A historian is a person that has studied history immensely. Usually focusing on a certain period, place, social, cultural, aspect of history. History being such a general word in my opinion I think it would be nearly impossible to study every part in full detail. By being a historian you have to research a lot of articles, witnesses, and many other things to develop a set of good information. It is really hard for a historian to gather information from something really old. Historians have to rely on other sources to get information. During this unit on historians I have briefly looked at a variety off different aspects of history. Theses include: political history, diplomatic history, social history, cultural history, economic history, and intellectual history.
In class we were to act like historians and research 3 generations of our family. 1 being a grandparents, 2 being a parent, and 3 being yourself. We created a questionare, the questions had to be helpful to describe what the daily life of a 13-14 year old in there generation would do. The challenges were putting everything together in the end result. Seeing how best I could put together my project. It took quite a while, trying 3 different software till finding the best. By doing this project I was trying to communicate to people that our daily lives have changed so much compared to our parents and grandparents. Even the gap between our parents and grandparents have shown great improvement in technology, education, and more.
With all this new technology that we have been introduced to in the 21st century it makes history a lot easy to research and to be remembered. Most likely if you wanted to find something you would just search it on the internet. It makes it easier to access the past and find information. History is constantly being created and history is constantly changing. After this unit I wasn’t even doing half of what a historian does, but I found it quite a challenge.
Here is my presentation:

What is your project:
To get Tumblr, Facebook, and Twitter to help us donate to anti-slavery.
We are also making digital posters
Why did you choose it:
Because it will help the organization and it will also make people in general more aware of child labour.
What stage are you at? What do you still need to do?
We have made drafts of the emails and we are making a poster to put up on the internet
Anything difficult about your project?
Getting tumblr, Facebook, and twitter, to agree to donating to anti-slavery
Include screenshot or visual of what you have accomplished.

Over the past few weeks Hye-Won and I have been working on a project where we have to support child labor. We have developed a script and have presented it to our class. I think I could have done a lot more to improve my speech. I thought that I could have written more facts that could support child labor. I thought that most of the ideas that I contributed were not used, and when I had something to add it was not really considered or used. I thought a lot of our facts could be contradicted, and I thought some of the facts we had could actually be used against child labor. I think that I would bring up the fact that the children in the factories are usually sent their by their parents because they don’t have enough money to afford education and food. Though the children are treated with abuse, they still get something out of it. They still learn from it. I thought that my tone was sort of mono tone. It didn’t have an emotional tone to it. I thought that I could have done a lot better with that. Though we did have a few pieces of evidence I felt that my performance was not as good as it could have been.
During the process of finding information I used http://www2.needham.k12.ma.us/nhs/cur/Baker_00/2002_p7/ak_p7/childlabor.html
and
http://www.clemson.edu/caah/history/FacultyPages/PamMack/lec122/britir.htm
(Hye-Won also used sites in Koren…but I couldn’t understand them…so these are the english ones)
My argument was supporting child labor. Child labor is good in a way. Children were a lot better at working and they had a lot more energy than adults. Children were cheaper than adults and they made a good effort at what they did. No, I don’t think they would have. I think that the children had a big influence on child labor. Children created the inventions and kept everything running. The children of the industrial revolution were a huge influence and they should take most of the credit.

When someone comes up with an idea they are per sued to make it real. In the industrial revolution there were many people that came up with ideas on how to improve their daily life style. In the industrial revolution there were many inventions, most of them were thought of after someone else had thought of something. Their inventions were usually improvements or something higher scale compared to the original idea. A person doesn’t just have to have an invention to change the world it could also be a theory, like the theory of revolution by Charles Darwin, or the theory of knowledge by Albert Einstein. These theories only changed the world because they were supported by facts. I think anyone can change the world really, but you need to have a big idea and it needs to be supported by facts and create able.

How do empires affect us today?
Even though it was a long time ago empires still have a big impact on us. If there were no empires there probably wouldn’t be a big Indian population and England. Curry probably wouldn’t be one of England’s national food! These aspects still probably apply to different countries. If empires didn’t conflict or try to colonize other countries there would be a huge historical difference. There probably would be different religions than there are now, Christianity probably wouldn’t be the 3rd largest religion in India. Also the language, the more countries the empires colonize the more their language spreads. For an example the British, they colonized so much of the worlds population that Lingua Franca of the world is English. The reason most of the empires left the countries they colonized is because they ran out of the resources they want, because they don’t have enough money to supply the country, which usually leads to a decline for the colonized country, or they were driven out by the country because they want independence. This is how empires affect us today.

When another country takes control of another country, there are a lot of changes for both sides (The colony and the colonizer.) Usually there is more change for the colony than the colonizer. The colonizer can adopt any of the countries culture to it’s own. For an example the British, when the British concurred India they adopted their food, Curry, now curry is one of there foods.
The advantages for the empire is that they can have bigger land, more military etc… When you have all these things you can pose as a threat to other empires which would lower the chances of being over taken by a civilization. The disadvantage of being an Empire you have to always be moving around, traveling, trying to find a new country to take over. You have to always have your army prepared to attack and concur different countries.
The disadvantages of being a colony is that you are controlled by a different country and you have to give up some of your practices and religious beliefs to the other country, and adopted a different culture and religion. The advantages of being a colony is that your civilization might be more rich and better fead than before the Empire took over your country.

Global Awareness
This is a project in humanities that Marii and I completed. The assignment was that we were to choose and complete 2 out of the 5 topics to write about. Marii choose change, and I choose global awareness. We each had to choose one of the bullet points to write about, I choose; A globally aware person is someone that respects cultures and is open-minded about the people around them. Marii choose; Change can make the world better, but in some ways can make it suffer. This is our project and I hope you enjoy.

In the last 3 weeks our family have been trying to gather information so we can tell if it is safe in Japan or not. We have mostly been watching the News on TV (CNN, BBC and NHK.) We have gathered that the situation is not stable, but we still receive information that makes the situation worse or better. We have heard that it might take 3 months to get the Nuclear plant stable. Our family is still worried about weather the radiation could get in our food. So our family is still worried about the situation. We would really like more information about Japan, which we fell we are not getting.
Our family was using the news to see how serious the situation was. We depended on it to tell weather we should stay or go. After a while when we were watch in the news we just got on a flight and left. We learned that the situation was worse than we expected and we kept watching the news to collect information about the situation. Sometimes the information wasn’t consistent and we weren’t sure what to think. We thought that BBC had better information than CNN because it CNN we felt made the situation worry us a lot more than it should of. Then we started to watch BBC and it was more straight forward. I thought that many of the people overreacted at one point, you would get messages on Facebook like, “We should all leave Japan and never come back, cause were going to get radiation and get cancer!” I think they got the information from the pictures and thought of it their selves. i thought the situation is bad and we made the right decision to leave when we did.
