What makes music sound like it belongs to a particular part of the world?

On Thursday, we had some visitors from the music department, show us some traditional Japanese instruments. My favorite instrument was the koto because I liked how you can change the pitch and the volume of the instrument so easily and also I like how you have three picks that go in your fingers.

Something that surprised me about the koto was that there were so many different genres of music that you could play with it whereas I thought that you could only play traditional music. My favorite piece was the wind piece because it sounded really cool and the koto showed a different range of techniques such as tsukui and sha sha ten. It made me feel relaxed. What I think makes this piece sound Japanese it the way it sounds. The koto has this sort of long tone note and the shamisen sounded like a twangy sound and the shakuhachi sounded soft and sounded like it had a lot of wind going through it.

G7 “Make Your Mark” Line Drawing

In art class, we have been working line drawings. Over the past twelve weeks we have been researching about different techniques to use in our final drawing. We did a art criticism in week six. What we did for the art criticism was we compared a Vincent Van Gogh line drawing and a Albrecht Dürer line drawing and we had to critique the different techniques they used and the differences between the artists. We started drafting our final line drawing in week six.

I started by planning out what pictures I am going to use in my final line drawing by putting all these different pictures together and putting them in different places to see where they looked their best. This is the file that I put the pictures in that I used in my final drawing:

I think that I put the different pictures in the right places because it makes me feel like they have their own place. Some of my strengths were:

  • Changing the gradation from dark to light
  • The line techniques
  • Showing the level in the tracks
  • Showing the difference between dark vs light
  • Showing the different perspectives
  • The Shading
  • Gradation
  • Appropriate use of the line techniques on the grass and the tracks
  • Showing how it gets darker as it goes back
  • Stippling
  • How I made the kangaroo look realistic
  • Grass
  • The different textures

These strengths were also ones that my peers gave me. Some weaknesses that I think I have and that my peers thought I had were:

  • The lines in the sky just looked the same most of the time
  • The outline of the kangaroo was too thick
  • The hot air balloon didn’t have enough gradation
  • Some people thought that I overused the stippling technique
  • The kangaroo blended in with the ground
  • The clouds didn’t look like clouds
  • And for some people, I didn’t really make it clear that the stippling in the grass was the sand and dirt
  • I used a ruler for the lines in the sky

I agree with the criticism that my peers gave me but some of the things I didn’t think about and it was to late to fix them. I think that I used some really effective techniques and I am really proud of my line drawing. It shows how much effort I put into my work and I really love how everybody in the class was critiquing it.

En el invierno, me gusta pasar tibia.

En el invierno, me gusta más observar la pelicula.

A mi hermana menor le gusta el invierno.

A mi no me gusta el invierno.

La primavera

En la primavera, los ropas es muy bonita y colorida.

Me gusta las coloridas floreceras.

Me gusta la primavera.

En la primavera, tengo que llevar la chaqueta, los pantalones o los pantalones cortos, la camisa, de vez en cuando la blusa, y los calcetines.

Mi madre y padre y yo les gustamos la primavera.

Student Lead Conferences (Science)

The piece that I am really proud of in science is my elements poster. I did elements poster on gold (AU). I think that my elements poster is really good because I showed how much I learnt during the unit (Chemistry) and I used a lot of the scientific vocabulary such as compound, element, molecule, etc. Though, if I were to improve in one area of my poster, I would try to add more information about how gold is found and what is is used for and why? I am quite proud of my work because I tried to gather as much information as I could and I proof read it to make sure that the information that I gather made sense. I really enjoyed making this poster because I got to tell my parents all about my class and about everything that we are doing.

International rules football

In P.E, we have been learning about international rules football. At first we just started out with Australian Football which was the main idea to our game. After we got really good at aiming where we kicked the ball and with passing, we started introducing different rules from different ball sports like gaelic football where we introduced the rule of you are only allowed to take four steps, bounce the ball and then take four steps again and you have to either pass or shoot. For our summative assessment, we have to find a video showing good sportsmanship and poor sportsmanship. I found two videos of poor sportsmanship because I couldn’t decide.

In this video, a famous Australian football player for the Sydney Swans punches another player from the West Coast Eagles. I think that if you are losing, this is a bad way to react especially if you are famous because it can ruin your reputation which is what happened to Barry Hall.

Psycho Girl:

This video was of a girl soccer player that is the roughest in the league, when she gets frustrated by someone or if they are losing, she lets her feelings out with violence and hurting other people.

Good Sportsmanship:

This video is of a boys soccer game. So what happened was that the goalie shook the person taking the penalty’s hand because he missed and it was to show appreciation for the team and to show that he did a good job.

Bullying

Bullying is using a superior strength or possibly influence to intimidate someone which forces the person being bullied to do the the bully wants them to do. Bully’s are made not born.

Ways to deal with bullying is that you should know when to walk away and try not to be intimidated by them. Don’t get all angry and start a fight because that is all that the bully wants is to see you being aggravated and then they know that they are succeeding and that you are a easy target so they will just keep on bullying you. Try to stay with people if you are being bullied because bully’s don’t often pick on people if they are in a group. If the bullying gets serious like there is punching and stuff then you should probably tell someone because they can help you before you get hurt. Tell someone like a parent, teacher, guidance counselor.

Some reasons why people bully are:

Having family problems
Being bullied themselves
Being selfish or spoilt and always want to get their own way
Having no friends and feel lonely
Feeling bad about themselves and want to make other feel bad too
Taking out their own frustration on others
Feeling insecure and unimportant – bullying gives them power
Not understanding how bad victims feel

I think that depending on how bad the bully has been should be based on his consequences,
but i think that if I were to give a punishment, i would say internal suspension or a lot of detention.

Bullying is a big issue in the world because many people go into depression and then they start harming themselves. Everybody always says that a bully becomes a bully because of the parents. Sometimes that is the case but most of the time it isn’t. A you are more likely to become a bully by being bullied from your past or you are being bullied by someone or black mailed. My point is, is that there are many ways to become a bully but why do you bully other people if you don’t like being bullied.
