perspective in the line drawing. I also used techniques as cross hatching to create shades and reality.

I think that I should improve on specific skills. For example, my sand (in the foreground) was far too simple, compared to professional line drawers (real drawers as Van Gogh). I think that I should have researched and should have found the most necessary techniques. Also in the mountain (background), some areas looked non-real, because I have not used the most necessary techniques in my drawing.

I truly think, research, and learning from neighbors, is effective strategies to develop and improve your artistic processes. Your neighbors might have very interesting techniques, so you will be able to learn from their various techniques and from their compositions. Also, for me, I definitely think that learning from famous artist from research is one strategy we can develop and improve our artistic skills. I also think time management. Trying really hard, and managing time on a technique (for ex.) is very important to develop artistic skills. From this, another good idea or strategy might pop up from your head, and you might be able to make your own technique.

In conclusion, I have learned a lot about line drawing, and the various techniques. I have also learned the techniques of an artist Vincent Van Gogh, applied it to my own drawing. I should have planned more specifically to identify all the objects I would put in my drawing.

Science Reflection

In Science, we have been doing a experiment (project) called “Investigating Mining”. I am going to write a reflection based on the progress I have accomplished in my actual project.

  • Which parts of criteria D and E were you most successful at demonstrating in the assessment?
For D, I was successful on warning the people who do the experiment to wear safety goggles when necessary. Also, I have listed the procedure properly, that people can understand. For E, I have created a good pie chart to clearly show the results and the differences of the number of elements present.
  • Which parts could you have improved on?
I think that I could have improved on D, where I should have improved my procedure by listing where you should put your goggles on, because some people might put their goggles on for the whole experiment. For E, I should have listed the measurements for the procedure.

Humanities Progress Reflection

What is your project?

First of all, my group-mates are Yongy, Leo, and Shin. We are creating a video in Final Cut Pro X, about Child Labor. So basically, we are creating a movie about Child Labor, and scenarios in factories. This movie is a message for the parents, to prevent parents sending their children to factories. We are including, humor, as well as horror themes.

Why did you choose it?

It is because we wanted to tell parents (originally to parents, but 7C) why they shouldn’t send their children to Factories. We wanted to give an understanding for the audience that Child Labor is very cruel. We also wanted people to know about how children are treated, and some predicted situation that can happen if a children is sent to a factory.

What stage are you at? What do you still need to do?

We are almost done. I think our Final cut movie is in very high-quality, so we just need a few modifications on volume, for ex. Also, exporting takes a lot of time, so I think that we need to complete our project and if we are satisfied, we should export the video.

Anything difficult about your project?

There is one thing that was very challenging and difficult. It is, giving the understanding of child labor, with eye-catching performance. We used humor, and horror. Actually horror is used for the cruelty and murdering (situations in factories). Humor is mostly used in the scenes. I think we did successfully explained the cruelty of Child Labor.

Do you think your project will be effective?

Yes, truly. It is because there is a deep thought although there are humor. Also, obviously, humor.  I think we used a good amount of humor to make the movie effective.

Include screenshot or visual of what you have accomplished.

Reflection on Book Trailer Criteria

1. How many criteria do you think it is useful to have?  Why?  Can you have too many or too few?

5 to 7. If there were too few, you would not be able to cover the elements of a good trailer. If too much, it will be too challenging.

2. Which of the criteria the class came up with do you think is the most important?  Why?

The trailer has to persuade the audience to read the actual book.

It is because the trailer is a persuasion for the audience to read the book. This is supposed to be the main job for a trailer.

3. Do you feel that the class left out any really important criteria? What ones?

I don’t think anything is left. It is because, it covers description, persuasion, pictures, clips. It is basically the important things we need for a trailer.

4. Do you think the process we used (research, small group agreement, then whole class agreement) is a good way to develop criteria – why or why not?

Yes. It is because we have a lot of agreement, and we are able to justify our answer.

Goals

Learner Profile: Reflective

There are various ways I can improve on the learner profile “Reflective”. First of all, I am actually confident on writing reflections. Usually, we answer the questions assigned from the teacher,  and form a reflection with the answer. When I think “reflective”, its not that easy to answer with just some questions, as “what can you improve on” or what are your strengths and weaknesses”. Being “reflective”, is thinking about what you have been doing, and your opinions and thoughts about your progress. I, have been just answering questions, and have been typing up reflections. I think I have to think about my progress, and what I have done personally. What was something I could definitely work on? What can I do to improve this skills and that skills? I always have to think what I have done, and reflect.

Value: We shall be responsible in our actions.

I think being responsible, is very challenging for me, as a student. I truly think I have to improve on my responsibility. For example, if I forget my homework, I will have to take responsibility, and keep in mind, that I forgot my homework, and forgetting again is totally inappropriate. Also for instance, if I injured someone in a game of basketball, I would have to leave the game for a while and make sure the injured person is okay. If he is, I will apologize, and join the game again. If he is not okay, I have a responsibility to take him/her to the nurse, and wait until the injury is cured. This example also includes sporting spirit. For example in soccer, if one player trips another, he/she will give their hand to the injured player, and pull him/her up. Also, when someone is injured, a player with sporting spirit will kick the ball out, and let the injured player’s team start to throw in the ball.
