Science This Year

This year in Science class we did a variety of different things such as experiments, text book work and documentaries. I really liked doing experiments because they were really interesting and useful. I really liked making crystals in class because it was a interesting experiment. I thought a lot about our experiment and how to do them. I also enjoyed the documentaries a lot. We learned a lot of information by watching a plant documentary. It was very interesting and it taught me loads of information about plants and how they do different things. the text book questions are also very useful. They teach us about science in detail with good words.

Over all I really enjoyed science and I can’t wait until I get to do it again.

English Movie Study Reflection

In English class we watched the movie Indiana Jones Raiders Of The Lost Ark. We then made a presentation about the movie and how it was made. We got put into groups to focus on one type of feature used in the movie. My group was the lighting and special effects group. The voice thread is a reflection on our presentation.

Drama Poems Reflection

This unit we learned about poems. First we looked at a poem called sweet lips and i found it very interesting because It talked about candy body parts. The next thing we did was getting into groups and finding some poems to act out. My group took two poems about water.

I learned about using your body to expressions to make my performance more interesting for the audience. We learned about making objects using different forms of our bodys as a group.

I think I could still improve on making some object better using my body. I could also improve on making my one movement to another look more smooth because sometimes my transitions look a bit stiff and unrehearsed.

Some things I still want to learn about is speaking in front of an audience with confidence and how to sound good even though we learned that I still need more practice.

Ueno Zoo Science Field Trip

What we did

In science we went to Ueno zoo to study animals and man–made and natural environment. The animal I looked at was the tiger.

The environment made for the tiger was a bit small but still seemed ok for the animal to live in. Inside the man made environment they had a small water fall watering hole type place. There were also some plants but i’m not sure if they were fake or not. They looked real but you can never know.

The tiger inside the environment looked a bit sad because it kept walking in circles for a long time and didn’t look very happy.

I think we zoos so we can learn, look and study other creatures. I think people want zoos so they can see new thing and learn about the creatures they have never seen before.

If I was an animal at the zoo I would be sad because in the wild you can hunt for food whenever your hungry but in the zoo you only get food when the people give you food. Also it would be disturbing because people would look at you a lot and the children would scream and you would have no peace.

I think they could improve the man–made environment by making the environments bigger or making only a limited amount of people to look at the tiger at a time.

I think we should have a zoo but a different type of zoo were there is just a really big place with real plants, water and no people can visit that place. I think this would make the tiger really happy.

National Museum Reflection

On may 8th we went to the Tokyo National Museum. We went there too look at the different thing they might have traded and if we could find information about the silk road. Before we went I expected to see a lot of information on the different sculptures and artifacts but there was not that much information. I had never been to the museum so maybe I got my hopes too high. Even though I was a bit disappointed about the amount of information I still enjoyed looking at all the different sculptures and artifacts that they had in the museum. The museum had some unusual sculptures and painting. I noticed that a lot of the sculptures were of people standing  up with one hand raised. These types of sculptures popped up a lot so I assume they have some special meaning to them. They might symbolize something. I also noticed two sculptures that had many arms and hands. The hands were also hold some small object so I think that also symbolizes something.

Like I said earlier there were two sculptures that had many arms. I found this very interesting so I decided to study it. Unfortunately there was not so much information on the display so I did not find so much information on this statue but I did observe the hands and arms a lot so I did find some interesting facts. I looked at the different thing that this person had in his/hers hands. I saw that one hand had a beaded bracelet and another hand had a small arrow from a bow and arrow. I think the bracelet could represent beauty of some sort and the arrow could represent strength or hunting. There were many more but these were the only ones I could actually see what it was because some of the thing the statue had in its hand were hard to see what were and they also looked very strange so maybe they were object they used long ago.

The first thing I noticed about the sculpture was not only the many hand it had but the small head on top of the large head. What i’m trying to say is that the sculpture looks like a normal person but with some small heads on its head and an abnormal amount of hands so that was quite interesting. As I said earlier I saw some interesting object that I did not know what were in the sculpture’s hands. I think the unknown object in the sculpture’s hands might be some type of ancient Japanese object that they used long ago. I saw one mysterious object that looked a but like a lamp or a lantern and I sometimes see some lanterns around Japan. I also saw that the the sculpture was made out of some type wood. This was interesting because most of the sculpture I saw in the museum were made out of bronze. The thing that is on my mind the most is what type of wood that the sculpture is made out of and were you can find that type of wood.

Another sculpture I saw was of what I think was a woman standing up with one hand raised. I read the description of the sculpture and saw that it was from the 11th century. I do not know a lot about 11th century Japan but judging by this sculpture it seems like it was a very special time for symbolism. I think this because since the sculpture’s hand is raised I think it would symbolize something. I think it might symbolize welcoming someone or something back or to somewhere. It could also mean goodbye because the hand is raised and usually when a hand is raised it usually mean hello or goodbye. While I was reading the description on the sculpture I saw that the sculpture  was made out of wood from polycromy. I am not sure what polycromy so I would like to know what that is and lear about it.

Moviemaking: Shots & Angles

In english class we got in groups and filmed a short movie with different angles. My partner was Elina.

We did this so we could see if we could see a story just by looking at a picture.

What worked was using the camera to catch different angles.

What did not work was that we did not have that manny shot of different angles.

During this I learned about the different angles and their names. I also learned about how important angles are to a story.

Some pictures taken from our video:

Drama Dance Reflection

In drama class we have been doing dance that relate to a song choice. We had to express our music though our dances. My partner was Anna.

Me and Anna’s song was about someone who made a robot to help with work but instead didn’t help. Also made it look like the robot stole the control and control the person who made the robot.

We tried to make our performance seem smooth and flow together. I think we were really balanced and that it flowed together. We used jerky and smooth movements and I feel it seemed very natural. At one point I made Anna sing to the lyrics of the song and it fit into the performance. We also started in the same place we began and in the same position.

At some point me and anna would argue about what to do next but we finally agreed by looking at what would flow more together.

I think we worked really well together. We mostly thought of the same ideas of what to do next. When we argued we usually fixed it.

I learned a lot about working together in a group and making things flow together very well. By watching another groups performance I learned how to use sport equipment in a performance.

Tutorial Create Reflection

In Technology class we had to make a tutorial and upload it to vimeo. My video was on how to draw a realistic face. My audience is people who like to draw or need help in some way to make a realistic face.

While making this tutorial I learned about editing. Before my final copy I had a draft and my draft was not as high quality as my final tutorial so I learned about editing and you should be afraid to ask someone for help. I also realized that making a tutorial on how to do something will help a lot of people in making a realistic face.

There were some things that I did and did not like about my tutorial. I liked how I filmed during the day and that made the film light and clear. I didn’t like that the video was blurry and hard to see.

It was difficult to make my tutorial because I did not have a stand for my camera so I had to ask someone to help me and it turned out blurry. It was also a bit easy because iMovie is simple to use.

I think I was on topic and focused. I did not talk about anything that was not related to my topic. I also thought my grammar was correct. I also thought my pace was slow so that made my tutorial clear.

I think I could still learn about better filming and editing the video more. My tutorial was blurry so this could really help.

I saw Sena and Helen‘s tutorial.Watching Sena’s tutorial I learned how to remember the letters in music. Watching Helen’s tutorial I learned how to splatter paint.

I learned a lot by making a tutorial like how to use iMovie and how to screen record. I felt I improved because I learned a lot to help me make my tutorial. I think my finished tutorial was ok but not the best. It was a bit blurry so I could have improved that.

Next Post

In P.E. class we have been doing gymnastics. We learned about different skills and new movements. We also had to make a group and make a performance based on what we learned in the last couple of weeks.

In my groups performance we did front rolls, log rolls, round offs, cartwheels, used the jumping board and we had to have a double pose and a single pose.

I think my groups movement flowed together at some parts but other part it was kind of awkward to move from one part to another. My movements also seemed a bit awkward getting from one part to another.

I found the most challenging skill was using the jumping board. I was a bit scared to find out what we had to do on the jumping board but when I tried I did it. The part I found challenging was doing a front flip.

I am proud of myself because after seeing everyone els do a front flip I finally did it and now I think doing front flips are really fun.

Like I said earlier I found the most enjoyable part was doing front flips. I was happy that I was scared of doing front flips but now I find them fun.

When me and my group were planning our performance we worked well. We were on task and made an effort. Some part of our performance we  had to change but that shows we really thought about what we were doing and wanted to do well.

If I had to improve my performance I would try to improve my transition from one part to another. I would also improve my front rolls because they looked a bit messy.

Over all I really enjoyed doing this and I learned a lot of thing I could use in the future.
