Gymnastic Reflection
In our PE class we just finished our Gymnastic Unit. We made our own Gymnastic Performance. My group mates were Jem, Zerric, and Sumin. We performed using the spring board and the ground routines like rolling. We practiced few times to make it better. We had difficulties with our music. But we finally chose “Somebody That I Used To Know”. Hope you enjoy!
We used many different techniques or skills during this performance. We used a forward roll, backward roll, handstand, jumping, cartwheel, flips, falling down, and taking a pose. I think our front flips were good using the spring board.
Most of the part of our performance were connected and well flowed but some places, we struggled a little to figure out the next move. Also the balance was kind of hard to keep. We needed to make our feet straight or get little more help from the spotter. Also on the front flip, we didn’t land well as we should have been so next time we might change it to something easier that looks neat and flowing. We need to work on keeping it neat.
The most challenging thing in this Unit was teamwork. We needed to trust people while holding you up in the air because you might get really injured by just a push. We needed to be careful about that when we were practicing. We had our ideas good but when we performed it, it didn’t look good as the planning. I found the handstand hard to balance because I wasn’t used to it. Also matching our moves to the music was quite hard. We had little gap between our moves to wait until the part that matches to the moves. Our gap made our audience wait which is not respecting and it is not even fun to watch. We needed to practice a little more with the music on.
I overcame these challenges by taking a risk and by trying it out. I also eye contacted my mates to make sure there were ready or if I am ready. But one part we did too much of eye contact that it was completely sawn by the audience. We also counted the beat in our head to not make a mistake. I think trusting changes by the people in the group. If it was a good friend we can trust them but if it was a uncomfortable friend, it is kind of hard to perform well. I had no problem at trusting myself but it was a little bit hard to trust them. We were good friends but sometimes good friends can be silly and push you off. I was careful about this.
The most enjoyable skill was the forward roll for me. I kept going on and on which made me dizzy but it was very fun. I also had fun using the spring board it was very interesting and fun. The bounce made me jump higher than usual. Next time I want a trampoline and dunk on the hoop! I also had fun with the cartwheel.
I think most of our practice were productive but we kind of had fun too much and we used the time unwisely. From the first practice we did to the actual performance, we improved so much. In the first practice it was just like babies playing around but now we are okay. Not perfect but okay. To make our performance perfect we need to use our time productively and wisely.
I would improve on my neatness on the ground skills. When I watched the video, my feet were not straight and connected when I was doing the handstand and the same for the forward roll. Next time, when we do these kind of performance, I would make the pace slower and make a pattern. Making a pattern is like roll, cartwheel, roll, cartwheel. Also we need to think of how is it flowing well. For example, forward roll and a cartwheel matches but a log roll to a cartwheel doesn’t match. You need to stand up again to do the cartwheel.
Overall I had fun during the practice and the performance. Next time I want to add like a basketball and do the performance. Actually I want to perform using a prop. That makes the audience keep watching and it is more fun for us as well. I really enjoyed this unit that I want to do it again!

Great reflection Taro. I’m glad that you could trust your group and create a nice performance.
