This unit we were asked to make a line drawing trying to image a drawing by Vincent Van Gogh. We had a lot of time to make this drawing. Before we started our drawing we were to make a picture on our computers using images we find on the internet for example, back ground images, animals or even people. I used a cow which ended up looking like a ant eater which made my class laugh so hard. My back ground was set in a little village with a house and trees. As the weeks came on it was our last day working on our drawing. When we finished we had to show the class our drawing and get feedback from it. Half of my feedback I got was “ant eater!!!” or even “I like the cow???” but there was some other feedback like “I like the stippling you used”. Stippling is a technique we can use in art where we can make dots on certain areans to make paths or even bushes. I had some white space in my artwork but overall I think I did pretty well. If I have to describe by numbers it will be 9 out of 10. I did not give myself a 10 because I think there were areas I could of done better.

This week instead of having a koto class we went to watch a little koto performance/talk with the whole grade. Three people were showing us the performance was my two koto teachers—Ms. Miyama and Mr. Patterson— and a guy called Bruce. Bruce is a man who plays a japanese flute called the Shakuhachi. We started off the lesson with a song which Mr. Patterson would play the Shamisen(a japanese three string guitar) while singing in Japanese, Miyama Sensei playing the koto and Bruce playing the Shakuhachi.

After the song we went to have lunch. After lunch we came back and listened to 3 more songs. the second song was played by all three. The third song was played by Miyama Sensei and the last was played by Mr. Bruce.

Overall I enjoyed the little koto session.

Historical background of your café
The café started life in 1813 as a drapery, selling silk and other luxury items. It took its name ‘Les Deux Magots’ from a successful play of that time: ‘The Two Magots of China’.By 1884 “Les Deux Magots” had transformed itself into a wine merchant’s on the corner of St Germain des Pres just as the area was transforming itself into a artistic quarter with the presence of the publishers Grasset and Gallimard and the theatre ‘Le Vieux Colombier’.

In 1914, Auguste Boulay, an ancestor of the present owners, realised the potential of the building’s location. After a refurbishment, the café “Les Deux Magots” emerged, and rapidly became the place to “see and be seen”. Soon, legendary figures of the art world were frequenting the café : Verlaine meets Mallarme, Oscar Wilde takes tea, Guillaume Appolinaire and others have animated debates on important issues of the day.

With the twenties came the exuberance and energy of the surrealist movement and its leading proponents could be found in passionate discussions over a coffee or a drink in “Les Deux Magots”. Then in 1933, after Andre Malraux had been awarded the prestigious Goncourt Prize for an academic novel, a group of enthusiastic writers decided that there should be another independent prize for talent and originality. At that moment “Le Prix des Deux Magots” was born and it was first awarded to Raymond Queneau for ‘Le Chiendent’.

Names of the famous people who frequented your café
Jean Paul Sartre, Simone de Beauvoir, etc…

The reason or purpose for those people to go to this café. Did they have a particular activity going on in this café?
Because people like to go to the cafe for a drink or lunch or just chill and rest

Has your café been at the origin of some changes in French society? Has it had any impact on any aspect of French society?
In the decades that followed up until the present day, “Les Deux Magots” has been a witness to the changes in art literature, philosophy and politics.

Is this café playing the same role nowadays and why/why not?
Yes I think it is because it is a very relaxing place for french people and tourists.

If you can have access to some figures, would you say that the number of cafés in France is generally increasing or decreasing? How would you explain this trend? What future developments can we foresee? Are there any new types of cafés that you are aware of?
I think it is increasing because people like to go to the cafe and stuff, and in the late eighties, a ‘ Les deux Magots’ opened in the cultural centre of Bunkamura in Tokyo as a restaurant and cafe with a french boutique of French products.

French cafés have existed for more than three hundred years. What is it that makes cafés still a popular tradition? Explore several aspects of your café and report on its location, its atmosphere, its menu and prices. From your results, what would you say contributes to making it a popular place?

I think it is still popular because cafes are places where people can relax and eat with friends.

this unit in Drama we have been working on our drama Speech. We were assigned to make a speech about what we like. I chose Fifa the game because this is my favourite game of all time. After we did the speech we were given a topic. The given topic I chose was about Celebrities. I had to do another speech but a different topic which was Celebrities. I had to make a blog post on which was better so I chose the fifa one. Here is the video.

Hello

I would like to show you what you would call good sportsmanship.

If you have watched you can guess what I mean by good sportsmanship. As you saw this video is about a football player called Miroslav Klose scoring with his hand but asks the referee to disallow the goal. My thoughts about this video was that you need to be honest although if the goal was the winning goal.

Heres another type of sportsmanship which is bad sportsmanship.

This video was a dirty man called Joey Barton—who has been in a lot of trouble in football—where he punches another player and sais to the referee that he slapped him on the chest. My thoughts about this video was how did not say the truth to the ref which he was lucky to not have got a red card. I think we should all be honest on what we do and not to forget to play fair.

In this silent door mime we needed a partner and my parter was Tobi. Our story was about a couple just getting married and on there way home but can’t open the door to the house. They try and try but can’t open the door. They think of plans by finding there hidden key. They still can’t open it. At the end Tobi smashes the windows and finds the key in the house.

I think I did well because I had the guts to be the wife. I also thought I did well because I used the imaginary items. Overall I think I did well on helping Tobi get me on his arms.
