Solar Eclipse
Hello everyone, today we saw the solar eclipse. This was not just a solar eclipse, but this was a total eclipse. For Japan, it is said that you could only see a total eclipse once in about 130 years. Our school had a day off to see the eclipse. but other schools in Japan either started later than usual, of started before the eclipse to see the sun as a whole class. In Japan, we use these special glasses which are much more stronger than normal sunglasses to see straight into the sun. Our one was a ruler which can also be used as the pair of strong glasses. The eclipse started at about 6:20. It was quite cloudy today at Japan, so it was quite hard to see the sun. At first I thought it would have been impossible to see the eclipse since it was so cloudy. But just as the full eclipse neared, the clouds started clearing up so we started to get more excited. At around 7:00 the sun was approximately half covered. At 7:32 the ring showed up. It was very beautiful I have to admit, but we were not able to see the ‘diamond ring’ around the moon. At 7:37 the ring was over and the moon was clearing away. At 9:03 the moon was completely out of the way and we were able to see the regular sun.
As you may have already know, the eclipse happens when the moon comes in front of the sun. But in India, there is a religious theory that there is a demon that eats the sun and when it does, that is when the eclipse is formed. I don’t really believe the religious theory although I have read about the demon eating the sun. You are also not allowed to eat during a solar eclipse. The reason is that the sun kills bacteria due to the heat that bacteria can not stand. When the sun is eclipsed, it allows the bacteria to spread since the sun is not giving as much heat to the earth due to the moon blocking the sun. And if the bacteria gets in your food, then you can eat them and then get sick. The religious theory in India is that since the demon is eating the sun, the demon is eating something. If you eat something during the time when the demon is eating the sun, you will turn into one of them since you are doing the same thing as that demons do. If you stand below a tree with lots of leaves and branches during a solar eclipse, you can see the shape of the sun being eclipsed. That is because with all the leaves and branches intersecting, it makes a pin hole sized space that goes through from the sky to the ground. The only way to see a shape of the sun is to have the rays going through a pin hole. Thank you for reading and stay tuned for more.
