During this part of technologies we have worked on our tutorials and have improved on it. After that we paired up with a partner and then we commented on what the other person should improve on. Then we were given time to improve on what our partners think would be better and then we uploaded it to vimeo.
I have learned a lot of things from making a tutorial. For example I have learned how to use iMovie more than I did before. Before we started making tutorials I did not know much about iMovie but when we started preparing for the tutorial and studying about it I have learned the basics of using iMovie. Somethings I already knew but some of the things I have just learned and it has made using iMovie much easier than before.
I think that I did a pretty good job with the tutorial. I didn’t think I did a great job because for me I thought my voice was not very clear and the pacing was always different. For example some times I talk a little fast and sometimes I talk really slow I think that it makes people a little confused. Also another reason I think wasn’t very good was because when I spoke I think I didn’t really make it clear what I meant.
What think was difficult for me to do when I was making the tutorial was not to block the view of the camera. However what I thought was easy about this task was when we made the the video. It was the most easy for me because I already had an idea of what the finished product would look like because of the storyboard that I made. The storyboard made it easier because then I would know what I would need to do and what I needed to edit on iMovie.
I think the criteria I showed in my tutorial was maybe clear voice. Even though the pacing of my voice was not very good I still thought that it was clear. Another criteria I thought I did well was maybe the introduction because I kept it very short and it was understandable. I also showed the finished product at the start so that they would know what they were going to do through out the video. There was also when I slowed down what I was doing and fast froward the boring part so that they wouldn’t have to look through a very long tutorial.
What I think I need to learn now is to pace what I’m trying to explain. I think that it is very important because if it is too slow then people would get bored watching the video and if it is too fast then you wouldn’t know what I was trying to say. I would also need to work on using more understandable directions because I think that my directions were a little hard to understand. So I think if people don’t understand the directions then they wouldn’t know what to do and the tutorial would be useless. The last thing I think I should improve on was maybe to use some examples when I explain something. I t would also help the audience understand more of what they are trying to do.
When we were asked to look at another person’s tutorial and comment on it I commented on Layna’s and Rhiannu’s. From watching their tutorials I have learned more about their topic that they chose. For example I learned from Layna’s tutorial that there are different pronunciations in Chinese and when if you say it differently then it changes the meaning of what you are saying. And from Rhiannu’s tutorial I learned an easier way to remember the music notes for example for the ‘E, G, B, D, F’ notes I could just think ‘Every Good Boy Deserves Fudge’ and for the ‘F, A, C, E’ notes I could just remember the word ‘FACE’.
In conclusion I think that I have learned a lot on this unit. I hope that if I ever in the future have to make another tutorial I would remember what I learned on this unit and make an even better tutorial. I have also learned how to use iMovie much better than I did before this unit. I also think that this has been a very interesting unit to work on and that in the future we have more units like this where we do a little video project and put in on our blog.

I think you did a great job Helen! I think you were good at doing fast forwarding and slow motioning it! I think the only thing you have to work at is your volume in the video, because sometimes i cant hear you well sometimes. Overall you did a great job!
Awesome! I’m so impressed with your finished tutorial, as well as your very thoughtful and thorough reflection. You have tons of great ideas for improving this kind of work in the future, and it’s great to see that you continually improved your work throughout the unit.
Great job! I love the way you used slow-mo and fast-forward to balance the pace of your tutorial. I want to try this out myself now–what type of paint do you recommend?
