Town Through Time Reflection

April27

My Poster

What did you enjoy about this project, and what do you think was a success?

In this project I enjoyed drawing the street, instead of having to write an essay or a writing piece. I think that Katie’s drawing was a success in this project.

On the other hand, what would you like to do differently or what do you think could be improved somehow?

I think I could have made my annotations much more detailed and I could have had a paragraph or so as annotations. I think that this would have added more information to my annotations and made them better.

How did you contribute to the group?

In my group I drew the poster and came up with the annotations for before the industrial revolution. Katie did the work for after the industrial revolution. We split the work equally and we helped each other with our posters and annotations.

What would be some of the major advantages and disadvantages of living in each time period?

Before the industrial revolution life was probably very hard because you had to do all your work at home but there wasn’t a lot of pay. But if you lived then you would not have to commute to far away jobs or school, because you would learn and work at home. After the revolution there would be a lot of pollution and and you might get sick more often. Before the revolution there wasn’t a lot of pollution but there was not the modern medicine that they had after the revolution

Then – which time period would you personally choose to live in, and why?

I would choose to live after the revolution because of all the new technology and fun things that we have in this time period. Living after the revolution is easier because inventions help make your life muh easier. Before the revolution there was not a lot of fun things to do in your life and you would just have to sit at home and work. After the revolution there are more things to do and you can go to school and learn and do things other than a boring job that you don’t want to do.

What are some ways these maps would have been the same or been different if they showed your own country

Our poster showed America which is where I come from, but if our map showed Japan it would have looked very different. Before the revolution the buildings would have very different designs and they would have different types of clothes and different customs. After the revolution many things would be the same because people traveled more often so the cultures would have mixed together a bit. Some cultures would stay intact but the societies would shift to being more european.

Child Labor Debate Reflection

February27

Child Labor Debate
In Humanities we just had a Child Labor Debate where we acted as people debating for and against child labor. I was the Lawyer for Sam Washington who was a factory owner that was for child labor.

In our performance I think I could have improved by speaking a bit louder and looking up instead of looking at the paper the whole time. One thing that I am proud of was that my questions were very good and they were very detailed and they helped prove child labor isn’t harmful and is good. If I were on the other side I would ask Haakon and myself if the kids in his factory got a good education while working.

Should child labor be allowed?

Some reasons child labor should be allowed would be that the kids can do things that adults can’t and are highly valued in the factory.   Children also have nothing to do and will learn to become lazy and will have no life skills when they grow up.  Children are also not forced to work and it is their families choice to send them to work or not.  Children will then get money and will be able to support their families to that they can get food and live normally. There are also some reasons that child labor should be banned.  Children can get deformities in their bones and children can also miss out on playing fun games and being a kid.  Children can also get some injuries that could be very painful.  I still think that child labor is a good thing as long as kids are not forced to work.  Children can be very useful in factories and the incidents mentioned before only happen sometimes and rarely do children get seriously injured.

How does my personal opinion differ from my characters?

I personally think that child labor is very bad and can cause many damages to children’s bodies.  I also think that the machines are very dangerous and children should not work around them.  My character thinks that child labor is good and children rarely get injuries. They also think that it is better than working at home. I think that it is better to work at home because then you are in a much healthier environment and people will be watching out for you so that you don’t get hurt. Overall I think my opinion is very different from my character’s opinion.
