In PE we have just finished our gymnastics unit. A a group of four we were asked to make a gymnastics routine including the spring-board, different types of rolles (forward roll, backward roll) and flips (Cartwheel, round-offs). In my group we had Kousuke, Jack, Yudai and I. Hope you enjoy!
We had a variety of balances and during on time going through the spring-board we had a sequence and I thought it looked good. We had front-flips off the spring-board. We had cartwheels and various types of rolls.
When we moved into our balances I thought it flowed well together because we were moving towards where the balance was going to be. We tried to make the movements make it look good and make it easier to go into the balace position. When we were running to the spring-board it looked un-neat and slow.
One of the challenges was trusting people with your body when they lift you up because they might throw me off as a joke and I could get injured. I would also say there was scary moments such as someone jumping over me or almost falling on me. Because other people are bigger it’s sometimes scary having to pick them up because if they fell and got hurt it would be my fault.
I overcame these challenges by taking a risk and letting the other people do what they want and trust them. Sometimes this was hard but I thought they worked hard and I worked hard to trust other people. I made sure I never thought that the other members of the group wouldn’t do those mean things. I was thinking correctly since they never hurt or tried to hurt me.
I thought doing flips and tricks off the vault was really fun because even though I could get hurt it was really fun spinning and knowing I accomplished something. When you flip you have less than a millisecond where you have doubt that you might get hurt but once that’s gone the sensation of landing and being in one piece is amazing. The balances were really fun since we could try out new balances and make our own to make our routine look better. There was different types but I thought that trying them out was fun since all of them were different so it was fun experimenting.
Our practice sessions were enjoyable but productive. We got the small parts done so it looked smoother. Sometimes we had difficulty focusing but once we got back on task we got work done. Our member gave helpful but constructive comments and these comments helped us make a better performance. We made sure that once we performed that wouldn’t make mistakes or forget what to do next. We practiced somethings over and over so we wouldn’t mess up and it payed off.
If we performed again I would have one person do a small solo act while the other member moved to the vault so no one would notice the other members moving so it would look better. I would also make sure everyone else knew what to do at the right time so we wouldn’t have to speak or tell each other what to do next.
We had good help from our teacher Ms.Buehler who also told us better ways to improve our performance and small things we were doing wrong.
I thought our group had a strong enjoyable performance and I hoped you enjoyed. If you have any comments, comment.
