In our P.E class we have been completing our gymnasitics unit. At the very begining of this unit we started to learn about different skills on mats and on the vault. On the mat first if all we learned how to do log rolls, pencil roles and then moved on to forward roles and backward roles. We kept practicing untill we were ready to try a cart wheel. On the vault we practiced jumping up and off. I tried doing a hand spring, but it was really hard to push my arms so I would be able to make it over the vault. After a few lessons of learning all these skills we split up into groups for our performance. In our performance we had to have four floor sequences and every one should have done something on the vault. To make our performances look presentable we added music. Then all of the other groups watched each others performances and the P.E teachers took a video of them.
In my groups performance we included most of the different skills we learnt. We used two balance poses. One was at the start a two person pose. One person was kneeling with one hand up helping the other person balance with one leg on the ground and the other in the air. Because it is important that no body hurts themselves we need to have somebody who helps the people who are performing the balance pose, which was me. The second balance pose my group chose to perform was at the very end. Two people stayed in a push up pose facing each other while another person stands just below there shoulders. Two people helped make sure everything was ok while performing this balance pose. We used a ballet skill that was something that suited our performance theme. We used forward roles, backward roles, cart wheels and one-handed cartwheels to use as skills. On the vault our whole groups vault jump started off with jumping onto the top of the vault and then followed by a way to exit the mat. We also moved the vault and just used the spring board and red mat to perform a jump. The whole group decided to perform forward rolls. We repeated all these skills to create a performance.
I think that most of our groups movements flowed well together. A fe of our movements were the same so they flowed together well. We could have worked on being able to move more flowingly between each movements, but i still think that we did a good job.
The most challenging skill for me was the one-handed cart wheel. I had learned how to do it when i was younger, but i forgot how to so i had to try and remember what i knew and try to improve. I eventually figured out that you need to push your self away from the floor, using your arm power, because it is hard to do not fall over when all of your weight is being out on one hand. I knew that when we performed i needed to get it right. On the performance day i practiced before hand, but when it came to the real performance i still wasn’t sure i could perform it so instead i was going to do a cart wheel. I decided not to do a cart wheel and tried a one handed one, but my legs were not very straight so there were some improvements.
I think that i did overcome this challenge, but it was hard to because this is a skill that i had to re-learn. Because i had not tried it in a long time.
The most enjoyable skill for me was the forward roles. Because i already learnt this skill before i was not worried about messing it up because i didn’t think i would. This skill was easy to learn because it is one of the simple and basic skills in gymnastics. I was also happy that i could stand up after doing a forward role because it made it much easier to move into the next movement and have a flowing sequence. The next time i perform this skill i will make sure to try and stay in a straight line.
I think that the very first practice sessions were productive because we were able to all work together well, but after a few lessons we became tiered and started messing around. What helped us get through our desire to want to relax was we helped each other with ideas so that we could complete our routine. I our group we all were in the same position, but i think at some points we needed a leader to become organized and my friend Keina was very good and getting things under control.
To improve our performance i would make our movements flow more smoothly. The next time i did something like this i would change the order of things because some things were not in the right order. Next time I want to include a variety of different skills to make it look more advanced and organized like some of the other groups were able to do. I think that we could also improve on our song selection. I really liked the song, but i thing maybe something a bit more upbeat would fit our performance expect for the parts were we performed ballet. Apart from those things i think our performance was really good and i can’t wait to get some feedback on what we can do to improve.
This is the embedded video of my groups performance. I hope you enjoy and if you have any tips or comments feel free to leave a comment because it would be very helpful to me and this group. Thank you .

Great reflection Rhiannu. I’m glad that you tried the one-handed cartwheel, it added a lot to your group’s performance.
