DYI reflection

7A Drama: DIY Programs5 from YIS Arts on Vimeo.

Our target audience was teenagers and you can know that because we do not have soft voices and don’t use kiddish language.

My best skill was to talk without pausing but I wish I could have talked more slow and clear.

This is the group that I thought was group because you can know that its a kids show and talks slow and clear.

The roads of journey to the Real World

We have been on many roads and on this journey for a very long time. We finished reading ‘Journey to Jo’burg’ before christmas and still doing the same unit, but the unit started before that. We did a lot of things like we made magazine articles, watched Invictus, Shane came and talked about apartheid and rewrote ‘Time of fire’. The unit question was What are the relationships between texts and the real world but at this case it is What are the relationships between Journey to Jo’burg and the real world (apartheid). If you think about it, there is lots of relationships with books and he real world, even fiction books.

The first road we had to go through was to read Journey to Jo’burg. It wasn’t that hard. Journey to Jo’burg is a story based on during apartheid. Its about two kids Naledi and Tiro walking 300 kilometers to get to there mother so that their mother can get Naledi’s baby sister, Dinero to a doctor. What I learnt from the this book was that the characters in this book might not be true but that some of the events that happened in this book, happened in apartheid.

The second road was a bit harder to go through. We had four people in each table and we each chose 1 topic out of four to make a magazine article. The topics were Soweto Uprising, Nelson Mandela, South Africa and Apartheid. I chose the topic Nelson Mandela. So all the people who chose the topic Nelson Mandela got into a group. I heard of the name Nelson Mandela but I didn’t know a lot about him. We did some research about him and we all each made an magazine article. This is my Magazine Article. I learnt that Nelson Mandela was in Jail for 27 years and then became the president of South Africa.

This road was the easiest to go through. We watched the movie Invictus, it was a good movie. The movie was about how Nelson Mandela got the white people and black people together and stopped apartheid. Even though I was researching about him, I found out more about how Nelson Mandela stopped apartheid.

After that Mr.Fedley’s friend Shane, visited school and talked about apartheid. Shane was born/grew during apartheid in South Africa and saw apartheid from a different perspective since he grew up as a white. He told that he didn’t know apartheid was happening when he was young since the media was very strict and Afrikaan people lived very far away from him. What I learnt that was surprising  was that some Afrikaan people liked apartheid. Just by reading Journey to Jo’burg I thought that every Afrikaan people hated apartheid but I was wrong some people liked it.

Then we rewrote ‘Time of fire’ (Chapter 11 of Journey to Jo’burg). We rewrote using our knowledge on the book and the apartheid, made it more detailed and put more feeling into it, but there was one problem, it had to be present tense. Which was very hard for me. Before everyone handed in their work, everyone got checked each other for mistakes or feedback. When people were checking mine, they found so many mistakes and 90% was that the words/sentences were PAST TENSE. It was a challenging work for me.

The Journey has almost come to an end, this unit has made to think about more about past on apartheid and the connection between the books that I read and the real world. I think I got better at writing in present tense but I know that  I learnt a lot in this unit.

7A Drama Informative speech Reflection

This is my Drama Informative Speech. My topic was about Holiday. I think my pace was a bit too fast and words are kinds of hard to hear. I had some pauses and could have been a bit louder.

I wasn’t using the palm card that much but I was using my hand or moving around too much. Also My speech structure was well ordered.

My best skills Volume, I was able to speak loud enough so that every one can hear.

I should improve on my posture because I kept moving around so much so I think I should stop moving.

Journey to Jo’burg and the real world

In English class we just finished reading Journey to Jo’burg (Also finished watching Invictus). We had our unit question which is “What is the relationship between text and the real world?” We changed the question to this: “What is the relationship between Journey to Jo’burg and the real world during apartheid?” Here are my ideas:

Childhood and Health

During apartheid a lot of children died at a young age. At that time white people got better houses, education and food, so that means that the black people didn’t get good medication, food or education. So when a child becomes sick they couldn’t get medication so most of them die. So Journey to Jo’burg is about Naledi and Tiro goes to Jo’burg to get their mother so Naledi can her little baby sister Dineo.

Employment

The black people always got dangerous job, like in the book Naledi’s father died in a gold mine and didn’t get a lot of money, but the white people didn’t work hard but was still wealthy. Mostly black people were working for white people.

Class Idea

This is what my class thinks about the book and the real world

“What is the relationship between text and the real world?” for me I think any book can connect to the real world (even the fiction book)

Art Reflection

This is a reflection of my art work.

My art work isn’t done but I couldn’t finish on time so this is what I got.

First we watched a video about water colour painting and after that we drew 10 different techniques. We drew outside with sharpies for 2 class. Then we went out side again and drew in colour pencil. The next class we used water colour painting. Then we showed a partner my painting and graded each other and told me to use more water colour techniques.

I only used 2 drawing techniques and didn’t put textures. I don’t think Any thing is good about this art work.

Next time I would like to put textures and more drawing techniques.

Technology Reflection

This is a blog post about the video that I made. We made 4 essentials specification (3 things that must have in the video) and 4 Desirable Specification (3 things that you want to have in a video). My 4 desirable Specification was 1. For the video to be funny, 2. For each scene to be at least 15 second, 3. To add music, 4. To not have to camera shake so much.  My 4 essentials Specification was 1. It must be interesting and entertaining, 2. It must be school appropriate, 3. It must be over 3 minutes, 4. The Introduction must  have a hook. My first desirable Specification was For the video to be funny because making interesting and entertaining was one of the essential specification. I wanted my scene to be 15 seconds each because if one scene is too long it will be boring and if it is too short the video won’t go for 3 minutes and won’t be funny. I wanted to have video in my music because that makes it interesting and entertaining than just listening to me talk for more than 3 minutes. For the fourth desirable specification I wanted the camera not to be shaking so much because the last video that I made was shaking so much that I could see want was happening. Here the video if you want to see it.

When I made the desirable specification I got some feed back for each desirable. One of the feedback for  2. For each scene to be at least 15 second, was not to make everything 15 seconds like in the last part of the video I put “THE END” but if that kept on going for 15 seconds it would be boring, so I didn’t make everything 15 second.  The other feedback I got for 4. To not have to camera shake so much, was to have someone else record for you or use a tripod, I didn’t use the tripod but I did have someone record for me (but not the same camera man as the last video).

To make a Good video you need to have a Design Cycle. These are the steps of the Design Cycle, 1.Investigate, 2.Design, 3.Plan, 4.Create, 5. Evaluate.

1.Investigate

In the investigate we had to investigate what makes a good video and the best tool to make a video. I used imovie and Garage Band but I did try other things like Photo peach, Prezi and Voice Thread, but none of these were good for me since mine was a video. I did pretty in good in Investigate. For every part of the cycle I need to add more detail.

2. Design

In the design we had to choose out of 3 topic that I made (everybody had their OWN 3 topic) and choose the tool that we were going to use. I chose the topic “How I live with my siblings”. This Design was kind of easy but didn’t put enough detail.

3. Plan

In the Plan we made our Storyboard, Script and our 3 essential specification and 3 desirable specification. For the storyboard we had to draw it (If you know me I am not good at drawing) so I did really bad in this part of the cycle. Here is one of the picture of my Storyboard

4. Create

Well for create we created the video. I was able to finish recording on time and did go as planned so I didn’t have any problems in create. I like my video and I am proud of it.

5. Evaluate

Well for evaluate we have to write a blog post of what we think about our video and talk about the Design Cycle. Which is this blog post.

Unit Question:  “How can we use media to communicate our stories?”

Well we can communicate with them by video, picture and words, but it isn’t easy to communicate our stories if you are just putting pictures, you have to words to make our stories make sense. So after all we can communicate in a lot of ways but best not to use only one.
