Drama speech 1 and 2

March 14, 2013 - No Responses

In Drama we have been doing a unit about speech making  similar to a speech unit we did last year. In the unit we made two speeches. The first one was about our passion. We had to talk between 1 to 2 minutes. The hard part was that we were not allowed to use cue cards like other speeches we did which means we had to memorize it or memorize the main parts.

7C Drama: 1 Min Speeches from YIS Arts on Vimeo.

This was my first speech. For this speech I talked about Manga. I think I did a overall pretty good job but I know there are a lot of small bits I need to improve. The part I think that I need to improve the most is that I was fidgeting with my hands too much the whole speech. I also think I could of add more expression while talking because my voice stayed on the same tone for most of the time.Only a few times I changed my tone of voice. I think I ddi a good job at looking at the audience because for most of the time I’m looking at the Camera while speaking except for the times when I am looking up.I also am proud of my pacing.I know it is not the best pacing but for me it is really good because for most other speeches I talk way too fast.Over all I really like my speech and I am very proud of it.

7C Drama: Given Topic Speech from YIS Arts on Vimeo.

This is my second speech. We had to chose a topic from either Fashion,Celebrities,Holidays,Best day of my life,Neighbor hood.I chose Fashion.I am proud of my second speech and I think that I did really better then I did in the first one.I think I did a good job on looking at the audience and only looking at my cue cards for a bit. I aslo think  I added more tone in my voice then last time but I can still add more tone. But I think my pacing got a bit bad compared to my first speech.

I found Aruna’s speech very entertaining because she used a lot of tone in her voice and because ti seeped like she really really like pudding.

OverallI enjoyed doing both speeches andI am very excited to try different types of speeches. The very weird thin gis that Iam wearing the same clothes for both speeches because we had a gap between the 2 speeches. I think my best speech is my second speech.

Smile, Charlie Chaplin , Modern Times, 1936

October 8, 2012 - 2 Responses

In drama we watched a video called “Smile” starring Charlie Chaplin. We looked at the facial expressions, gesture and posture. In this video there were 2 characters one man(Charlie Chaplin) and one lady.

There were a lot of facial expressions in this video. First the expression started with the lady being sad then she collapsed into her arms which shows that she was very sad. The man started with fanning him self with his fan which means that he was hot. After he fanned him self he started to wear  his shoes then he noticed that the women was crying. Then the man went closer to the lady and had an expressions which showed that he did not understand why she was sad. The lady  looked up with a hope less face and said”whats the use of trying” .Then the man’s expression changed to a strong confidence face and said”Buck up-never say die. We’ll get along”. The man convinces the lady.So the ladies expression changes to a strong confidence expression like the man. Then they held hands and starts walking. Then the man notices that there was no smile on the ladies face so he makes a smile on his face and makes the lady smile as well.
How are the actores showing the emotions?Comment on body language.FAcial expression, posture and gesture

The actors showed their emotions by exaggerating their actions. For example when the lady was sad she did not only make a sad face but she collapsed into her arms which made the audience think that she was very sad. The actors showed their facial expressions by making their expressions more bigger. For example the man made his mouth wide open when he went closer to the women when he was confused.

Drama 7:Mime Door

September 19, 2012 - No Responses

7C Drama: Mime Door from YIS Arts on Vimeo.

In drama we have been talking about Mime. The most important things for mime is postures and facial expression. I worked on this Mime door with Sumin.

My Storyline was about 2 people who could not open a door. First I tried to open the door by bangig on it to see if anyones in there. Next Sumin tried to open the door by trying to unlock the door with a stick.Lastly we noticed that the door was a push door not a pull door. I think I was pretty successful. For the most of the time I kept the door nob at the same place . I also tried to keep the door in the same place as well. I think the idea of the push and pull was a bit unreal because one of us should of noticed. I think the Idea of banging on the door was realistic because I think that is what most people will do if they can’t open their door. I can use my mime skills when I am acting in drama because we can use the different facial expressions and posures/

Drama:Creative movement

6C MMMK Summative Prop Dance from YIS Arts on Vimeo.

This is a creative movement dance my group made for the assignment. My group members are Keina,Maya,Marina and I.

When we showed our first dance our group got really confused so we could not do our dance like we planned so we did not get any comments. At the second time I think our dance was very organized so we got a few comments. Ms. Erickson said we did a good job. She said we should chose a good music. One of the comments were to be careful not to put our backs to the audience. At the end we decided to use the song”Hello” by Yui. I think that we did a good job at creating the dance but I think I can try to look at the audience then looking at the person next to me.

Singing in the rain!!

March 5, 2012 - No Responses

This song is called “Singing in the rain”. It is sung by Gene Kelly, this song in one of the most classic moments in the movie.

Gene Kelly uses only few props in this song. One of them is the umbrella. He uses his umbrella in many different ways.At the start he uses his umbrella as a normal umbrella, the he gets more and more creative with his umbrella. One of the ways he used it was as a friend. In some parts it seemed like he was singing/sharing his feelings with the umbrella. At the last part he uses the umbrella as a toy. He played with it by spinning it around. It was like a little boy was playing with his new toy.

I really liked his expression while the he was singing the song.At the very start, after when Gene Kelly got kissed. His expression really changed. He started to get more and more happier.During the song he always stayed happy and he always has a smile on his face. Through out the song his expressions stayed happy, but at the start it seemed like he was daydreaming because he kept looking up into the sky smiling.

Through out the whole song he moved a lot though the town. The song started at the ladys house.Through out the song they showed  a lot of the shops in town. He twirled around the town. The place where I thought he moved around the most was a part towards the end. He started to turn around in the center of the town,he also  moved side to side while he was walking. Which was very fun to watch than watching a man walking normally on the streets.

There were a lot of different types of rhythm through out the song. In some parts the rhythm got really fast but in other parts the rhythm was really slow. The song started out very slow and then the rhythm started to speed up. I liked how the rhythm tempo was like a mountain.

Over all I think Gene Kelly used Props,Rhythm,Expressions and moving through space very well. Just by listening to the song Gene Kelly can make you feel like you are in the situation.

6C Pink Ballerinas 2 from YIS Academics on Vimeo.

In this video my group”THE PINK BALLERINAS” . We are playing a game called Sound Environment. On the side you can see Ian making sounds that matches the scenes. I think that I did a good job acting. bUt I don’t think we did a good job on improv because we actually planned what to do.

IN this video We played again called space jump. I went 2 and started to sing. I think I could of done better with the last part where Ian spaced jump(literally). I could’nt improv well because I didn’t understand what he was doing.
