1. Watch at least one half of a game from the Rugby World Cup (Schedule).
Which game(s) did I watch? Canada vs. France
2 Write a brief introductory paragraph (about 4 sentences) starting with “The aim of Rugby Union is to….”
The players want to out muscle the opponent to be able to score more points. To gain territorial advantages over the opposing team. To score as many points as possible. To play inside the rules of Rugby Union, so you don’t get fouls and give the other teams penalties .
3. The world cup running at the moment in New Zealand is the game of Rugby Union. Briefly (no more than 4 sentences) describe the difference between Rugby Union and Rugby League.
Rugby union has no tackle counts, in Rugby league there is a 6 tackle limit before you have to give up the ball. In Rugby Union you get 5 points for a try and 2 for a conversion and 3 for a penalty kick. Where as in Rugby league you get 4 points for a try, and 2 points for a penalty kick and a conversion. Rugby Union has 15 players Rugby League has 13 players. *The Rugby Union players are generally considered more educated than the Rugby League players. If you are a league fan please ignore this comment.4. List the teams who have won the RWC in its entire history.
Australia twice, South Africa twice, England once, and New Zealand once.5. Choose one of the following to explain in detail: Knock on, Offside, Scrum, Line Out or Hooker.
A knock on is when a player accidentally knocks the ball forward with his arm or hand. The referee then calls a scrum and the side that didn’t knock the ball has the advantage of putting the ball in the scrum.
6. In brief (no more than 4 sentences), explain where Rugby Union originated and how a pacific island nation came upon it.
In a high-school in Rugby, Warwickshire there is a boarding school that invented Rugby Union was invented by William Webb Ellis. He was playing football, and then he picked up the ball and ran toward the opponents goal, that is how the game started. When the British Empire took over different countries, they would spread there sport to the people. That made the sport well known and then spread too different countries.7. What examples of Internationalism are evident throughout the RWC?
Different countries coming together to cheer and support their countries.
8. Identify an occasion in the RWC where an opportunity to learn about another culture was evident.
When New Zealand does the Haka in front of the opposing team it shows there culture.
9. Give evidence of an occasion in the RWC where two or more communities have come together in good spirit?
When after a game they pat each-other the back and compliment each-other. When someone falls down they help each-other get up and they pat each-other on their backs.
10. Millions of dollars are spent on this event. Do you think it was money well spent? Yes/No, Why/Why Not
Yes, I think that the money is well spent, because all the people come together to support their country. All the people that watch support their countries and helps the players have confidence.
