Welcome XD

SHAKA city is the best XD

Wanna go to a place where it makes your dream come true? Well…. Let us introduce our city.

SHAKA !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 🙂

In the center there is a big hospital so when someone needs to go, wherever you are in the city, it would be close to you. In the hospital there are 10000 rooms, heliport in case there is an emergency. There are four roads connected to the main hospital so that there can be people coming from outside of the city can come, and there are 5000 parking spots so that people can come without constraint. There is a humongous natural park in the other half of the hospital for better air in the hospital.  Every building has a solar panel so that we can stay eco-friendly. Next year, we are planning to make a power plant that makes electricity using the fire made from the burning garbage.

The city also includes police stations on each corner, limiting the crime in the area. However, the police stations are further away from the educational centers and schools, to prevent intimidating or scaring the children, yet still keeping them safe. In addition to the parks and many nature walks, the city park provides a variety of religious buildings for peaceful and calm retreats including a Church, a Shrine and a Mosque. Next year, we plan to add in a variety of religious building next year, depending on the many people’s religions and beliefs living in our city.

In this corner, there is a mall almost as big as the hospital, and in there, there are all types of shops, such as supermarkets, toy stores, fashion stores, game centers, cinemas and more. It is because if there are the shops all in one place, the citizens wouldn’t have to move around to go to the shops.

Near the mall, there would be the school of the city. That includes places from kindergarten to university. We made everything close because then we can have a larger campus, and the citizens wouldn’t have to change the way they go to school. We made the mall near the schools because in school the students would need to buy supplies and it would be easier for people to buy supplies if the mall is near the school.

We made an apartment that is shaped like a circle because in the center, there would be shops, and so that all parts would be close to the shops in the center. In the center, there are shops such as supermarkets, sports center, and restaurants. On the top of the apartment, there would be lots of solar panels for the apartment and the whole city. There are 7 towers to the apartments, A-G so that lots of people could live in the city. We made it all in one building because then everyone is close to each other, and people can be close to eachother. Around the apartment, we put a natural park around it for good natural environment.

Next to the schools and the apartment, there is a natural beach where there are lots of sea animals living there. In a certain area of the beach, people would be able to interact with the animals there. Near the beach, we are planning to add gift shops, supermarkets, and restaurants so that people can buy souvenirs and food for the beach. Next to the beach, there would be a theme park so that the visitors or the citizens of the city would be able to play without being bored. In the theme park, there would be attractions such as roller coasters, ferris wheels, haunted houses and more. Near the beach and the theme park, there would be an aquarium the so the same reason we set the theme park, and also so that the visitors and the citizens wouldn’t have to move much to have fun. It would also be interesting if there is an aquarium near the beach because you can see different sea animals even though it is in the “sea”. In the same area, there would also be volleyball, basketball and tennis courts, and recreational areas so that people from all ages would be able to enjoy this area.

A corner of a mountain containing a forest is located over here, and people are free to visit and explore the area as much as they want, as long as they don’t destroy it. You are allowed to come and start a camp with your friends.

Across the street from the edge of the mountain is the Local park, where citizens or this city can freely visit, have fun and enjoy their time. To make sure no one tries to be naughty, one of the 5 mini police stations in the city are located right next to the park inside the same block.

Just to make this city extra interesting and to make it more city-like, we have added a zoo and a museum divided by a river lead straight to the undergrounds of Shaka city. What little child doesn’t want to visit a zoo full of animals? In fact anyone of any age can come and visit the animals. Another cool aspect of this city is the the museum.

Lastly, the roads in the city are built for all types of vehicles including cars, trucks, buses, bicycles, etc. The roads are separated into four, each building built around the roads. This makes it much more convenient to transport from one place to another, making the city extremely difficult to get lost in. Overall, the city provides an easily accessible way to transport, regardless of where you are in our city.

Middle school Spring concert reflection

Yesterday we, koto group had a spring performance at night. I came to school early to practice koto or during lunch time just in case. I also asked questions to my friends and they taught me the place I was stuck. I practice once a week about an hour.  I think my preparation before the koto concert was okay. I had some struggles but overall at the performance I did my best and I think I showed  the audience I practiced well.

The challenges I had in this piece was there were a lot of presses in different places. I had trouble finding the 5 line but during the practice, I got used to it. Also, I had trouble memorizing the music but guess what I memorized it the day when we had performance. To be honest, I am proud of myself.

I was nervous before the performance, but I came to practice in the morning and during lunch, therefore my emotions calmed. I had  some injury to my legs and sitting down on the ground was actually hard, but I prefer sitting on the ground more than using a stand 😛 I was able to perform nicely and I am proud of myself and my mom as well. I would give myself a 8 out of 10, because I practiced hard and the performance was better than my practice. On the other hand I had some mistake so I would give myself a 8 out of 10.

As a group synchronization and making people all one is hard. If someone is fast then others will go fast as well Its called influence. I learned that it is important to listen to other people while playing koto and looking to the person next or in front of you if you are in a right melody. Overall being middle school and being in this koto group was really fun and i enjoyed every moment with all of these people. For us, some people are leaving, some people are taking another class and this is our last performance in middle school and with 16 people. I am excited for high school next year.

Why do people view history differently and why does it matter that they do? Include at least three examples and one visual.

Why do people view history differently and why does it matter that they do?

Everyone is different, people are not the same which means people see the history differently as well. For example, People view history differently because of different perspective, nationality, culture, different childhood, environmental, different country they lived it and so on.  I will give you examples why people look differently.

One example,  people have different religions. Which relate, religion also have different beliefs for example, Christians believe in God, Holy spirit, Jesus so and so.  On the other hand,  Buddhists believe that the Buddha saw the truth about what the world is like. They believe that nothing in the world is perfect. They do not believe that the Buddha was a god. He was a human being just like them.  So, the environment you grew up living in has an impact on the way people think about history.  Another example is people might experience or was involved in a certain organisation  which is good or  bad.  By this, people can have different perspectives about the history.

I interviewed my Grandma what happen in 1945 which is Atomic Bomb in Japan. She experienced this  when she was in 1st grade. Her house and her family were safe because they lived in a countryside before they came back to Tokyo. This is my grandma’s perspective.

Hikaru Umi

three sections in Hikaru Umi where you feel that you need extra attention.
  • I need to be aware of half press and full press.
  • When I need to move 3 and 8 up or down
  • Mf, F or P

I need extra time on working on page 5 line 1 and page 7 line 4 measure 2. For page 7 line 4 measure 2 when i am really focused and if I don’t get lost and I easily do this but not 100%.

2. Write two sentences for each section, about what you need to work on and how you are practicing it.
In this music piece,  I need to work on getting the right notes for page 3 line 1 measure 4. I get mix up after I do the おしfor 5 ans then I have to do it again. Also, I need to work on page 6 line 1 measure 1 because I need to move the 3 down while I’m playing other notes. If I don’t move the notes right there the 2nd measure I need to make the 8 down, so I need to be prepare myself and my hand to move these 2 notes.  Finally, my 3rd thing I need to work on in this piece is half press and full press. I need to work on presses because it won’t sound nice if the press is not good.
I decided to circle these section really big and with colors pencil to get attention to my eye while playing. On the other hand, I will practice these when I have free time and do the same place X2 time.
3. After you have practiced, take a video of yourself playing one of the sections.

4. Upload the video, and include the comments for your three sections (about what you are  working on and how you are practicing them).

If you listen carefully, I think my press is kinda weak. sometimes my press is okay but others its to much or less. So I need to control it and while I was playing this I made a mistake about the  notes so i should look at my music really carefully and follow them. In my opinion I think this is not that bad. 😛 but still I need to work on it.

Brain Science and Learning – Reflecting on the Impacts of Science

Some people think ‘gum’ can make your brain stronger, can help stay focused for longer tasks and can improve concentration in visual memory tasks. Well, I think the myths might be true. To be honest, I think it depends on people. People are different and people’s brain are different as well. Some people learn visually, some people learn drawing or writing it and some people learn by just listening. Hows how other people brains work.   When I researched about it, most of the scientist has/have experimented it which gives evidence and tells us there’s not much myths around it.  This information ‘The hunch that spawned gum studies was that chewing gum might increase blood flow to the brain, and that may in turn spark other important effects’ people will believe it.

This knowledge about this idea come from some sites online.  One of the sites I used is, “Chew Yourself a Better Brain.” Forbes. Forbes Magazine, n.d. Web. 10 May 2015. This sites gives me 5 different evidence.  This sites said ‘Gum has been studied for its beneficial effects on memory, alertness, anxiety reduction, appetite suppression, mood and learning.’  According to significant 2011 study, reported on by Live Science, found that chewing gum before taking a test improved performance, but chewing gum throughout the test did not. The possible reason for this result is that chewing gum may warm-up the brain, something gum researchers refer to as ”mastication-induced arousal.”  In fact, chewing gum for about 20 minutes is on par with mild exercise in terms of sending more blood to the brain. Continuing to chew after the warm-up period seems to have required too much jaw-work, and burning more energy negated the benefits.   On the Other hand, Other studies, like the one highlighted in this New Scientist article, have found that some aspects of memory seem to be improved by chewing gum.

Other sites tells us (“Chewing Gum Helps You Concentrate for Longer.” Chewing Gum Helps You Concentrate for Longer. N.p., n.d. Web. 10 May 2015.) Chewing gum can help you stay focused for longer on tasks that require continuous monitoring. This is the finding of new research by Kate Morgan and colleagues from Cardiff University published in the British Journal of Psychology.“It’s been well established by previous research that chewing gum can benefit some areas of cognition.  In our study we focussed on an audio task that involved short-term memory recall to see if chewing gum would improve concentration; especially in the latter stages of the task.” The study involved 38 participants being split into two groups. Both groups completed a 30-minute audio task that involved listening to a list of numbers from 1-9 being read out in a random manner. Participants were scored on how accurately and quickly they were able to detect a sequence of odd-even-odd numbers, such as 7-2-1.  Participants also completed questionnaires on their mood both before and after the task.

It matter that this research exists because people can have a better life and easy going life. If we social and share this information to the world, teens and kids even adults don’t have to stay up long and work, or studying for tests. Good information, better life.

Infomercials The PPGP – Me and Ayano

We had been talking about persuasive speech and talked about ‘snar’ and ‘purr’ words, depending on how you want/to tell  the audience to feel about the product.‘Purr’  words are positive and words that sound pleasing.  ‘Snar’ words is a negative way to describe your advertisement. My partner Ayano, We advertised The glow pet.

What are your personal barriers that keep you from being a better public speaker?

Personally, I think I did really well because I had enough energy, confidence and some sarcasm  when I was selling the product. I had the most parts to get the audience’s attention.   I think that there were a few personal barriers that had kept me from being a better persuasive speaker for example looking at the script sometimes.  I think that one of the barriers would be my role in the infomercial. Another personal barrier is that sometimes I am a  shy person  my voice gets low and quiet.  Especially the time when I don’t want people to  know where I got wrong and misread my script.

How could you break down those barriers?

  •  Begin paying attention to the type of facial expressions you use and when you use them. You may not be aware of when you frown, roll your eyes or scowl.
  • Make sure your facial expressions are appropriate based on your topic, listeners, and objective. When you’re smiling while communicating a serious or negative message, you create a discrepancy between your facial expression and your message. The same discrepancy applies when you’re communicating a positive message without facial expressions.
  • Once you have increased your awareness of facial expressions, practice the skill of incorporating them into your message, matching the appropriate expression to each situation. You wouldn’t want to have a stone-cold look on your face when you are expressing your passion for your company’s products.

Are they real (physical) barriers or mental barriers?

I think that my barriers are both mental and physical barriers. My mental barrier would be being shy, nervous or  having stage fright because I am scared to mess up.  I think it’s a mental barrier because you think in your brain ” I will mess up and I don’t believe can do  it to myself but you can’t see it from my physical appearance. Maybe  posture towards the audience might tell us we are nervous?  My physical barrier is always using body gesture and looking around  because I’m nervous.

♢Reflection of Go away ♢

In music class, we worked on making a pop song into small groups. I was with Amane and Lisa. We all had a role and I worked on making the lyrics and the melody. Amane worked on writing the chords and a Piano person. Lisa helped me with writing the lyrics and the structure.

First of all, we all decided to come up with the chords and the theme. Our theme was a love song but it was hard so, we changed it into a heartbreak song.  Our first chords wereEfat but then after a month we changed into A minor.  Out the scale we are using A.B.C.D.E.F.G.A. Melody: I think melody was the hardest part in our group. It wasn’t easy to write one but tink our melody was catchy and kind of dark and bright at some point. Then we worked on our lyrics. I think lyrics was kind of easy then making the chords and melody. Lisa and I worked on it together and we made the lyrics depressing and we thought about the girl’s perspective.  We also used some lyrics from the ” Thinking out loud” and “I’m not the only one” by sam smith and ed Sheeran. I think the melody and the lyrics fit in well and it was dynamic as well.  These 2 songs also related to our songs which we thought we can use some and arrange it into our own words. The tone of the music changes when it comes to the main chords. Our cords was:

Make it go away

Make the pain go away

I’ll just cut my hair

Let the ashes turn grey

Finally the structure, structures are very important because the song is the way in which its sections have been arranged, usually with repetition, to create the total work.

I think our group pretty much did well on making a song. we had some problems changing the chords and the theme but after all we finished and performed really well. The impression we have as a group is Amane, Lisa and I, we all worked on our jobs and helped each other if needed. I think we had a great teamwork even though we should have 4 people in ourgroup but one person didn’t participate at all. Even if we had these problems as I said before we finished this unit really well. In my opinion, I think the melody was attractive and catchy to listen. The lyrics grabbed people’s feeling and you can tell she was really depressed and don’t know what to do. For example: “The proof is in the way, it hurts” She just needs to face the truth. “As the chapters start to close” Her love life is over now because her boyfriend cheated on her. These lyrics are actually really deep. Overall, I think it was hard making a pop song but it was fun and now we can finally work on our koto pieces.

 Hope you enjoy it XD

Learnd about the world XD

During this few month in Humanities, we started learning about globalization around the world first and then focused on Motomachi / Yokohama because that is where our school is.  For this project we explaining how globalization affects us in Yokohama. First we researched about history of Yokohama, with emphasis on The Bluff/Motomachi/Chinatown. Then, we  annotate The Bluff/Motomachi/Chinatown on Google earth. After that, the Fun part was we were separated into little groups and we went to Motomachi town for a little sketch for our final map.

I Lived in Yokohama for 4 or 5 years and I didn’t know there was a lot of deep history that is still unknown in this town. When I was in 7th grade, we also had a unit about Yokohama history but when i research it every year, I get to learn new things more and more. By doing  these types of big project, I learn that I need to be capable of making my own schedules and planning when and how I should finish each section. By doing this, I think I got mature and I think I am ready for High school big project. In this unit, I think I am proud of myself being organized and making my map clear and easy to look for the tourist. On the other hand, my grades got higher for the creative thinking and I think that, made me proud of everything.

Traveling today

In this few month, our unit was about velocity and speed. We looked at different graph and consider which part was going up or down ( the speed going fast or slow) We paired up and did a project about how long does it take from here to there at the playground ( we measured our speed of distance)  Now days there a lot of transport to travel for example car, train or plane to go to different places. Out of all of them,  when you want to travel  you have to consider how long it’s going to take you to arrive to your destination and plan out your things carefully. For example, when I travel somewhere I look at different websites and see which train I should go on because it will tell me the coast and how long does it take. I will go on the train that doesn’t coast money that much and a fast time to get to my destination.

Drama Reflection

Clip #31 from YIS Arts on Vimeo.

In these few weeks, we worked on persuading people by our speeches. My topic was about why Tokyo is the best place to visit.

I came late to class  when we had to do this, and I didn’t have enough time to prepare myself, but I think I did pretty well. Before doing the speech, I was nervous and my hands were shaking but while I was doing the speech I didn’t feel anything. I was happy and enthusiastic. The thinks I did well was using hand gestures when it is necessary and I had eye contact with people.  Also, I think I was enthusiastic and in my opinion I had a tone of voice which makes the audience not fall asleep. Next time I would improve by having more confidence in my speech and not struggling. On the other hand, I will try not to smile that much and I think I looked at the cards through the speech.  I can use persuasive speech in my life now in different classes. We can make people convince them by using the techniques we used in drama class. We can also use this in the future if we are doing a presentation or when we have a argument. You need evidence and  reasons why you answer is correct which I can also use persuasive speech to tell people why my answer is right or wrong. To write a speech first, you need to know what you will talk about and understand your topic well for example your find a subject which you are passionate about because your audience doesn’t  want to hear a speech about something that you don’t  care about.  You also want to know who your audience and target is because the language will change to more polite way.  To prepare your speech just know what you want to talk about and tell strongly what your topic is about and why it is important or why you think that etc. Practice a lot my looking in the mirror or ask people to listen your speech and they will give you give you feedback. Persuasive speech is useful because we can persuade people why our strong speech and they might actually think the same way.  To present your speech well is  important because you can’t persuade people if we don’t talk clearly or say something wrong. You might lose a job or something or the project. You could also lose audiences attention.

In conclusion, I learned how to make a effective speech structure and it was fun listening to people’s speech because everyone has different opinions and how they speak.
