tech reflection
By jack nicholson
During this unit in tech we have been making tutorials and sharing them with the world. We are doing this project to help students and other with items around school and life.We made these tutorials in march and posted it earlier in April. Most of the grade used iMovie but some used other movie applications.
I learnt how to used green screen via watching tutorials that people had made and also learnt how to use google sketchup 8 via Watching Justin’s tutorial.
I am happy with my final tutorial because the video is good quality and I clearly showed the right and wrong things. Although I am happy with my tutorial I still think I could improve the audio quality.
I found finding the right place to cut the audio and film difficult and also found getting places to film difficult but on the contrary I found iMovie itself easy to use as well as filming.
I think I had good pacing with my spoken instructions, good video quality and a nice clear voice. I think this because you can clearly hear my voice, you can see everything that is going on and I projected my voice.
I need to learn how to edit using other software because it might be better than imovie. I should also work on my filming because the filming can change the whole tutorial.
I watched three tutorials, they were: Justin’s on using Google Sketchup 8, Connor’s on using the split strategy and Sena’s on remembering the music notes.
My finished product is a very good tutorial on what to do and what not to do in the gym and dance studio. I improved by using more than just me to record the scenes. Although I learnt a bit i did not learn a lot i learnt how to use green screen which will help a lot in the future and i learnt how to use Google Sketchup 8.
Teachers of the future: Plan reflection
By jack nicholson
Recently in Technology we have finished our teachers of the future: plan section. For our teachers of the future assignment Grade 6 are making tutorials on a subject that we asked the teachers about. Once again mine is on Etiquette in the gym, in the dance studio and on the turf. During the assignment we made a storyboard after looking part of the storyboard that disney used for Monsters Inc. . The most recent of what we have done is our plan template. For the plan template we had to “get our priorities straight” so to say and prioritise what we had to and have a finish date for it so that we can hand it in on time. Before that we learned how to use IMovie and/or get better at it, I taught myself how to use
green/blue screen. After the whole unit’s prep we have a set of tutorial criteria that we have to follow but different people used it in different ways.
My tutorial plan demonstrates excellent tutorial design because, I do the action while saying it. This helps people understand it better then when just saying it. My scenes are in order this is good because they build on each other and make sense. It is on topic so I don’t sidetrack meaning that it looks more professional because I am not distracted.
My plan ensures you that you will learn what and what not to do in the gym, in the dance studio and on the turf because, I have good pace making it easier to hear what I am saying. I use signs and subtitles to help hearing impaired understand. I have advice and tips to help you from making mistakes and hurting yourself.
To make my tutorial better I will have to get better at using picture in picture to show signs. Plan more efficiently
Tech reflection: Teachers of the future: investigate
By jack nicholson
When we finished our unit on teachers of the future investigate part we had to comment on two blogs in our grade that have tutorials on them I commented on was Sean’s and Justin’s blogs. From the tutorials that I watched on their blogs I learn’t where to put my feet on a skate board to do an ollie and I also learn’t how survive on minecraft. During the investigate part I learn’t how to use applescript editor, how to breakdance and how to place my feet in boxing. I can’t really use boxing or breakdancing in a computer tutorial but I can use applescript editor to make it more interesting. Watching these videos I also saw good ways to start and end my tutorials. E.g. have music fade in and out at the start and end of the intro/outro. To make a good tutorial I need to not use slang, make sure it is good quality and learn video editing. We made a mini tutorial mine was on activating hot corners on a mac.
My favorite tutorial: How to breakdance
By jack nicholson
Our Grade has been researching tutorials. My favorite is how to breakdance by eric stanton. It is good because he has gone through the steps slowly first adding new things and then putting them in to a dance. On the next video he adds a new step and keeps adding and then when you practice you can break dance. What Eric has done well is that he goes over the steps many times, this is good because it means that you can see it a lot so that you can get it right and not hurt your self. He also does the harder things last so that you can work your way up from easy to hard. In this video the only thing that is hard to understand is the windmill. It is hard to understand because of his description of where to place you hands and what to do with them. This isn’t helpful because it is the coolest one to do.

Jack Blog Reflection Create!!
By jack nicholson
Today we just finished a rather rushed create unit in Tech! In fact it was so rushed that we only spent two days working on it in class and 7 day at home! I am happy with my blog theme like I said in my last post it is easy to change add menus posts come out thin but not to thin.
I am most proud of my posts, because I am always editing them to perfection and inserting images and videos that make it easier to understand.
For me I think that to become an even better blogger I need to learn how to create new websites and link them to it and put links in the widgets bar.
Overall this unit was a fun quick unit that we all liked Thanks again Ms.C !
tech:plan assignment reflection
By jack nicholson
Today we finish our tech plan unit for our blogs and we did a lot of different things. the things that we did during this unit will be mentioned. We choose a theme for our blog, we did a sheet on how to grow our blog and also drew templates for our bog designs.
The blog theme that I chose and the one that you are viewing now is called “mandigo” and I chose it because it was the easiest to manoeuvre into the design that I drew. There are other reasons how it meets my needs like the posting area is rather thin compared to the one that I had before. here is also an image that when you click on it, it will take you to the doc.
To be able to grow my blog I will have to learn how to get more plug-ins and how to make the blog very exiting and also get the word out there. Most of these skills I will ask my teacher for but out of school my dad will be able to help me because he has made a lot of blogs and is very good at IT.
During this unit I learn’t a lot about how to customize my blog so that it suits me. Although there is still a lot of work to do but by June this will be a very interesting, fun and exiting blog to both visit and look at. Thank you to the teacher for a fun and exiting unit.
Becoming a blogger investigation
By jack nicholson
where it was designed for hamster. There was a twist though, our teacher wouldn’t tell us this we had to ask her questions about who or what this would be for.During this investigation I thought that I could have done a bit better on the blog research but I also thought that I did a good job on the brainstorm that we did on the blog that we are reading off now(once again the link is below this comment).
The packet that we did was fun because we were all split in to different groups and would figure out what was on the sheets and then we would compare with the other groups. After this I now think that I can make a good. No, sorry a great blog that will really stand out from the other students blogs. If I was giving a self-assessment right now I would probably give myself a 4 or a 5 for the whole thing.
