Gymnastics Blog Reflection Assignment
by Sophia on Apr.26, 2012, under Physical Education 6
During this unit in P.E with have been doing gymnastics with Miss.Buehler(the awesome:)). We first worked on getting down basic movements like front rolls and back rolls, then on to cartwheels and round offs. Then on the vault various movements. After we learned the basics we got into groups of 4 or 5 and came up with a routine that had to have specific moves. The video above is my group( which included Juulia, Josefineand Anna) final performance which we had to chose background music for.
The specific movements which we needed to be in our performance and extras were round-offs, cartwheels, roll sequences which included front rolls and log rolls, which we incorporated together into a type of thing where two people log rolled and then two of the others would jump over the first person, then roll over of the second. We also included three different vaults for each person, we included front flips, front hand springs, 360 spins and spider man poses as well as donkey kicks and others. We also needed to include 2 group poses and 1 double pose and a single pose(and in ours it failed).
I think in some points of our performance it really flowed together and times we just were really confused and stopped which made it awkward, I think reason this happened was because all of us weren’t very sure on what order everything was in after the beginning. I think what flowed well was the in the very beginning where we started the group pose because thats the part we rehearsed the most and also because it was layed out in the same area which made us not have to move.
The skills I found most challenging was one of the moves on the vault because thats where I made a mistake which was really funny haha but I think the reason I made that mistake was because I went to fast and didn’t concentrate so I think that caused me not be able to make the first front handspring. Also I found it hard to be in time with the person next to me in the front rolls because I wasn’t sure if we were in the same time as eachother.
I think my group as whole overcame the challenge because we worked together and around half the time we were able to smoothly run through the performance without making any mistakes that caused the performance to go in chaos.I also think that myself in the performance was almost able to over come this challenge what I made a few mistakes that caused myself to not be able to make the performance the best it could have possibly went.
Though the vault I said was the most challenging I thought it was also one of the most enjoyable and one that I had the most fun doing because I think the challenge of going of some of moves of the vault created a bar the I was to set for myself to improve on which made me really want to do well and gave me a positive energy.I also enjoyed the rolling sequence as explained above with the two log rollers and two front roll rollers.
The many practice sessions we had I think very much improved our groups performance because it helped us change things, and make them go in a more smooth way.I think we also worked pretty productively most of the time because each practice session in my perspective we improved little by little just from small things. Also since we did do our performance twice I think doing it the first time really helped us understand what we needed to improve on.
If I had a chance to improve on anything in the performance it would be to make our groups performance run more smoothly because when we were going from the mat to the vault it took some time and made things looked a bit under practiced which it was. Also personally I would have liked to improve my vaults because they looked sort of uncomfortable for me to do even though it wasn’t.
I really liked doing this unit because when I was little I used to take gymnastics lessons and it really reminded me of why i loved gymnastics so much. Also it was just alot of fun making a performance with friends and it also taught me alot about teamwork.
Cross Country Reflection

My outcome goal was to never stop running through both laps and my process goal was to always keep a good pace while running.
I think something that really helped me accomplish my goals was self talk on the first run in my head I was like “run, run to get warm”, I was probably saying that because it was raining really hard and during alot of the other practices I would always say to myself in my head “you can do this, it doesn’t matter what place you get but as long as your running as fast and as hard as you can”.
Another thing that helped me was on the first run I realized that I was breathing kind of funny and that was probably the cause of the pain in stomach, so basically I researched a bit and I found like tips on how to breath when you run.
On the real day in the beginning I was pretty confident but I was a bit tired because I didn’t get much sleep but all in all in the beginning I was felt good and I felt like I could really push my limits. After the run I had a really sharp pain, and I also wasn’t really happy because almost at the end of the race I let like 4 people pass me and I thought I had gotten a bad time but it turned out I got alot less.
Above this is my line graph, I think we were suppose to do it on the computer but I tried many times and I just didn’t get how to make it so I did it on paper
.
I think I would give myself a 6 out of 8 for this unit because I tried hard on almost every practice and I think in the end it really paid off because I got around 1 or 2 minutes less on the final run from the beginning.
