This was our first task, to create a straight line in the position/time graph. To achieve this we stood still and let the motion detector run until the end:
The last simple one we were “challenged” with was to make a downward line on the graph. To do this I started far away and walked toward the monitor:
For the first difficult task we were to make a zigzag line on the monitor, this was difficult as it would require some more movement. What we did was we held the monitor facing away from the wall and passed our hands quickly back and forth through the monitor’s field of data collection:
Then we got to the point where we had to download graphs which had built in line/trend to imitate. For this line I slowly backed off, stopped, slowly came forward, and finally stopped:
The next trend was more difficult to achieve as there were closer and more precise movements to make. I made sure to start off far away and not to rush while closing in, I stopped and when there was the sharp fall I quickly stepped forward and stopped just after. Then there was a slow ascent so I slowly backed off.
These last two were the velocity vs. time graphs and so they were much more difficult to replicate because of the space we were using and finding out the exact speeds. For the first graph there were two quick jumps, one moving away and one moving towards. When I walked backwards I tried my best to keep the same constant velocity throughout.
In this final graph I had to walk away with increasing speed and finally walk towards the detector at a constant speed.
