Which game(s) did I watch?
5. Choose one of the following to explain in detail: Knock on, Offside, Scrum, Line Out or Hooker.
A hooker throws the ball in the lineout and is positioned in between the 2 props. The name comes from when the ball is in the scrum the hooker uses his foot to “hook” the ball into their teams posession
6. In brief (no more than 4 sentences), explain where Rugby Union originated and how a pacific island nation came upon it.
The first rugby game was in England on a school field. The first international game was played between England and Wales in1871. The pacific nations were first introduced when British army men played it there, similar to Cricket in India.
7. What examples of Internationalism are evident throughout the RWC?
The haka performed by some pacific nations is an example of internationalism becuase Nations are sharing their cultures. Also when players shake hands and compliment eachother at the end of a game is good because the players put aside thier cultral differences.
8. Identify an occasion in the RWC where an opportunity to learn about another culture was evident.
The opening ceremony when the haka was performed is an example becuase people would learn about the Maori culture through the haka.
9. Give evidence of an occasion in the RWC where two or more communities have come together in good spirit?
The teams often shake hands after a game and also teams go and look around new zealand and learn about the culture sometimes
10. Millions of dollars are spent on this event. Do you think it was money well spent? Yes/No, Why/Why Not
I think it is bad becuase there was a big earthquake in new zealand and the money should be used for relief efforts.

Hi Thomas,
Whilst I couldn’t find your SELF ASSESSMENT, I thought your answers to the questions were very good. You showed a good understanding and added extra information that was appropriate. I liked your thoughts on the latter few questions. You explained yourself well. Here is a question for you: Do you think that the money generated from hosting the RWC helped the victims of the earthquake? Do you think the ‘spirit’ and positive energy generated helped the victims?
Well done on a good assignment and approach to PE.
