GCD Intercultural communication

For this criterion, I will talk about the two languages that intermingle in my mind: Japanese and English.

English is not my mother tongue.  I started learning English when I was in kindergarten and in the beginning Japanese dominated my thoughts and emotions. Eventually, when English took a role in my process of thinking, I began to notice the difference in which how I think. The two languages shape my thoughts and actions on daily basis.  When I’m writing an English essay, for example, I would often think in English but sometimes Japanese kicks in too, especially when that concept and connotation is difficult to be expressed in English. In this case, I must stop and reflect on each language and communicate within my mind to extract the perfect outcome.

Being bilingual, I notice how different languages shape us and how we perceive the world.
