Tokyo National Museum Reflection!

3 days ago which was April 23rd, we went on a field trip to the Ueno Zoo and Tokyo National Museum. First we went to the zoo and then went to the Tokyo National Museum. These two places were very close so we walked to the museum from the zoo. But to the zoo, we went by train. We rode on the train from Ishikawachou Station.

I never went to this museum and I don’t really go to these places. I was expecting to see ancient things and I did. My legs were tired from the long walk at the zoo and the basketball practice I had before that day.

At the museum, we had to choose 3 to 5 things. I chose 4 things and one was Netsuke Dragon Drum design wood. It was one of the wood carvings in the museum called Netsuke. And the one I chose was shaped like a dragon drum. It was very small and I thought it was very impressive because it was very detailed. This work was a gift from Mr. Go Seinosuke. It is from the Edo period (18th century). This work reminded me of wood toys and sculptures in Germany. I think this work connects to China because it’s a dragon and dragons were originally from China. I learned that ancient Japanese people made these things and even now people make these too.

In Humanities, we did a assignment for the unit Man and Earth. We chose a biome we wanted to research on and then made a model of the houses built in the tundra in Minecraft. The biome I chose is Tundra. I did it with my friend called Emily.

This is a example of a house built in a tundra:

This is the model we made :

Tundra is snowy, and VERY cold.  Their houses are small and mostly made out of trees. The average temperature in winter is about -30 F. In tundra, it is a harsh winter but is cool in the summer. Tundra climate is usually between the 60-75 degree latitude lines. Tundra climate is mainly found along the coast of the Arctic Ocean.

There are lots of snow animals (Owls, polar bear, Ovibos, Arctic foxes etc. The animals that live in Tandra have lots of thick hair/fur on their bodies to keep them warm. Most of the plants in Tundra are low shrubs and trees such as dwarf willows and birches. Mosses are also one of the plants in Tundra.

I thought using Minecrsft was really fun and easy to use. (But it takes a little bit of time to get used to it) It doesn’t take much time to finish things if we get used to it and I enjoyed it alot. Also, there are many types of blocks to build, decorations and more so we could build many types of structures.  I was able to learn a lot of things and I want to use Minecraft again. It was fun and was quite easy to build things.

January Goal Setting :)

What important things happened in your personal life or school life in the last year?                                 One of the most important things that happened is Field Studies. Also, we got into middle school.

What was good or special about it?                                                                                                                                        It was fun and we did activities we never did and also, I was able to talk to people who I really didn’t talk before. Also, it was my first time to stay in a place without my parents for 5 days. And in middle school, there are many classes compared to elementary school and lots of homework.

How did you grow or change?                                                                                                                                                                                                               I got used to more homework (kind of) and I think I am more responsible with my things.

How did your life change?                                                                                                                                                                                                                     Now, I have to spend more time on my homework and compared to before, I’m a little busy. Also, there are lots of things to learn.

Did you learn anything or decide anything that was really important?                                                                                                                                                                                         I learned about chemicals and other things in Science, making blogs in Tech, about Human and other things in Humanities, basic spanish in Spanish, new vocabularies in English and a LOT more.

Did you go anywhere or do anything that was really important or interesting?                                                                                                                                                                                       I went to San Francisco for my first time.    🙂

My first goal is to be able to do a spike and a serve really well in volleyball. This goal is important to me because  I like volleyball and I want to be in the B team next year. Also, I am doing volleyball right now in P.E. so I want to be better at it. The benefits of achieving this goal are being able to do a spike and a serve really good in games. And also can go in B team. I would like to achieve this goal by praticing a lot. The steps I will take to achieve this goal are practice volleyball with my sister at a park every week.

My second goal is to be able to play Nihon no Warabe Uta without stopping in Koto. This goal is important to me because in koto, we are playing the piece Nihon no Warabe Uta and I want to play it without getting mixed up and stopping. The benefits of achieving this goal are being able to play the piece smoothly and not have problems. I would like to achieve this goal by practicing a lot at my home. The steps I will take to achieve this goal are playing the koto more than 3 times a week and practice the parts I can’t do really good.

My goal is to get better at English. This goal is important to me because I want to get better at writing essays and other writing. The benefits of achieving this goal are getting higher grades. I would like to achieve this goal by reading many books.

Early Humans Talk Show

This is a video of a project we did in humanities. First, we chose our species. Our choices were Australopithecus Afarensis, Homo Habilis/Boisei, Neanderthal, and Homo Sapiens. Homo Sapiens were the interviewer. After that, we got into groups which had all these species.

The interviewers wrote introductions and conclusions and the people who were the other species gathered information about their own species and wrote questions for the interview. I was the Homo Habilis so I researched for information like what they eat, where they live, who, where, and when the fossils were found and more. After we finished finding the answers to the questions, we practiced with our groups and got ready. Finally, we filmed our interviews.

I liked where I got to know many facts about Homo Habilis and made funny scenes with my group. I think I could have spoken a little louder and look at the interviewer more. I thought it was fun and interesting to do interviews that we needed to be a different character than we are always and also look at other people’s interviews.
