Portrait Painting Reflection

For the past 4 weeks into our second unit, in art class have been working on a very creative portrait of ourselves but not in black and white but in color…  The photo below will link you to the wiki which shows how and why about this unit. The unit question is “How do personal experiences shape our identity” and our significant was “Our culture shapes our identity”. We looked at aesthetic, social or political art to give us an idea of what we were doing. We needed to show identity and culture a lot in color for example you would use warm colors to show comfortable and happy feelings, Dark for sad or depressed feelings.

This is my Portrait I made myself.

I have tried to work really hard on this unit and portrait. During in the making I had mixed many different colors for the shading of the face and hair. I worked really hard on the shading mostly. If your not an expert in art you may not see that I have done the shading many many times, because I started from light to dark and layered them many times. In my planing I had a lot of progress, because I got a lot of ideas and I used about 2 pages. I was very progressive as in that it didn’t take me too long to finish my portrait in time as I finished it early thanks to all my planing and progress.

The really challenging part of the making was the shading and the hand I found the gradation part very difficult. On the hand I had a hard time making the fingers and making them look realistic. The easy part was the hair and my eyes. It was easy because I have got use to making the eyes and hair like in my realistic portrait in black and white. My planing was easy because I had a lot of great ideas for my portrait and they had identity and emotion. But on the other hand I should of worked a little harder on my complimentary colors for I used purple and orange which weren’t so matching.

In this portrait it doesn’t show culture or emotion but it shows a lot of identity. The splatter in the background represents that I make mistakes and its paint splatter which is art. So the splatter represents I’m not perfect and I am artistic. If you look harder you can see some marker lining which means I like make doodles, which is awesome(; My favorite was the news paper mustache. I used it because it represents my humor, the reason I did my mustache in news paper format is because it shows that I am not smart at math or hard mathematics like Einstein but I am street smart.

This unit has been a fun and exciting experience for me because I got to learn about different types of art like aesthetic, social or political art. Out of all my painting is good but I think it deserves a little more work.

Thankyou for reading(:
