It was the first day of field studies, well not really because we had to catch the bus but anyway. We woke up early because we had to be at school from 6:00 to 6:45 am to catch the bus. We had to everything ready before we got on the bus because it was a 4-7 hour ride.

On the bus.

When we got on the bus, Juulia, Rhiannu, Sophia, Josefine, Annamaria and I all raced to the back to get the best seats! As we were getting our things sorted out, Juulia and I realised that you could rotate the seats in the back so that they can face the middle. When we got it set up it looked really cool. When we got to the campsite, we had a talk about how we’re going to set up, what we’re going to do, etc. After the talk we had to make our tents. We were the first people to finish but maybe that’s because Alexi helped us. When we’d all put up our tents, it was time for the orienteering activity. What we did on that activity was we had to find clues and the clues and a number of degrees on them eg, 180˚, so then we had to use a compass so that we could find the clues and get to the end first. When we were in the middle of the hike we saw the boys walking back because Peter lost his camera case. Funnily enough the boys told us to go forward because that was the right way. That was when we started running so that we could get a big lead. But when we got to the end, we found that there was no path because it was all long thick grass. The boys had led us the wrong way! Luckily, our guide knew the way. it turns out that we had to go down a little hill to the right. Now we were in front of everyone! We could see the hill that led to the campsite, we sprinted to the road that led down to the actual campsite and found that we were the first team to get there. WOOHOO! When everyone got back we were so excited. But there was only one problem, where was the last group? Could they have fallen down somewhere? or could they have been eaten by a bear or a bitten by a snake? But no. They were lost. It was around 5:30 when we heard people running down the hill, Then we saw the missing group appear. They were happy to see there friends. After dinner, it was time for us to get ready for bed. The only problem with us getting to sleep was because people were talking in the other tents. Then Ms Clifford heard them and told them to be quiet because other people were trying to get to sleep. The first day was pretty exciting. I loved the things we did and I loved being with all my friends.

I think that I was a risk-taker by having a try at using a compass, because I had never learnt how to use a compass before and also by building a tent because all-though this wasn’t the first time that I’ve been camping, it was the first time that I had ever built a tent.
