If I were an MYP teacher the subjects that I would want to teach would be Humanities and PE
The unit question that I would make up/choose would be ”Why do natural disaster occur and is there a way we can control or prevent some dangers?”. The students would make models and keynote presentations of what natural disaster can do if we don’t act (when I say act I mean if we don’t become more cautious of our country, planet or area) and the damage and how it affects the human race. This unit that I’m describing would probably be related to science because we study about the tectonic plates and the ring of fire, how earthquakes are caused, etc. The area of inquiry would be environments because humanities is part of studying about environments and also human ingenuity because humanities is basically history so we study about early humans and inventions that changed human lives.
The unit question that I would choose or PE would be ”Why should I learn all these skills just to play a sport?”. I chose that question because it would make people think and possibly try to learn more about it. For a project I would take them up in pairs of two or single so that they can show the skills that they’ve learnt and also I’d make them right a reflection about why it is important to use those skills and when you would use them. The area of learning would be approaches to learning because in PE you need to learn the basics before you get serious with the sport.

My name is Charlotte and I am three quarters Australian and one quarter Welsh. I am eleven years old and I am a girl. My favourite sports are futsal, soccer, basketball and so much more. I especially like tennis because my Great Uncle Dawson played in Wimbledon and that is why I’m so inspired to play tennis.
My favourite school subjects are PE, tech, science, math, humanities and english. The reason I like these subjects is because I can finish homework easily and confidently. Right now in PE, we are doing a unit about soccer. I am really liking this unit because it gives everyone a chance to join in and they don’t have to sign up like an activity. In tech we are working on our blog and trying to achieve our ”How to grow a blog plan” goals. We have just finished our first assessment in science class. It was mainly just about what is it called when a solid is turned in to a liquid or what is it called when a solid turns in to a gas and it keeps going on and on and on. in math we are learning about long-division, fractions and algebra. Humanities we are finishing a slideshow about a place that we think is the opposite to Japan and I chose Paupa New Guinea. And finally, in english, we are just finishing doing a podcast for our sakura medal book which will be posted when finished on to Ms Cox’s blog: blogs.yis.ac.jp/coxm/
Now, I also like to read books. My favourite author is Roald Dahl because he uses words in a creative way and the characters that he comes up with are hilarious (and the illustrations by Quentin Blake as well).
Another thing that I also like is music. Right now I am learning the koto (the Japanese harp) and I am finding some things or should I say techniques reasonably difficult to perfect. But I am really enjoying learning it and I hope to continue. I also like playing the drums, piano and the claranet.
I hope that you have enjoyed reading my about me page and please subscribe!!
Hey guys, here is my drama video that we made.
The game that we’re playing is called ‘Space Jump’. What you do is the first person starts a scene and then another person needs to say SPACE JUMP and then the person that started the scene freezes and then the person that called space jump goes in and starts a whole new scene that is different to the one that the person before did. If you want to play space jump, just continue the instructions above.
Here is the video:
If you liked that video, here is another one called Story, Story, Die.
How do you play this game?
You need 3-7 people. Choose a topic that you can make a story out of. One person says 1-2 sentences and then the person that gets chosen next has to continue the story but if you say um or you pause for a while, then you are out till’ you start another round.
Here is the video:
My strengths in space jump were coming up with things fast but I think that they weren’t always the best things to say. My weakness would be changing the subject or ending the story to fast, also making it random.
My strength in story story die was that I could come up with things fast and improvise and I think that my weekness was I seemed to repeat some things except I also changed the subject again.

This is my table showing my times and feelings about cross country
|5/10/2011||Negishi park||17:13||This day it was the first practice. It was cold and raining. I was kind-of nervous that I was going to catch a cold. When I was running my leg started hurting a lot and it made me feel like giving up, but I kept on going till’ the end.|
|7/10/2011||Negishi park||17:54||Today was my second worst time. I felt quite disapointed with myself because I was hoping to improve my time. But I knew that I was going to improve my time next practice.|
|12/10/2011||Negishi park||20:03||DO NOT believe what I said in the post before. The reason that I came 2nd last and got a really bad time was because I fell and rolled my ankle and something had gone wrong. And it still hurts to this day. I felt again really disapointed in myeslf.|
|14/10/2011||Negishi park||17:13||This practice I felt really proud of myself because I had improved my time by a landslide (compared to my time before). Even though it was the same time that I got when we had our first practice, I felt really proud.|
|2/11/2011||Negishi park||17:03||In this practice I felt really energetic, I don’t know why but I just felt like running a bit faster that day.|
|4/11/2011||Negishi park||16:36||The night before this run, I had pasta for dinner. It is good to have some carbohydrates because they take a while to digest and give your body energy.|
|9/11/2011||Negishi park||16:15||To be honest, for this run, I just wanted to get it over with because I knew that I had to save my energy if I wanted to run fast the next day.|
|10/11/2011||Negishi park||15:02||This is the actual day. I was having mixed feelings about it though. I felt both nevous and excited but also another part of me just wanted to throw up. I was actually excited though because we were going to be able to have the chance to see and meet students from Ishinomaki that had come to run with us. In the end, I felt happy and proud of myself for achieving my goal to run under 60 seconds.|
My main outcome goal for cross country was I wanted to complete my two laps on the actual day in less then 15 minutes. Unfortunately, my time for the actual day was 15:02. I was so close. But I felt proud of myself because I almost completed my goal and I tried my best. My process goal to complete my outcome goal was, that I wouldn’t go running outside of school but I would put all my effort in to running in the practices so that I would see if my times improve or not. My other proces goal was to run for the Ishinomaki students because everyone was really scared on the March 11th but just imagining how scared they would have been, being in the tsunami, the earthquake being much stronger and knocking more things over then it dod here in Yokohama, and also losing there school and I think it was two of there students. So when you think about what they’ve been through compared to us, you just feel like giving back and helping them, but your thinking, not doing. So the least that I could have done is by a t-shirt to raise money to get them tickets for the train to come and see us, donate some money for their school and to run for them.
For this unit, I would definitely give myself an 8 because I worked hard to achieve my goal and I felt really inspired and confident about running!
Thank-you for reading.
In technology class, we have been talking about making our blogs better and what we can do. The first thing that we did was we drew a design of what we wanted our blog to look like. We couldn’t make the design to un-realistic because if we could, we were going to make that design our actual blog design.
I really enjoyed doing this unit because it gave us a chance to show our creativity and what we can do. After we drew the designs, we had to do a worksheet on Word called “How to grow a blog plan”. What we did in the word document was we wrote about what we can do to make our blog better and what our goal was. My goal was that I wanted other countries and people to look and subscribe to my blog.
I chose the certain theme that I made for my blog because, I liked the way that it has a dark background, but the header stands out because the background is black, (except I forgot to colour in the background in my drawing) and the header and writing is orange. To make my blog grow, I would like to learn how to add certain things or widgets to my blog, such as adding other peoples blog links to my sidebar and adding a flickr photos page to my sidebar as well.
I plan on learning these skills by other people that are my friends in other grades or people in my grade that are really good with blogs and technology.
Thank-you for reading and I will talk to you next time.
Today we did a project on density.
We put sand in a container and it was more dense then water so it sank but it was less dense then salt water so when we put the salt in to the water, the container floated.
The unit that we are just finishing is called ” Look at me: Portrait drawing”. The project that we had to do for this project was we had to draw a beginning of ourselves so that we could see the difference for when we drew our final portrait. After we drew our beginning portrait, Mr Curkovic taught us how to draw all of the things on our faces correctly meaning he taught us how to draw our eyes, mouth, etc, the way that an artist does.
During this unit I have made a lot of progress because my first drawing looked like an ugly cartoon that a three year old had drawn and now I have drawn a portrait of myself that looks like it was drawn by a sixth grader. The easy part was drawing the basic things such as eyes, eyebrows, nose, mouth, etc. But the absolute hardest part was shading. We had to shade everything exactly the way it looked in the photo. Also doing the hair was really hard because I have quite a few highlights that stand out. My strength for this unit would be the mouth. Because I felt like I made it look realistic with the highlight at the bottom and the top of my lips. My weakness was probably shading because I don’t think I made it blend in enough with the whole face and I had trouble trying to make the nose look like my actual nose. I think that observational skills helped me by making me look to see what I need to change and how much. An example is, I needed to change my nose so I looked at the picture and thought about what I needed to change about it. I decided that It was to small and needed more shading.
Thank-you for reading and I hope you liked my drawing.
