Script for “Global Warming Skit”

First of all, James is the son, who always wastes stuff and gives an contribution to global warming.

I, Keigo is the father of James.

Skit

James - Hey, whats up, dad! (slap)

Keigo – HEY, SON. WHAT ARE YOU HERE FOR TODAY? (big slap)

James – I came here today with my brand new cherry red Ferrari!

Keigo – It seems like you’re the only one who has a car comparing to your friends.

James – No. My friend Yongy Pongy (Yong Won) rides a blue Lamborghini, and my best friend Masaki rides an old station wagon!

Keigo – Wish Masaki good luck for getting a better car.

James – Hey dad, so I’m going to Las Vegas to gamble today. I’m going to drive with my awesome Ferrari!

Keigo – What are you thinking! We’re in Miami! That’s going to release so much CO2 from your car! You’re sure a big contribution to the progression to Global Warming.

James – Idc… It’s my time to shine. I’m going to show off my awesome to the world.

Keigo – No, your not even awesome. You’re just an spoiled old rat. Plus, I’m the Kung-fu Panda, so I’m way popular than you.

James – OKAY, STOP. So then how do I stop being the progression to Global Warming!

Keigo – Well first of all, your friends have cars that waste a lot of gas, so carpool. It’s common sense. Which is better, a car releasing gas, or 3 cars releasing cars in the same time.

James – Only one car.

Keigo – Yes, so riding with your friends will definitely decrease the gas going up the air. Second, you are such a heavy smoker, so stop smoking.

James – No, I’m not! I only smoke 50 cigarettes a day!

Keigo – That’s a lot. Stop smoking.

James – Fine..

The top 3 questions about climate change

1. What causes global warming and climate change the most?

2. Eventually, how do we end up like when the climate change and global warming reaches its climax?

3. If the Earth is in real danger, do we have any other planets or places in the universe to live in?

Digital Citizenship Week

This week, we had a week called “Digital Citizenship Week”. The purpose was to review and learn how we handle technology, such as our computers, especially because YIS is currently in the One-to-one program. Also, being balanced and spending your time non-electronically as well. In the week, first we estimated the amount of hours the 7th Grade and the whole MS spends on their electronic devices for 3 days. We watched a video in English class about the use of electronic devices, which is embedded on the bottom of the blog post. We had a activity with Mr. Clark, which was to choose one person who you thought was balanced, in terms of managing time well. I chose my friend Kento, because first of all even though he is a genius in technology, he is also very athletic. He can judge if it is the right time to play outside and play sports, or to play inside to enjoy games and do something on the computer.

Overall, for me this week was very effective. It is because I was able to understand that I was unbalanced. Now I think I know a little more about managing time, and how to stay more balanced than usual.

Humanities Progress Reflection

What is your project?

First of all, my group-mates are Yongy, Leo, and Shin. We are creating a video in Final Cut Pro X, about Child Labor. So basically, we are creating a movie about Child Labor, and scenarios in factories. This movie is a message for the parents, to prevent parents sending their children to factories. We are including, humor, as well as horror themes.

Why did you choose it?

It is because we wanted to tell parents (originally to parents, but 7C) why they shouldn’t send their children to Factories. We wanted to give an understanding for the audience that Child Labor is very cruel. We also wanted people to know about how children are treated, and some predicted situation that can happen if a children is sent to a factory.

What stage are you at? What do you still need to do?

We are almost done. I think our Final cut movie is in very high-quality, so we just need a few modifications on volume, for ex. Also, exporting takes a lot of time, so I think that we need to complete our project and if we are satisfied, we should export the video.

Anything difficult about your project?

There is one thing that was very challenging and difficult. It is, giving the understanding of child labor, with eye-catching performance. We used humor, and horror. Actually horror is used for the cruelty and murdering (situations in factories). Humor is mostly used in the scenes. I think we did successfully explained the cruelty of Child Labor.

Do you think your project will be effective?

Yes, truly. It is because there is a deep thought although there are humor. Also, obviously, humor.  I think we used a good amount of humor to make the movie effective.

Child Labor Speech Reflection

Part I

    • What would you improve about your presentation?
  • I think that the questions were too repetitive. I would improve on varying the types of questions. My questions often lead to answers that were very similar. If I would include various types of questions, the witness would provide different answers and facts that can be a contribution for winning the court.
    • Would you ask any other questions or bring up any other arguments?
  • I don’t think so. The amount of questions were enough, but the problem was that there were not enough variations of questions. As mentioned, if I add some variations, I would be a good lawyer.
    • When you watch the video, do you think you were persuasive? Why were you able to persuade the audience (language, tone, evidence?)
  • I think my tone was very persuasive. Michael included a lot of evidence in his speech (answers). He also was able to tell how factory owner think, and their situations. I talked in an effective tone, as mentioned before.
    • Please include a link to at least two of the primary sources you used to get your evidence. What do you think was the advantage of using primary sources? (sources written at the time of the Industrial Revoltion).
  • Part II:
    • In 2-3 sentences explain the argument for child labor in the Industrial Revolution.
  • Children would have free education, and very rare education as operating machines. Children are able to climb chimneys and go in very complicated spaces in mines. Also, children would be able to have food, which their family cannot provide.
    • In 2-3 sentences explain the argument against child labor in the Industrial Revolution
  • Factory workers do not treat children very well, and care about them. Poor standards of hygiene, lack of proper education, and harsh treatment is a large problem in child labor. Because of machines, children have been injured.
    • Do you think England would have industrialized as quickly without child labor? Why or or why not?
  • I definitely think that England would not have industrialized as quickly without child labor. There are various reasons to this statement. First of all, children are very obedient, so there were rarely children fighting against, so this was one advantage for factories to maintain their workers. Not every factories were rich, so cheap children had to be used for the maintenance of workers. As mentioned before, children is very useful. Using their small hands and bodies, there are able to climb chimneys and very complicated spaces in mines. To have money and carry on the number of workers, children was very important. Without children, England would not have industrialized quickly.

Child Labor Debate Mini-Reflection

First of all, if you do not understand what I am going to talk about, I would like to explain what I will type a reflection on. We have been studying about the time in the Industrial Revolution, in Humanities class. We have also studied about child labor occurring during the Industrial Revolution. Now this assignment, was a debate. It was a judge, whether child labor should be allowed, or it should not. I was a lawyer of Henry Jones (Michael), a doctor, who has an idea of  allowing child labor.

  • I truly think that Michael and I collaborated very well, and made a good progress on the debate. In the research, I provided various ideas, from my understanding, knowledge, and some research. We were able to create a good witness and lawyer, who wants child labor being allowed.
  • I think that when we were speaking, we used a range of tones, and were able to appeal our ideas. We used eye-contact to clearly deliver information, and talk what we want to say.
  • As a lawyer, I think that I acted very well asking questions to the witness. I have prepared specific question to the witness, and the questions made the witness answer specifically with detail, as it covered the question.
  • Overall, as a lawyer, I think I did a good job in the debate. I was able to increase my understanding towards Industrial Revolution, and child labor. Also by listening to other witnesses and lawyer, I was able to understand different point of views and how there are different thoughts.

Man or Machine?

Man or Machine?

It depends.

For Machine – They can complete jobs and tasks in various conditions such as in fire. One example is that little robots are working near the nuclear plants and are moving things from dangerous parts to safe places.

For Man – Although machines are very smart and rapid, humans are the one who created those machines, so it means that humans are smarter than the machines. Humans have to the creativity to create things such as artworks, as well as the machines. Although machines have no feelings, humans can express their feelings to tell something. Humans have the power to think, and if something does not work, they will try to think of a new idea. Robots will just try the same thing. Machines continuously have to use electricity, and sometimes it is a total waste of electricity which is one kind of finite resources. For example, when calculating, when machines use a lot of electricity, humans would be probably using paper and pencil.

List all the machines you have used in the last 24 hours.

Computer, Television, Wii, Refrigerator, iPhone, iPod Touch, lights, Wireless network, pencil sharpener, heater

Is art more or less important than machines?  Explain your answer.

It depends. Art shows creativity and it is a symbol of the creativity and ideas of humans. Machines are made to do jobs and complete tasks faster than humans, and complete jobs that are dangerous for humans to complete.

Chose the top 3 machines that you couldn’t live without.  Justify your answer.

1.Computer

Computer is needed for educational purposes and for network-interactions such as mail. In school we have to use computers to complete tasks and create things on the computer.

2.iPhone

Not necessarily iPhone, but phones are very important in my life. Phones are useful to contact with friends to notify them. (to Skype or to go to somewhere) A phone is really useful to tell where you are and whether you are safe or not. (to your family etc.)

3.Lights

Lights are really important, because they “light” the dark and make somewhere bright. Light have to be on because if you have no lights, you would not be able to see well, and for instance trip over something. So lights are really important to increase eye-sight.

List three jobs that are done by machines that used to be done by humans.

1. Complicated math/calculation

Computers now calculate very complicated math and calculation. Japan recently made a Super Computer (2011, I believe), with the name Kei (京). Kei is a term in numbers and one Kei is equaled with “one trillion multiplied by 10,000″. This name was given to the Super Computer because to Japanese people it really sounds that Kei is really fast. (It can calculate a Kei per second)

2. Laundry

Currently, a washer is supposed to be naturally there in your home. Well long time ago, in Japan, people used a product called Sentakuita, which is a wooden board to do laundry. You were supposed to rub the clothes etc. with the board. According to some people nearby me, the current detergents were soaps before. There was one method where people smash rice and make the rice sticky, and make it like soap. But this idea was not very appreciated because it was a waste of food.

3. Train Stations

Some people buy tickets, but usually we have PASMOs or SUICAs or whatever.. Before train officers had to punch a hole into each little ticket. Now, the machines are very useful to go through the gates fast.

What do you think life would be like working in a factory in a developed nation (ex. Japan/US/UK)?

Lots of factory use machines in their process of making products etc. So probably a better job in a factory should be watching, or thinking about the products and making ideas. So life would be pretty boring or simple to me.

What do you think life would be like working in a factory in a developing country (ex. Mexico, Indonesia, Sri Lanka)

Still developing countries should be making products etc. handmade, so it might be a good opportunity for me to make something. Though I might stick to the problem being bored repeating one process.

What are the advantages of using machines?

The advantages, are that for example humans do not have to do hard work to complete something, because machines can complete various tasks way faster than humans. Also, using machines might bring up a new idea of making something, and something better might be created. So it means machines might help humans have thoughts.

What are the disadvantages of using machines?

As mentioned before, machines use an awful lot of electricity. Not everything uses electricity for humans, but anything uses electricity for machines. For this, new long-life batteries are made, as well as solar panels that create electricity.

Empires Unit Reflection

How do historical empires effect us today?
Empires effect us in lots of ways including language, religion of countries, cultures, land, rule and nationalism.
For instance, in Hong Kong, they use British spellings. (English) This is because, as shown above in the presentation Leo and I made, when the British took over Hong Kong, the british type of English was used, so Hong Kong learned it.
One effect is trade. In different countries, you find different types of restaurants. For example, in Japan, in Motomachi, there is a China Town. Also, in Japan, dishes as noodles and gyoza are really famous. These food all came from China. Special fact: The first person who ate Ramen in Japan is Mitsukuni Mito, who was the leader of the Mito clan. Currently, food from different countries are eaten in Japan. This an example of trade and culture exchange.
