This is my voicethread presentation about the guitar amplifier. This covers the social cultural effects and problems of the  amplifier. I commented using my voice, and there are works cited at the end.

Science element poster

April 20, 2012

My poster showed the one world criterion well because it showed popular uses for samarium that most people know about such as iPods, headphones and guitar pickups. I incorporated pictures to show a visual component of the applications of samarium.

It also shows the communication criterion well because I only put information that was asked for on the instruction sheet, so that I would get a good grade.

Here is a photograph of my poster project

This project we drew 2 drawings of the same landscape except in different time periods: Pre and Post industrial revolution, on 2 a3 pieces of paper

I enjoyed drawing the bridge, because I needed to look at other photos of steel bridges to get an idea of what to do. I done the after industrial revolution, and Axel did the pre industrial revolution drawing. Next time, I would make the post industrial revolution drawing more polluted, because all the factories made everywhere darker, also change the species of moths to adapt to the pollution. Another important thing which would make the drawing more appealing would be using a wider variety of tone, and perhaps adding some color.
Some advantages of living in post industrial revolution would be that you get to see more sports like football games, becuase of the more advanced transportation. Also there would be faster postal service, so if you are rich, life would be a lot better.
However, there are major drawbacks. The most worst would be pollution and child labor. If you are poor, life would be really hard, and you would probably die of disease or starvation. Schools would be really strict, and there would be a cane for punishment.
Before the industrial revolution, everything was simpler, cleaner, and friendlier. Schools were the same, but industries were cottage run, and children didnt work. If was a child, I would far prefer pre industrial revolution life.
Drawbacks of pre indusrial revolution life would be: Not so much technology, and life would be very hard if you were the working class.

Storytelling reflection

April 13, 2012

I performed a variety of different characters, such as an old man, a monkey, and an oni. I switched between characters by coming off the stage or turning my back to the audience. I also done some narration.

Some difficulties were switching characters and writing the script. We overcame the switching characters problem by arranging the parts our members had to make the switching as easy it could be.

Some achievements were using the oni mask to show that you were an oni, and our performance was really successful, apart from forgeting 1 part, I was really good at performing this skit.

I think our group and the group performing Old Gwiylm and the fairies was really good, because it had really good acting, and they had almost no mistakes. They involved the audience well, and used the stage space and props well

I had a hard time getting the voice of the grandpa, and it was a bit easier to do the posture.

We used the stage space well, and also our props were limited, but we were resourceful, and we coped well.

We had blend of narration and acting, which entranced the audience, especially when Aiki said “back” in responce to answering the question “where is the treasure” at 4:25 on the video embedded below

7A Drama: Storytelling Performance from YIS Arts on Vimeo.

1. I was successful at demonstrating that I was thoughtful for writing the procedure, it had lots of steps and also included safety instructions such as wearing safety goggles.

2. I should’ve made my pie chart 2D, because I have now realized that 3D is hard to process the data. I didnt list the resources that I needed, which is one of the factors that lowered my grade. I didnt completely explain my conclusion, like explaining fully why something would happen.

In art this unit, we have been focusing on line drawings, the unit question was “How can we communicate visually?”, and the significant concept was”lines can be used to convey shape, texture and tone.” For my summative line drawing, in the background there was sky and mountains, the middle ground there is water with a kayaker in the center, and lastly in the foreground there is the shore of the lake, with rocks and sand. There are three parts of the picture were from 3 different photos, and I photoshopped them into an original photo. The pictures were from our field studies trip in october. The kayaker was a separate layer, on top of the mid ground.

Through this assessment, I have learnt about my weaknesses and strengths. I need to improve on making the drawings look 3D, by using lines to show the shape of the object. I also need to work on stippling evenly, so there is more gradation, and varying the size of the dots. I also need to practice making the paper springs well, so they stay straight and not distort the shape.

However, looking back at my first line drawing which is below this paragraph, I can easily see my improvement over this unit. Various improvements have been the quality of the cross-hatching, so it looks less like it has been scribbled, also the proportions have became better, by practicing a  lot and observing, so it looks more realistic, because the sizes of different objects in the background and foreground look better proportioned.

This is the original photo of the first line drawing I done this unit in art. If you click on the pictures, it will be bigger and easier to see.

For the sky, I used a ruler to make the straight lines, then using broken lines, to show where the clouds were. For the trees, I used scumbling to show that they were trees, then I stippled the really dark part near the water. For the water I also used broken lines, but I made them more shaky so they didnt look to similar to the sky, and also I made the lines closer together the farther in to the background the water goes. I had trouble deciding what technique to use for the shore in the fore ground, and I decided to use stippling to show the gradation, gradually making it darker as it went to the left. At home, I drew the kayak using stippling and hatching. It was very dark, but I think it looked good against the lighter water.

To develop my artistic skills, I need to draw more often, and draw objects by slowing down, so I practice observing and my patience. I tend to rush when drawing, which I was trying hard not to in this assessment, and I will continue to try in the future. I should also take more time experimenting with the techniques and practicing on simpler drawings, so I will have more line techniques to choose from when making the actual picture.  I think that because  I done the line drawings critisism by Van Gogh and Dürer, ( In my red book), I had a lot better understanding of the techniques that the professional artists use, so when I am doing this again, in the future, it would be good to do a miniature version of it.

semester 2 Goals

March 7, 2012

I need to work on being principled because I need to be more organized and not hand in work that is ripped, etc.

I also need to work on being principled, I will improve this by handing in the homework and assessments on time in  class and spending more time doing homework.

I need to be responsible in my actions, which means that I do homework and assessments on time with out rushing them. And also not kick balls too high at recess, because they are often going over the wall.

My Drama Assessments

Mime 7A Mimes from YIS Academics on Vimeo.   I have done well on these assessments, except for the 1 minute speech, they were well prepared.   http://www.readbookonline.net/readOnLine/5701/ Here is a link to a Welsh folk tale. A folk story is a traditional story that is regional unique. Legend is something that could be true, and a myth is something to explain the unexplainable, most made by ancient civilitations.

THE CRAIG-Y-DON BLACKSMITH.
Once upon a time an old blacksmith lived in an old forge at
Craig-y-don, and he used to drink a great deal too much beer.
One night he was coming home from an alehouse very tipsy, and as he got near a small stream a lot of little men suddenly sprang up from the rocks, and one of them, who seemed to be older than the rest, came up to him, and said,
“If you don’t alter your ways of living you’ll die soon; but if you behave better and become a better man you’ll find it will be to your benefit,” and they all disappeared as quickly as they had come.
The old blacksmith thought a good deal about what the fairies had told him, and he left off drinking, and became a sober, steady man.
One day, a few months after meeting the little people, a strange man brought a horse to be shod. Nobody knew either the horse or the man.
The old blacksmith tied the horse to a hole in the lip of a cauldron (used for the purpose of cooling his hot iron) that he had built in some masonry.
When he had tied the horse up he went to shoe the off hind-leg, but directly he touched the horse the spirited animal started back with a bound, and dragged the cauldron from the masonry, and then it broke the halter and ran away out of the forge, and was never seen again: neither the horse nor its master.
When the old blacksmith came to pull down the masonry to rebuild it, he found three brass kettles full of money.

1.  Which applications do you think will be best to create a trailer?  Why?
Personally, I would iMovie, because I am used to it, and advanced controls gives one lots more options when making movies.
2.  Which applications do you think will be the least useful for creating a book trailer?  Why?
I think that keynote would be bad, because its is a presentation app, not specifically to make movies.
3.  Do you already feel confident about using the application?  If not how much will you need to learn?
I feel really confident about iMovie, I have made lots of bass and guitar covers on there so I know lots about making movies with imovie.
4.  Do you think it makes more sense to choose an application and then start designing, or to design your trailer first and then choose an application to make it?  Explain.

I think its is better to choose an app first, so you know the limitations that the app has
