My Visual Journal

Field Studies No Comments »

For this journal, I think I did pretty well. Although I ran out of ideas sometimes, I managed to experiment with different techniques and coloring materials. To me, it was a very challenging task. I found creating the page the most easy but planning the most difficult. From this task, I learned that when I plan the journal I shouldn’t stop or else my ideas would not come out. In the journal, I think I was good at the layout of the page. I used the spaces well and created a good theme on most of the pages. Another thing I found good at was the variety of materials I used. In most of my pages, I used different paper including origami paper, recycled paper and paper from notebooks. I also used different coloring materials for example, stamp pads, paint and scratch pens. For this task I think I could have improved on the background. Since most of my background colors was white, I think it made it a little boring. Another thing I could have improved on was my variety of fonts. I could have used more interesting fonts instead of using the same one for every page. During this unit, I learned different ways of expressing my ideas in a sketchbook. Also I learned, I learned that when I plan the journal I shouldn’t stop or else my ideas would not come out. If I am going to do this task again, I would be more careful on the use of my background and use more variety of fonts in every page.

Third day (Risk-Takers)

Field Studies No Comments »

My third day was a very warm day. It was a perfect day for a nice wall climbing and rubbish clean up. There it was, my activities for the day, wall climbing and river clean up.I guess this day I found pretty much risk-takers.

The first risk-taker found was during the river clean up. River clean up was quite difficult from the one that you image. We had to go to this clean river to pick up litter and garbage. During this activity I felt as if people were polluting the river as badly as being abused. I really felt sorry for the river. Either way, the risk-takers I found were my classmates that tried to cross the river to find the other garbage on the other side. I really wanted to help them but I didn’t like to be wet so instead I took a few pictures.

The next activity was rock climbing. The rock climbing was a very scary experience for me but no matter how scary it was, some people tried many times until they could reach the top. It was almost impossible to go again for me although a few people went about three times.

In conclusion, the third day was very risky day after all. It was very fun and I enjoyed the day the most so far. I wish I could repeat the day again and I will try my best to do another round of rock climbing again. The rock climbing was actually fun.

Second day (Thinker)

On the second day of field studies, we had many activities to do during the afternoon. We had Biking, Canoeing and moving into the hotel. It was a long day starting with a cold night but I enjoyed it very much.

The first activity was to Canoe. To canoe is very difficult especially when it was long distance and the paddles are heavy. My partner during this activity was Marina and I didn’t think we had enough strength to paddle but it was too late to change so we just had to paddle all our might to the far end. I guess I was a thinker during the canoeing because I thought by saying one, two out loud so we could paddle at the same timing and we could go faster than usual.

The next activity is biking. I was not good at biking as expected during the biking so I had to join the lower group which was only me. so I was aloud to return to my tent first.

At last we could go to our hotel rooms and take a shower and refresh before dinner. The shower was very nice and everybody enjoyed it. During the time to refresh, I found some people that were thinkers. They shifted their schedule  so that when they go to the onsen, it will not be too crowded. I believe I should have done that so it will not take a long time waiting for the others to use the shower.

In conclusion I didn’t find a lot of thinkers but I found some smart thinkers on the second day. I hope to find more on the third day.

First Day (Caring)

On the first day of field studies, we did a lot of different activities. We took the bus to Hakuba and we reached there in about five hours. On the bus, we had to bring our rubbish back and that was the first caring thing that happened in the day.People brought each other’s rubbish and picked up some litter. I felt that those people were very caring to people who littered and did not bring their rubbish so I helped them too.

Once we reached there, we ate lunch and built our own tents with our roommates. Building a tent was difficult than I thought but, again I found some Caring people that helped the groups that had difficulty. I felt very thankful to them. I could not help them again because my group was slow but I was really grateful to those people.

The next activity was the orientering. We teamed up with our grouped and had a tour around the mountains. During the activity, I saw some of my classmates who were not caring to the others. Our group was very fast that we caught up with the group before but, the group before us said that we were cheating by following them. We really did not but they were still stubborn so we wondered around until we could not see them.

Finally we could eat our dinner. Actually we had to make it. During this activity, I fould some really caring people. Those people decided to help out because they watched some girls trying to cut and mix the food. Well, I was the few people helping out so it was very caring of them to help us .

The last activity is the Campfire.During the campfire, I saw some caring people that agreed to share their sticks for the marshmallows. It was very nice of them to share with others since, I lost my stick on the way so it helped a lot.

Caring was really important during the first day and now I know how helpful it is to be caring.

Field studies? What do I think?

Field studies is just around the corner! I am very excited about field studies and so does my friends!

What  do I expect to do on the field study?

I am expecting a lot of different adventures and fun incidents during the activities. I believe this is going to be my not only the first but best field studies.

What do I expect to be the best thing about the field study?

I would want the last skit night to be the best thing about field studies because it is going to be the last field studies for this year. Also I want the hot air balloon night to be the best thing for field studies too.

What do I expect to learn on the field study?

I would want to learn more about the nature for example, about the plants, about fire etc.

What am I nervous about or wondering?

I am really nervous about the bus ride to Hakuba because I have bus sickness. I wish I didn’t have it. Also I am wondering how the field studies will go. Sometimes, field studies end up as a disaster but I hope it doesn’t!
