My Artist Statement

In art class, we have been working on a very long project for our second unit and we are a few steps away to finishing. The project relates to a portrait painting that expresses a person, yourself or either someone else. For this unit we were told to draw an portrait painting that will show the person’s identity, culture and as well as their emotion. We also learnt about the color wheel and how the system works. With that useful knowledge from the color wheel, we were able to to express the person with all sorts of different colors. Most students in our class decided to draw our friends or our people from our family. I eventually decided to draw Ryu and introduce the main things about him.

Here is the sketch of the portrait painting I did at the very first.

Throughout this unit, I think I have improved on drawing a person’s face more realistic and commonsense. At the end, I realized that the portrait really looked like Ryu. It demonstrated his emotions on his face and the important ideas on the backround. He liked to do baseball and he was a fan of the Yokohama Baystars, so I chose to draw  him wearing the uniform and cap on his head. I also drew two flags that represent his own country; the Philipines and Japan because he is half filipino and half Japanese. The cross on his neck represented Ryu beingas a Christian as well.

Here is the portrait painting that I finshed at the end.

When I started the outline of the project I was thinking about things that described Ryu. But I remembered about the checklist we’ve done at the beginning of this unit and I looked back at how I could use colors to express Ryu’s feeling and emotions. When I started the painting I could see a couple of problems. It was hard for me to get the exact color I wanted and it didn’t blend well that together. So I dipped my brush in the water and I just spilt a tip of it to blend even better.   Also, when I finished the painting I thought about getting advice from people around me so that they can help me with my my painting and improve it more. I kept on doing this process at the end and I got of great feedbacks that actually helped my painting.

One of the strength is all the colors. The colors represent Ryu by showing him having a pssionate side (orange) and a cool side (blue) on his face. Also the backround are close to the complementary colors blue which are mainly yellow. I decided to do a complementary color of blue so that it wouldn’t be too simple and boring. The gradations on some parts were good too. For example, the cap on Ryu’s head has gradation on the lower part. This is a strength that I showed, but I could’ve still blended colors more. Another strength is the composition. My composition was very good because the painting was split in two. One side was a drawing of the baseball ground and the other was a drawing of Ryu. This made it look more interesting and made it differ from what most people do. My weakness, although, was the lack of blending colors. This unit was all about blending colors and to express the person with colors, but I didn’t blend that much. If I had I had blended more colors, it would’ve been more creative and it coould’ve caught more attention from people.

I think the painting shows Ryu’s emotions and feelings by the colors a lot. Another way I expressed Ryu was with the items on the background. I tried to include a certain type of aspect that tell part of Ryu’s life. This can maybe connect to Ryu’s dreams. Ryu said to me that he wanted to become a baseball player someday and become famous. So I decided to try to include how he felt at that time. Lastly, another way I expressed Ryu is by his facial expression. There are mixed emotions that clearly show who he is, where he’s from and what he wants to be. I enjoyed creating this painting and I had lots of fun doing it. It was challenging and I hope to do better next time I do something like it. I know there are many things that I could improve on, but I liked the colors I used and I think I did a great job. I’m proud of what have done and I think I was able to learn many kinds of teqniques and skills during this unit. This will definitely lead to my future artworks!

Tutorial Create Reflection

Hey guys, I finally finished my tutorial for techonology class. It’s about on how to draw a minion. I hope you enjoy it! And also try to share this tutorial so that more people can watch as well as learn too.

So now I will write the reflection. For the reflection I need to follow along the Visible Thinking Routine; Connect, Extend and Challenge. The connect has to relate to both tutorial and the criterias, the extend has to give something that we got from the ideas of other people’s tutorials and the challenge has to tell about what’s still challenging and need of improvement to you.

For connect, I think I most of the criterias connected a lot to my tutorial I made, altough some criterias didn’t fit perfectly. One of the criterias which connected to my tutorial is simpleness. I think I have kept my tutorial simple enough so that the viewers wouldn’t get confused with what happens in the tutorial. Another criteria I think I did well is on the step-by-step. My tutorial shows each step with clear advices and the form of my talking helps the viewers learn more about the steps. Lastly, I think I was also able to show confidence in my tutorial. I talked very specificly and in a fluent way. Confidence really pushes the viewers forward and makes them want to do the same thing.

In the tutorial I also thought that there were problems and improvements that I could make along the criterias we did. The angles and quality of my tutorial weren’t done that well at all. The angles would’ve given better ideas on each step and show a clear view. The quality too didn’t appear well. The part while I was drawing the minion was blury and didn’t show that good on the screen. These were about the two problems I had for my tuotiral.

By seeing other people’s tutorials, I think I noticed some differences between my tutorial and few improvements I could make. For me, I chosed to see Liam’s, Everest’s and Kenryo’s tutorial. These are the links for their tutorials: LiamEverestKenryo

When I watched these people’s tutorials, I think I was able to collect new and useful ideas. For Kenryo’s tutorial, for example, had lots of great ideas. He talked about his topic very formally and straight-forward. He just talked about his topic throughout the entire tutorial and he included many advices that would give the viewers a some thoughts related to his topic. Antoher tutorial that I think gave me ideas was Liam’s. His voice was easy to be heard and showed how to use all the ingrediants. These tutorials were very good and helped me come up with lots of great thoughts. I could look back at my tutorial and realize at diiferent aspects of my tutorial that needed improvement.

Something that will be my challenge when I make another tutorial next time is picture in picture and green screen. Picture in picture will show the finished product and what you’re doing at the moment. This helps the viewers learn more of what you need to be careful with and gives more interest watching the tutorial because they want to see each step very closely until everything is completed. The other one I would like to learn is green screen. Green screen can be very useful at certain times. It captures the person who is moving in front with another filmed or image backround. This can help me when I can’t film properly and I need a better qality for the backround. This is quite easy to do and will be helpful if I get to do the right thing.

In conclusion, I think I have pretty much included most of the criterias on my tutorial and I think I have connected those criterias well with the Visible Thinking Routine on this reflection. Even though if I had lots of improvements I could’ve done for next time, I still did all my best to create this tutorial and make it a good one. Overall I think I did a awesome job and I hope I can make a better tutorial than the one I did for this in the future.

It will be great if you could watch my tutorial and fill out my survey.

Thank you and see you soon!!!

Is It Probable?- Math

For this blog post, I will introduce to you about probability! Probability is very important in part of math and also in life. This might be kind of helpful although it might be different from a real teacher teaching you.

First of all, I’ll introduce 5 different chances of an event occurring.

1. Impossible: it WILL NOT happen

2. Unlikely: not likeley to happen

3. Even Chance: 50% chance of occuring

4. Likely: quite likely to occur

5. Certainly: will occur or happen

These words can really help you tell what amount or how much cahnce their is in words.

Next, I’ll give a real word example for each.

1. Impossible: It is impossible that I will run around the world in one second.

2. Unlikely: It is unlikely that a monkey will jump in my car and hit me with a banana.

3. Even Chance: It is an even chance that there will be snow falling as the weather cast said.

4. Likely: It is likely that I can hit that ball and make a homerun.

5. Certain: It is certain that I will really hungry (because I’m already hungry)

Ok finally, I’ll use a fraction, decimal and percentage to represent each different event.

1. Impossible: Fraction- 0/100 Decimal- 0.00 Percentage- 0%

2. Unlikely: Fraction- 25/100 Decimal- 0.25 Percentage- 25%

3. Even Chance: Fraction- 50/100 Decimal- 0.50 Percentage- 50%

4. Likely: Fraction- 75/100 Decimal: 0.75 Percentage: 75%

5. Certainly: Fraction- 100/100 Decimal- 1.00 Percentage- 100%

Well that’s the end for this and I hope you learned something about probability. This might’ve been a little hard to understand becuase of me, but it could be useful. Bye 😀
