My best speech

In drama we are on our speech unit, we have done two speeches in total. The first speech we did is about what we like. the second speech is a given topic speech where we had 5 topics to choose from, which are Holiday, best day of your life, Fashion, celebrity and my neighborhood.

The speech I think that I liked and did more better on was the frist speech, because it was about something I enjoy so I knew a lot about it and so it was easier to memorize what to say. Although the second speech we had palm cards I still thought the first speech was more easier to do and more of a success.

Here is my frist speech which is the 1 min speech

I think that I did a good job on speaking loud so my volume was good and clear enough for the audience to hear and understand me, I also had a happy expression so that wasn’t bad. But I should be more careful of not to fiddle around with things like my scarf that I had on and also to look at the audience. Although I did look at the audience but there were lots of times where I was looking somewhere else. So I think that I should improve on my posture, standing still but with a few gestures. Also I think at parts I spoke too fast so I need to watch out for my pace and pauses next time.

This is the given topic speech, my 2nd speech

For this speech we had to speak longer, the other speech was only 1 min but this time it was 3 min. During this speech we could use palm cards but our topics were given, we were given 5 topics to choose from. For this speech I had to research a lto and most parts were hard to memorize. I didn’t have much gestures and facial expressions but my posture was better than my first speech because I wasn’t fiddling much. This speech was much harder because we had to speech for 3 min and it was of a topic that wasn’t anything we wanted. I should improve on my pauses and inflection more because sometimes I didn’t have pauses and sometimes my pauses were too long. Also I need to improve eon these things because it will help my speech be more catchy and memorable and better.

Another student’s speech that  I thought was  caught my attention well

I thought that my class mate Aruna’s 1 min speech was really good, because she had lot’s of gestures, her volume was good, pace was good and she paused when she needed to. Although I thought she was moving around too much and needed to look at the audience more, but I thought her speech was great because it was catching peoples attention and very interesting.

Here is her speech

Overall, in this unit I learned many ways of how to make your speech be memorable and interesting. With the elements in a good speech, tone, pace, gesture, facial expressions, structure, pause, information and so on. I think that these elements will definitely help me in the future, in occasions like making a presentation, speech or acting. I really enjoyed this unit because it made me more confident than before and expanded my knowledge.

Silent Film Analysis

We are still studying about mime in drama, This week we watched a video called smile by Charlie Chaplin. In class we also watched another video of a whole story that was similar to Romeo and Juliet but was in mime. I thought the actors were really good because without speaking and voice they could act out a whole story that people could understand completely.

Enjoy! 😀

What emotions are shown in this scene?
At the first part the women looked tired or sad then to show that she suddenly put her head in her arms and cries leaning on a rock. The man at first was like he didn’t notice the women crying because it shows him fixing his shoes, then he kinda naturally look at the side where the women was then realized that she was crying. The women showed that she was sad when she was talking to the man not looking straight at him but looking up and in front.
The actors show their feelings by their body positioning, the angle there face is at and with their faces.

Basic mimes reflection

We are now still learning about mimes and this time we had to work in groups and act out a random scene to mime out without telling the audience what the scene is.
I think that my group did not do bad because at the end everybody could tell what our scene was.
Our strengths were working as a team to mime it out, we had two ideas of how to act it out but at the end we did not choose so we looked at each other and made another story but the same scene. Also we did not walk through anything like a ghost. I also thought how we passed the things to each other was a success because we kept it the same weight and same size.
I think our weaknesses were that we need more facial expressions to make the scene look more real and not just a act. Also maybe we should of discussed about some parts together more because at the first part we kind of made it look like the car was tilting on the ground, so some parts we should be careful about. Other wise I thought we did pretty well because we only had a short time to practice.

This is our video please enjoy! Hmmmm… I wonder if you all can guess what kind of scene we are doing?

Drama Mime door

In the first unit of 7th grade drama we have been looking at miming and the different key points in miming. In class we have played and practiced a few miming games for example one of them was the mirror game where one person is the mirror and the other person is a actor, dancer or sports player and we needed to mime to describe your person. After a few more classes with a partner we made this mime named the door mime, we create a simple story where we will open the door and close the door.

My partner was Aruna, she and I thought of this story about us being room mates, we couldn’t open the door and we opened the door with a axe. But after we got in we got locked in again.

I think that my mime for opening the door was not so bad but not perfect, when I opened the door I think I kind of curved the door.

In other performances I could use these miming skills that we learned so far for acting out stuff for example opening and closing stuff, and facial expressions and body language to show how I am fleeing in the part of the performance.

This is Me and Aruna’s finished door mime video that we took in class.
I hope you all enjoy 😀
