Define the biome and its climate. What makes it different from other biomes?
Tundra: Tundra is the most coldest in the biomes. One of the characteristics of the Tundra is that there is a Large population. Another characteristic is that they only have a short season of growth and they have a low biotic diversity. There are three types of tundra: Alpine Tundra, Arctic Tundra and the Antarctic Tundra. The land is mostly flat with no trees. Below the ground there is soil called permafrost that stays frozen for most of the year.
Describe the biome’s plant and animal life. How have the plants and animals adapted to fit the biome?
Alpine Tundra: The plants and animals are well adopted and they are very similar to the arctic ones. For example, in the Alpine Tundra a lot of mountain goats live and they are surefooted for rocky mountains and they have thick fur to protect themselves from the coldness. Most of the animals have white fur so that they can cover in with the snow.
List some good examples of places where this biome is found on the Earth. Canada,Norway, Finland, Sweden, Russia, Iceland, Greenland, Alaska
Describe – What real buildings are good examples of traditional life in this biome? Who built them and when? (add some pictures and sources if possible)
Where building materials such as wood, stone and brick are not available. For centuries, the Inuit people used igloos as temporary houses. Although a house made of snow might seem too cold to be comfortable, igloos actually act like a large snow blanket, trapping body heat. An igloo can reach temperatures of up to 50 degrees inside.
Explain – what features of the building show that the people adapted to live in that particular biome?
1. Dome- shape shelter made out of snow blocks and the blocks.
2.The blocks were cut from the snow, and piled in a spiral shape, leaning in slightly. 3.This gave the igloo its dome shape.
4.Soft snow was used to fill any holes, and add extra insulation.
5.Depending on the size of the igloo, it usually took the Inuit 20-30 minutes to build.
6.Larger, more permanent igloos could reach 4 metres in diameter and 3 metres in height. Sleeping platforms were made of ice blocks, covered with fur.
(Extra credit /Early finishers:) How would you design a new house or other living space for living well in this biome? What special features, materials, etc. would it have, and why?
We would design our house by making a temporary, dome- shape shelter made out of snow blocks and the blocks. The blocks were cut from the snow, and piled in a spiral shape, leaning in slightly. This gave the igloo its dome shape. Soft snow was used to fill any holes, and add extra insulation. Depending on the size of the igloo, it usually took the Inuit 20-30 minutes to build. Larger, more permanent igloos could reach 4 metres in diameter and 3 metres in height. Sleeping platforms were made of ice blocks, covered with fur.
How did you feel about the use of Minecraft to model the structure? How did the collaboration on your structure go? Would you rather have done it using a different format (photos, drawings, etc.)? Would you want to use Minecraft in connection to other projects in the future? Why or why not?
I felt about using Minecraft was fun but I think Minecraft was a little disturbing to people like the boys in class. I think our igloo was pretty good. I think it was good to be partners because you don’t have to do all the questions and building. I think minecraft was good to build a building because its not that hard than drawing a igloo. I think like if we our unit was about Areas then we can build a building. I think that will help and have some fun because its good if we have balance of fun and working.
My hobby is cheerleading. So I’ll pick a tutorial call “How to do a Back Handspring”. I chose“How to do a Back Handspring“ because in cheerleading class I am trying to do a back handspring and I want to know more about how I can do a handspring more nicely. I learned from this video that you can’t just stretch your body, you have a way if you’re doing a Back Handspring. That is arms, nickel, neck up and down. And After that you need to do a bridge and that will help us all the muscle that we need for the skill. For this tutorial it make a good video by introduced the topic before she started. This is good because you will know what we are going to do, and the teacher told us and show us how we are going to do a Back Handspring. That is good because it will help people to not get injured and doing the wrong thing. I think for me, it was difficult or it would been helpful by doing a slow motion 2 times. That way we/me will know more exactly how we can do it .
